America has gone insane. Executing people on the streets for suspecting them of being immigrants. The rapist-in-chief marauding around the world doing what he wants. Israel mass murder children (& adulrs) in Gaza and call anyone who protests an antisemite.Other world leaders stand by and do nothing.
The climate iw shafted. Probably heading for 1.7° or worse, probable mass migration and associated wars. Hundreds of thousands dead in Ukraine. British economy f**ked. Musk heading to Trillionairedom while billions have next to nothing. Everyone glued to their phones, social life dead, mass anxiety and depression among young people.
Im honestly sick of the world now.

I’ve thought for a while why do people sit in their homes freezing because of energy costs in the pursuit of this eco madness when it’s likely war will finish us off . And actually I don’t think it would be a bad thing if the human race finished . It would just be the natural order of things .

Frumpitydoo · 08/01/2026 03:34

Chin up, old girl. It's only as depressing as you make it.

Kingscallops · 08/01/2026 03:36

Throw in a bit of antisemitism to your irrational rant. Nice.

HelenaWaiting · 08/01/2026 03:44

The world is absolutely not done for. The human race, however; it feels like we may have peaked. It would need radical and very brave action to turn it around.

I’m actually feeling a bit optimistic, if the Iranian regime falls then there will be a stabilising effect across the middle east and a reduction in terrorist funding. Russia and China will hopefully start winding their necks in with a more aggressive america. I sincerely hope Venezuela gets democratic elections and the people who have been terrorising them are held to account. I hope after an extremely scarring war the Israelis and the Palestinians are able to come to a settlement, not now but hopefully in the next few years a serious effort is made. I hope the Somalilanders get their independence and are recognised. I think the Europeans will be forced to think about their defence instead of relying on america so much.

I actually think this year may be an inflection point globally for the good.

I also think we are all in the shitter because we absolutely cannot afford to keep living the way we do. I think unless we change course and reduce public spending we are fucked.

Elseaknows · 08/01/2026 05:00

It can feel like doom and gloom all the time but look for the helpers OP. Look for the peace keepers, the people working hard for change (even small, community changes) and the people who continue to help in the face of adversity.
Humanity feels bleak and it is easy to get sucked into the vast hopelessness of it all but don't lose hope. Even in the face of tragedy you find people have a way of learning, adapting and coming together.

malificent7 · 08/01/2026 05:26

Reduce public spending? It was cut to the bone under the atories. I actyally want my taxes to go to schools, hospitals and even the safety net that is benefits.

A simple google search will show you public spending has gone up year on year. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like it, we can keep borrowing but eventually we will find that our debt becomes so expensive we can’t service it and we will get the shit kicked out of us by the financial markets.

Whats insane is the vast majority of us don’t want this. We don’t want AI, war or trillionaires. We want a secure economy, decent jobs for us and our kids, nice community and friends, nature, holidays and worthwhile work. Why can’t we all pull together so more of us can achieve this?

I know the majority of people in my life would agree with you too. On a pedestrian level and away from news feeds on social media, we are so much kinder to each other in the day to day, we can all still find joy in what’s normal or routine to most of us.

I think because some of us are parents we look for the danger because we all want our kids to be safe and thrive - all we can do is pour love into kids and lead by example. Be the kind stranger, vote with our heads (and feet), do what feels right at the time with the best intention, don't focus on the "whole world picture" if you are unable to do anything directly - you will give yourself anxiety (by all means stay informed but don't JUST consume the bad).

No, you’re being ridiculous - there’s always been shit going on in the world. And from what I’ve seen on another thread (I haven’t seen the video and don’t want to) it’s not clear that the woman shot didn’t bring it on herself. And she wasn’t shot bc she was “suspected of being an immigrant”. She apparently drove away from armed officers after being told to get out of her vehicle. Some are saying she veered towards one of them.

It’s extremely sad and awful and her children have been left without a mum, but if that’s true she made some bad choices there I’m afraid.

Also Gaza - why is this the only war ever mentioned? There are other wars going on in the world you know? There are always wars going on. For centuries.

I don’t think you should be calling somebody ridiculous while spouting views on a video you haven’t even watched, according to your own words.

Let me help you out here. If you were to watch the video you would see it’s clear she didn’t ‘bring it on herself.’ She was trying to drive away from the ICE agents and they shot her three times in the head, at the point where she had already driven past them. Also, in the video you will see her passenger seat where there are clear views of her children’s teddy bears hanging out of the glove box. That’s if you’re not looking at the blood soaked airbag that is. The fact that you think there’s an acceptable reason for them to shoot an unarmed woman three times in the face is… well… perhaps it’s best I don’t say it.

Perhaps if you didn’t want to watch the video or read balanced news sources then maybe you shouldn’t also comment on the violent death of a woman and mother today.

And here we have in a nutshell why we’re in such a mess.

“drama llama”🙄if it wasn’t so tragic it would be humorous.

Zoom out for the birdseye view.
80 years ago we were marching people into death camps because of their ethnicity and dropping weapons of mass destruction on children.
A few decades before that we were shipping people in chains across oceans to work as slaves and throwing them overboard if water was scarce and then claiming their value back on insurance. Clearing people out of their homelands and taking their children away as government policy. Back a bit and we hang children for stealing bread. Wars, endless wars since the dawn of time. Plagues, floods, volcanoes destroying entire civilisations. A mini ice age. I could go on for years.
Human life, the life of any animal really is not meant to be peaceful stable cooperative and full of happiness. It’s always been about surviving and the pursuit of food, resources and sex.
The idea that now is “worse” than Victorian times or the Dark Ages or when the Romans invaded is pure narcissism. It’s only the worst
time of all because you’re living in it so you perceive it that way.
Humans have always laughed and fallen in love and made art and enjoyed sex and sang together and invented things and decorated our homes and we will continue to do so. The idea that Trump or Netanyahu is “worse” than Hitler or Pol Pot or Genghis Khan is ludicrous.

If it helps, every generation from Plato onwards has written that things used to be better and that the particular moment they are living in is the worse of all times and the end of the world. Every generation thinks it. It’s not been true yet. We will be fine.

All of this... except the "we will be fine" bit. The planet will be fine, but humans might well be fucked! That will happen at some point in our future.

Funny isn't it, how often people single out Israel? And what a loose acquaintance with the truth the op has (Israel was not mass mudering children, there was a war on - and there is now a ceasefire. Even Hamas is not mass murdering anyone any more).

I do indeed. Who are young adults now I’m seeing how truly fucked we are is based on reality of the world out there they’re navigating rather than a plastic coated toy child focused bubble.

Saying my kids are going to fly round the world ( thus adding to the utterly treacherous state of the planet ) and have laughs so everything is ok and I’m going to stick my fingers in my ears, sing la la la whilst sneering at anybody who can see the reality is hysterical.

I think you can have more than one time when it feels like the world is going to shit. Saying it really went to shit in 1930/40s so it’s not going to shit as much as that doesn’t really help. Anyone who has kids will worry and if you don’t well you are probably the type that looked the other way when Hitler came to power. As long as you get your holiday to Benidorm then everything is ok 👍
