To think loo roll is not enough

Not the nicest subject in the world -sorry!

I live abroad and bathrooms have bidees (spelling) I don’t use these, but always use wet toilet wipes which are said to be easily disposable here and not harmful to the environment
Since doing this it makes me think how normal loo roll paper is pretty gross and just can’t possibly get you properly clean 😬

Would have loved it if they had bum guns at Stansted airport when the toilets were packed and there was no toilet paper left in the cubicles - now that's grim!

I prefer to use a final wet wipe after using tp. I always think if we got poop on any other area of our body other than our bum we’d never use a dry piece of paper only to clean it off.

I’ve never put ordinary wet wipes down the lavatory but I do use the biodegradable flushable ones. People here are saying that these are not actually flushable either and still clog up the system and the environment.

So how are the manufacturers getting away with saying they can be flushed? I think it’s Andrex we’re using, but I’ll stop if they are not really flushable and go back to ordinary wipes and the bin. Someone should tackle the manufacturers for misleading advertising though.

Flushable just means they will physically flush, it doesn’t mean pipe safe. So lego is just as flushable as wipes.

Superdrug sells a tube of Aloe Vera gel for about £3. Use a dab of this on your final wipe with toilet paper. Sorted.

I stayed in a hotel in London recently that had a setting on the toilet to clean your bum - no need for a bidet! Would definitely have one fitted in the future.

Lego sounds a bit less comfortable on the old bum though!

It's a technicality. They are flushable - as in one at a time they will flush from you toilet around your u bend. Flushable technically. But they still cause blockages in the sewage system.

Doesn't mean I want someone else's shit on me first 😩🤮

I've just scrolled back ages to find this comment to thank you. It doesn't sound like it works but it does! I'm staying somewhere with quite harsh toilet paper at the moment and it's helping a lot!

i use 1-2 per day, as explained above - I've had a stroke & a lot in my life has changed, I can't do more laundry (getting my clothes washed & dried is enough of a challenge) and my medication has changed my bowel habits (no longer reliably first thing in the morning pre shower) & 'consistency' (tmi sorry) so I like to finish with a wipe, I put in in the lined bathroom bin (that only I use). For now, for me it's a small thing that makes my changed life a tiny bit easier, I am going to try the lotion on TP though as if it works for me that would get better (at hone). I did try several 'no rinse' type wash soaps but they made the paper disintegrate. haven't tried type or aloe gel yet either.

Why does it seem unhygienic?

Because other people's hygiene can leaves a lot to be desired. IF they're wiping with TP first they may have poo on their hand then use the gun trf oii to the gun.

They're then spraying poo around the toilet, potentially into the seat.

If your bum is regularly still so messy after using normal loo roll then I suggest you see a doctor. To produce such a mess all the time really isn't normal. Most people use loo every day roll and it works. The only time I've had a problem is when I've had an upset tummy, which of course isn't my normal state. OP please see a health professional ASAP.

It's actually really common for people with IBS, crohns, ibd, food intolerances, endometriosis and other hormonal issues!

No one should be flushing anything but paper. Even wipes stated as flushable cause problems and do not break down.

This is very true and rarely mentioned. Childbirth injuries can and do affect your ability to shit properly.

Exactly, these are all medical issues so the OP needs to see a health professional. Unless of course they already have but I don't get the feeling that this is part of OPs thinking and its not mentioned.
