Sindy was far superior to Barbie

I feel sorry for girls today who don’t know the pleasure of playing with a doll whose arms and legs bent (sometimes resulting in a nasty open fracture but never mind). I loved my Sindys and the outfits and accessories were so much better and more conducive to imaginary play than the Barbie stuff I see around. Barbie outfits in particular look shite to me.

Does anyone know of a poseable doll like Sindy that comes with good accessories? I know my granddaughter would love a ballerina, or a police officer, or a doll that wore normal clothes.

i loved my Sindy doll

I loved Barbie and Sindy, and my kids also had Lottie dolls, who were great younger sisters/children.

Probably already mentioned but the Made to Move Barbie’s are very poseable, ours were all very keen horse riders 😁 (also Our Generation doll foals work very well as barbie horses)

Pippa was much smaller than Sindy. They weren't made by the same company.

Sindy had a better car, not that pink thing Barbie drove but a yellow 4 x 4 beach buggy thing. My dad made me and my sister a Sindy house with light switches that worked (and was actually a wooden bookshelf that he made a roof for and wallpapered the back of the shelves in the same wallpaper as our bedroom!) all our friends were jealous and it was only once I got older that I realised it was because our parents couldn’t afford the actual Sindy house.
it had an orange and brown bathroom suite and a brown 70s kitchen. I’d love to go back and play with it again.

I think Pippa was Sindys sister. I loved my Sindy doll. She felt more approachable than Barbie 😆 A friend had Sindy townhouse and I loved it so much.
Or maybe it was a Barbie? It had a lift, I remember that

That was Sindys house...had the lift going up the outside? Was amazing !

I must be a bit younger than the average on this thread though as Barbies were lame when I was a kid. We had Bratz dolls (they were cool - mum hated them) and MyScene dolls. I had a working plane and car for them.

Well I had a Marie doll from the Pippa doll range. Barbie was far too expensive and my sister got the Pippa. They were much smaller than Barbies it Cindies but had lots of accessories plus a Ken. Still have it somewhere.

I loved Sindy (even though her head was so much larger than Barbie), my disco dancing Sindy came with a record!!! Everybody Boogie and We’re Having a Party!!! Bangin tunes

@PineappleCoconut I always thought Barbie was the sluttier one. I'm surprised to hear this. I only ever had Sindy, never a Barbie. My mum was very old fashioned for her age. I just can't imagine her buying me the sluttier one 🙂

I wasn't allowed Barbie, only Sindy. And even then I had to buy it out of my own Xmas money. I had ballet Sindy.

My mother, vicar's wife no less, deemed Barbie to be slutty. Likely because she was American. All American things were unclassy apparently. Apart from Cagney and Lacey.

My friend had Barbies (many) plus the house/mansion, car, jeep, stables, horses, horse box and caravan. Lucky cow!

I loved my Sindy (c. 1975) but there’s no getting away from it - her head was too big.

I'm laughing because my mum also deemed Barbie inappropriate. I think that the big bust and tiny waist were deemed problematic.

ETA I had Weekender Sindy.

Team Sindy here, I always thought Barbie was a bit over the top. I mean who would point their toes permanently?!

But also, who is Paul? My Sindy’s boyfriend was called Mark. I’ve just had to look this up as I wondered if I was going mad but it turned out there were two boyfriends.

I had the Sindy house with the lift, the horse and the buggy. Hours and hours of entertainment.

My sister and I had a disagreement as adults both claiming we’d got the Sindy house for Christmas. Eventually my parents informed us we both got the same Sindy house, we are eight years apart in age so they’d stored it in the attic and wrapped it up again for me. 🤣

Sindy was far superior to Barbie
