Reading about the man who faked being a naval officer to attend memorial events. The lengths he went to, getting a suit altered and buying medals of the internet. Was a professional teacher as well. Madness.

Then the ten people prosecuted for saying Brigitte Macron was born a man. Again, the efforts involved and they mostly appear professional people with full lives. Just mad.

Then you get the people on here pretending with fake stories or just trying to troll people. It’s just bizarre. It’s like validating you are indeed the saddest person ever.

I don’t get it. Is it the internet age? It’s like a boundary has been removed and people in freefall.

It is an offence to wear a uniform you are not entitled to, and that is why he was charged @LuckyingameHe was also wearing medals, although that does not appear to be an offence. It shows massive disrespect to those who did serve, those who lost their lives. He has been doing it for years, and he centres himself into what is meant to be a service commemorating those who have served, been injured or died. So, you might not see it as anyone being hurt, but what would be the point of holding these ceremonies if anyone could just turn up after raiding the dressing up box. Would you say the same about someone pretending to be a fake police officer?

I have skim read the link I posted about the Walter Mitty hunters. There are loads of these guys being exposed, lots of them involved in scams.

Fortunately, the Walt that I worked with is no longer working with young people.

We found out that he was giving boys advice about joining the armed forces...

the80sweregreat · 05/01/2026 21:25

Norma , that’s so funny !
Probably ex SAS gone to seed eh?

EmeraldRoulette · 05/01/2026 21:25

NormasArse · 05/01/2026 21:24

My neighbour did! She moved him in too!

I have honestly never seen anyone less likely to be in the SAS 😂.

Oh dear 😂

A couple of my exes were in the forces, so I hope I'd be able to spot an SAS liar 😂

I don't think that thread's made up.
But in answer to the OP, folk have always been mad. Nowt as queer as folk. The internet just gives new outlets for it!

It has to be made up surely 😂

MarxistMags · 05/01/2026 21:28

My friend is obsessed with Big Foot, the Yeti, Wolf Man etc etc. In fact she tells me there is a tribe of them living in the Scottish Highlands....
There are also aliens living near the Earth's Core. Sigh.

veryannoyedtbh · 05/01/2026 17:06

Not wanting to derail my own thread but I did know someone who put boiled eggs through her macaroni and cheese. Apparently it makes it delicious

You should see how Americans make lasagne - I make my husband call it American pasta pie when he makes it because it bears no resemblance to the lasagne made by people in the UK.

It’s apparently down to different immigrants from parts of Italy importing the two versions into the UK and the US.

AMatterOfInfiniteHope · 05/01/2026 16:58

Best thing I’ve read today 😂

Agreed!! I don’t think it’s fake though.

but even if it was it was lighthearted and fun - a nice change from the craziness and nastiness

the80sweregreat · 05/01/2026 21:33

As long as the yeti’s and what not stay away from me I don’t mind them having their own community.
( As I live in Essex, I need to beware human kind most of the time tbf)

EmeraldRoulette · 05/01/2026 21:34

@the80sweregreat hey I'm in Essex

If we had actual yeti, I would be delighted! 😂

@MarxistMags that's fun stuff to be obsessed about though, isn't it? Must google Wolf man...

the80sweregreat · 05/01/2026 21:35

I’ve seen footage of yeti’s on tv and such like.
Bigfoot always looks like a person dressed up , but who knows? I’m sure not all of it is fake ..

FrostyMorn · 05/01/2026 21:46

Has the lasagne thread been taken down?! (And if so, why?) I can't find it and really want to read it on the back of these comments!

LondonLass61 · 05/01/2026 21:55

I agree that there have always been fantasists. Social media and its various echo chambers are driving some more gullible people quite bonkers and I think that mainstream media and GB news are making things worse. Worked outside London recently and I’m shocked by the stuff people believe about Sadiq Khan - critical thinking needs to be taught in schools……

Someone has made up a thread about boiled potatoes with lasagne and I just can't deal with anymore internet today.

FFS It is not made up!!

Lasagna with boiled potatoes is not that shocking or interesting or odd enough to be made up. What is so weird about it, it’s truly crazy 🤷🏻‍♀️

Brainfogtothemax · 05/01/2026 21:57

BillieWiper · 05/01/2026 16:58

That was fake?! Gawd I'm not surprised. But so bizarre isn't it?!

It’s not 😩 why would it be

Brainfogtothemax · 05/01/2026 21:59

Nevermind17 · 05/01/2026 16:58

I saw that thread and thought it was obviously trying to get “you don’t put potatoes in lasagne!” responses. The mind boggles.

It wasn’t IN the lasagna, just with at the side like chips can be? Am I losing my mind that this is so outrageous, it’s bizarre

Was on a train the other day. Not many people on it. A woman got on with a big suitcase, found an empty table for 4 and put her suitcase on one of the seats. Not really the done thing, but as I said, the train was pretty empty. She then opened the suitcase and got out a tupperware box containing some smelly fish and various bits of fruit. She cut up the fish and the fruit on the table (juice everywhere) and then put the small pieces of fish and fruit into smaller tupperware pots. Then she got her laptop out, looked vaguely normal for a while as if doing some work EXCEPT she was nibbling on bits of fruit/fish from her various pots. Then she got out a big plastic wallet full of loads of crumpled bits of paper, and a flask which I assume contained tea or coffee, AND a plastic bottle of milk AND a nice mug, and proceeded to prepare her beverage. I can kind of understand not wanting to buy a cup of tea in a disposable cup, but why not add the milk to the flask beforehand and drink out of the flask lid like you're meant to? She was clearly enjoying her picnic - of which I would say she was definitely a few sandwiches short.
I've had quite a few weird train encounters in my life. There are so many bonkers but (hopefully) harmless people out there.

Oh, yuck. I hate it when people have big picnic meals on trains, but the smelly fish is something else!

I was once on an underground train and a woman next to me opened a tin of tuna and started eating it with her fingers. At that point I'd lived in the city long enough to brush it off and assume she was either nuts or deliberately doing a "bit" for a magazine or something.

The first post wasn't exactly crime of the century. But the goady follow-up posts by the OP rather gave the game away.

Anyway, sorry to derail op 😬

Has anyone ever slept with a bloke because he said he was in the SAS?

I think we need a poll.

It would be amassive turn off to me.

I’m actually crying 🤣🤣

Islavadaukrani · 05/01/2026 22:25

I lived with a walter mitty - Ukranian sea captain - the youngest EVER apparently and every single thing about the dude was FAKE AS FUCK but he believed it. Narcissistic trait central and I believe possibly a psychopath.

That said I never once saw him eat boiled potatoes with lasagna....

GameofPhones · 05/01/2026 22:30

I have the impression that most of the conspiracy nuts are also right-wingers. Maybe trying to create confusion or seeing how far they can get in collecting followers, and maybe paid by Russia? Just realised that this is my own conspiracy theory...

EmeraldRoulette · 05/01/2026 22:31

I forgot

They used to be a consultant/advisor person at one of my workplaces. He had retired from his main career, but he was always claiming to be the first man to do whatever amazing thing. This is all stuff that you can look up and he was not the first man to do any of it!

My boss said to me one day "I think we better stop using him - because the next thing he'll claim is that he was the first man" 😂😂😂

Islavadaukrani · 05/01/2026 22:33

@EmeraldRoulette instantly would have renamed him Adam. I know the type though - if you have been to Teneriffe I have been to Eleveneriffe and it was better and hotter. They do it for some internal validation.
