America has gone insane. Executing people on the streets for suspecting them of being immigrants. The rapist-in-chief marauding around the world doing what he wants. Israel mass murder children (& adulrs) in Gaza and call anyone who protests an antisemite.Other world leaders stand by and do nothing.
The climate iw shafted. Probably heading for 1.7° or worse, probable mass migration and associated wars. Hundreds of thousands dead in Ukraine. British economy f**ked. Musk heading to Trillionairedom while billions have next to nothing. Everyone glued to their phones, social life dead, mass anxiety and depression among young people.
Im honestly sick of the world now.

Im just waiting for ww3 to start.
Or some sort of war.

There are numerous wars ongoing right now. As ever.

TheaBrandt1 · 08/01/2026 10:15

Less if anything. Deep in Roman history they kept running out of grain and were under constant threat from Barbarian attack.

There always has been and always will be wars. It's just human nature - you just have to read threads of here and you see if even women with a shared interest in motherhood find it hard to get along with out arguing.

I think it is just people are more aware now than in the past, due to 24 hour reporting.

I ignore it and stay in my bubble. No point having an opinion of the evils of the outside world if I don't have the ability to influence it - that way madness lies.

I'm not going to argue with you. What is the point you are an internet stranger?

Climate change is an existential threat unlike any humanity has faced before and trump is doing everything in his power to accelerate it, he is the worst and most dangerous individual the world has ever known and we are more deeply in the shit than ever before

DefiniteMeteor · 08/01/2026 10:25

@Thirdchildjoy yup. Love your partner and kids, eat delicious food, drink wine in the sunshine with your mates, consume as much art as possible, travel to the sea and look out at it, walk in nature, pick flowers and put them in a jug on your kitchen table. The world will still burn as it always has. Children will suffer and die as they always have. One day the burning may come to your doorstep and perhaps you’ll have to take up whatever weapon you have to hand and fight (and probably die) like countless humans have always had to do. But unless and until then I choose to acknowledge it’s all transient, not much matters really, and let the knowledge make me happy.

Fbfbfvfvv · 08/01/2026 10:27

It’s a world where any goodness or positive personality traits are seen as fake, virtue signalling etc and are usually the people who end up targeted and torn apart.

People who behave badly are seen as real and admired (in day to day life narcissistic people are always the most popular and influential hence why they succeed with their smear campaigns).

Social media is mainly used for trashing and shaming people.
People have been conditioned to hate or hate-like and to pile-on each other.

Meanwhile the crazies in charge completely screw up everything else in the world.

End of days was meant to be happening now, and I think it is. Wasn’t it meant to start with looking up to false idols - I think that sums up everyone following all of these vacuous influencers online . . . .

There are absolutely more of us than there are of them and that is important. They don't even have any friends! All of those tech bros, they are losers in the actual world. You know, the world that still exists despite their efforts to make us forget it. Our world.

What a great message for us all to take, hold and cherish.

It is our world, and there are more of us than them. Let's claim our 🌍 and own it!

Dagda · 08/01/2026 10:55

ExpectZeroContext · 08/01/2026 09:41

Yep, it's never been this bad. Oh wait I just remember that during WWII the Nazis devised and built and industrial system utilised for mercilessly gassing millions of people. Go ahead and tell to that mother who is choking to death while holding their baby in inside one of diabolical contraptions that your world is done for.
Newsflash: life has always been shit for most of the population. War and conflicts have been main drivers for the most part of human history. Humans have always lied, killed and raped.

Get off social media and give your head a wobble, sweetheart.

If the Holocaust is your bar for saying that life it is better now. You’re picking a pretty low bar.

The world order that made big wars between powerful countries unlikely for the last 80 years is crumbling. I think we had been lulled into a sense of security that everything would continue to improve and this is no longer the case.

I think people can accept that our lives now / in the west/ are not at the lowest point in history YET. But with climate change and the scale of destructive weapons this gap that will be left when this old order breaks down and there is nothing to replace it is going to threaten all of us.

i’m very surprised that some people can’t see this significant shift has happened and that is it is a threat to how we live.

But now it threatens us for the first time in 80 years. You won’t be able to stay in a bubble then.

The trouble is everyone is too addicted to those tech bros social media sites, absorbing every single bit of negativity and advertising that is sent out through them.

I think if everyone walked away from social media we could reclaim some sanity, but unfortunately the numbers sway much more in the direction of there are more social media addicts than us!

Yes, your response certainly is. Grow up..

No need to worry, we'll all die soon from the next zoonotic plague anyway, if we manage to survive antibiotic resistant bacteria, that is.

And people then did. Do you think ordinary people were enjoying the situation? They instigated an entirely new situation afterwards, based on freedom of information and consent, never stopped studying how Naziism arose, built institutions of law and even annual ritual ceremonies so that every single person in the country ‘may never forget’ and warned as loudly as they could about what would happen when the watch slept.

The watch hasn’t slept: it has been deliberately or stupidly destroyed. By technocrats, the revitalised rich from the 80s on, by men.

I fear the last chance to stop it has gone. At least we needed close ties in Europe and less American influence here, but it was more important that the well off had every convenience and shouted the rest of us down, wasn’t it.

Thirdchildjoy · 08/01/2026 12:34

No wonder the UK is the country of antidepressants if this is how everyone thinks. If you can't influence or control something - there is no point worrying about it.

CraftyBalonz · 08/01/2026 12:43

I am not happy with things, but let's be realistic, we live in the most privilege, luxurious environment we ever have, and a lifestyle that many countries can only dream of even today.

Ask people who lived during the Blitz if they were having fun.

so YANBU to refuse to accept the unacceptable but you are being ridiculous. *
*The world is absolutely done.for *what's more likely is that YOU are being confronted with the risk of a personal problem, when you could blindly ignore everyone before.

Zoom out for the birdseye view.
80 years ago we were marching people into death camps because of their ethnicity and dropping weapons of mass destruction on children.
A few decades before that we were shipping people in chains across oceans to work as slaves and throwing them overboard if water was scarce and then claiming their value back on insurance. Clearing people out of their homelands and taking their children away as government policy. Back a bit and we hang children for stealing bread. Wars, endless wars since the dawn of time. Plagues, floods, volcanoes destroying entire civilisations. A mini ice age. I could go on for years.
Human life, the life of any animal really is not meant to be peaceful stable cooperative and full of happiness. It’s always been about surviving and the pursuit of food, resources and sex.
The idea that now is “worse” than Victorian times or the Dark Ages or when the Romans invaded is pure narcissism. It’s only the worst
time of all because you’re living in it so you perceive it that way.
Humans have always laughed and fallen in love and made art and enjoyed sex and sang together and invented things and decorated our homes and we will continue to do so. The idea that Trump or Netanyahu is “worse” than Hitler or Pol Pot or Genghis Khan is ludicrous.

If it helps, every generation from Plato onwards has written that things used to be better and that the particular moment they are living in is the worse of all times and the end of the world. Every generation thinks it. It’s not been true yet. We will be fine.

I try and console myself with this but I think the big difference now is uncontrolled climate change and pollution. We are losing so many species and I feel really sad when I think about that loss of beauty. Already today, if I want to see the stars, flowers, trees, hear crickets chirping, I have to be driven to the countryside. Will my daughter have to travel to hear birds singing? Will she have fruit that tastes of something or will it all taste bland and watery? Will life expectancy stabilize/rise or will it decline due to extreme heat, microplastic pollution etc? Will she be able to have children without fertility treatment? I just don’t know.
