Yep. Basically said if anyone politicial stands in the way they will also be arrested and taken to the USA
That they will run the country how they want to and will take the oil

BlueJuniper94 · 03/01/2026 18:45

I'm fond of neither Starmer or Trump but it's as crass as Trump is himself to bring their appearance into it.

Beammeupbob · 03/01/2026 18:47

@LittleBitofBread- Are you so blinded by hate for Trump that you cannot see this is a good thing for the people of Venezuela?. This has been rumbling since 2011 and finally he has been removed and will face justice for what he has inflicted upon the Venezuelans for 25yrs.

HerNeighbourTotoro · 03/01/2026 18:49

It's not like it's the first time US did it, does it really shock anyone?

Things worked fantastically for Afghanistan, oh, wait...

Regardless of how bad someone's presidency is, a foreign superpower launching such a campaing and taking over is never a good thing and the peopel of Venezuela are not a concern for the US..

sickofsixseven · 03/01/2026 18:51

Venezuelans are celebrating Maduro being removed. He was a dictator who led to his people being killed and exiled, and having their property and money seized. Hopefully they can now be an actual democratic country and the elected leader can take power

How? The US has NEVER effectively implemented regime change.

Ever.

Every single place they invade for resources is left in a worse state than before they invaded.

Trump is driven by the oil and not for the betterment of the lives of the Venezuelans.

It’s his style of threatening other countries in his way - take over Greenland, Canada become the 51st state - where next?

This is rarely, if ever, how these US or western interventions ever play out though.

How is stealing their oil and refusing to let the Nobel peace winning opposition leader take over ( because he knows she won’t do what he wants) good for Venezuela?

Trump has said Rodríguez has been sworn in, so nope, it is not happening.

Flomingho · 03/01/2026 18:58

Trump is an unhinged maniac. If anyone brings the world to WW3 It will be him, not Russia or China. He is out of control.

I mean, this all literally just happened. Maybe give it some time?

Fullfatandfortyplus · 03/01/2026 18:59

Venezuelans are celebrating all over social media so I think they are pretty happy with the dictator gone. We will have to wait and see what happens next but for now there is definitely euphoria in Venezuela and for all the Venezuelans that had escaped abroad over last few years.

Starmer sounded very nervous on the BBC earlier

Nobody has had a chance to download an opinion into his head yet. So StarmerOS 0.01 has defaulted to "Facial mode: gurning idiot"

halfpastten · 03/01/2026 19:00

Venezuelans are celebrating. The country has been through hell. This also may be good for the people of Iran who are trying to topple their own dictator, who was in cahoots with Maduro. The Democrats had put a $50 million bounty on Maduro and called him a Trump ally, so they are no doubt delighted at the arrest too. Altogether, rambling aside, Trump seems to have played a blinder. Let's hope Iran is next - women, life, freedom.

Does not give the right for a psycho greedy pig to invade and mention oil does it?

are we repeating history here, where people fell for similar excuses last time?

The Venezuelan economy is in a complete mess. Their oil industry itself is already a mess with crumbling infrastructure due to decades of malinvestment. Western control and investment from oil majors can restore output to its full potential.

America wants Mexicans out

but declared Venezuelans free - but presumably not free to come to the us?

Some bigoted Americans may want Mexicans out but not all, not even the majority by a far stretch. Most people realize America is a nation of immigrants. The majority do not support Trump. He was only elected because the whole voting system is absurd and makes no sense whatsoever.

US Government control and investment by the US oil majors.

The infrastructure is so bad, they can finally improve it now.

Did Pete Hegseth really say F around and find out ? Or did I mishear?

Vavavum · 03/01/2026 19:11

B0ldzebra · 03/01/2026 19:08

Ok🤣

The infrastructure of the Venezuelan oil industry is shockingly poor. Do you not think western control would invest in infrastructure improvements? It benefits them as they can fully utilise the oil reserves
