Are you saying that the Israeli ex PM was lying?

A politician lying? Is the Pope Catholic?

Even if Putin did say that to him, Putin is a pathological liar. He's a former KGB officer for goodness sake.

So you do think the Israeli ex PM was lying? Who doesn't lie in your book?
I will leave things there with you, if that is okay.

People keep saying he wasn't very popular there. The evidence from Venezuela so far (Maduro's son addressing a full parliament, statements by the VP acting P, statements from normal people and journalists) does not seem to suggest any happiness that this has happened, and the journalist upthread was saying that all parties including opposition (other than a tiny outlier) are outraged that the US has done this.

I agree things are a bit terrifying though.

No shit! The son of Maduro is unhappy about it? Are you for real? Well this trend have gone to the pits. Good night.

@ayearoflivingamorously Sorry but admit that you have not clue about Venezuela. You have just have become aware of it recently. You lost me when questioning if the government was legit?

Can you reply to the information I gave (about the 95 and the exit polls) - am I wrong? I don't know what you mean about "no clue" - are you Venezuelan?

US discussing "range of options" to acquire Greenland including use of military, White House says

BBC Breaking News.

If Trump does take Greenland, by any means, that's the end of NATO, which has helped reduce conflict (esp Russia v West) since WW2. Putin must be laughing.

I have no idea what the ex-Israeli PM was told. Most likely scenario is that Putin was lying through his teeth, given that Putin couldn't tell the truth if there was a social media site with that name.

Yes. He's shown his intent. Also showed his willingness to disregard any law and therefore the power he has.

Time will tell. I hope this can be solved diplomaticly but I'm not even sure this is the plan.

Nicolas Maduro”s son and the assembly are the regime. Of course they will support and defend on t v. The state tv also is only propaganda for the regime and to scare the people inside the country. They can threat any one to say what they want.

For the rude poster who told me to give it a rest. Why the Venezuelans have to suffer and be gaslighted about their own country because you here think this will start WW3?

Yes, of course you will say that. Last resort is to insult. Shame on you. You are clearly very intelligent.

If you claim something you are the one who needs to provide the evidence.

Why don't you google it? Naftali Bennet. If you are going to argue against it it is probably worth understanding what happened.

I think you are missing the point of what I said anyway. I was simply pointing out that it hadn't happened, in a lighthearted way.
UK and US intelligence have been looking after Zelensky. You are saying that Russia would not be able to get round them. I think that is the gist of what you are saying?

Neither of us have to provide evidence, I was just asking for it. If you google I think you will find that what I said was factually correct, but if you disagree let me know.

No, I'm saying that the Russians have (regardless of what Putin may claim, you seem to want to take the Russian dictator at face value) repeatedly tried to get at the Ukrainian president. Unlike Maduro, Zelensky has been on the move a lot, not staying still long enough for the Russians to work out where he is.

This is from Erik Adam’s ex NYC Mayor and a Democrat Facebook page.
“ On January 10, 2025, the Biden-Harris administration put a $25 million bounty on Nicolás Maduro for information leading to his arrest or conviction.
Public safety is not a political game.
You do not label someone a narco-dictator one year and then pretend he is no longer a threat the next simply because a different president is in office. That is cynical and irresponsible.
Maduro’s drugs have killed thousands of Americans and continue to endanger our children. Imagine being the parents of 2-year-old Nicholas Feliz Dominici, who died from fentanyl poisoning in a Bronx daycare, and watching this political theater.
America is safer today because Maduro is no longer in power.
Welcome to New York, Nicolás.”

Venezuela is not one of the World's major illegal narcotics exporter, the following are - Mexico, Colombia, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Balkans, North Korea, Russia, Latvia and Belarus.
This is not about drugs, it is about oil. Venezuela has the largest oil reserves, estimated at 300 billion barrels in 2014 and is currently owned by the state run oil company of Venezuela.

Things worked fantastically for Afghanistan, oh, wait...

Regardless of how bad someone's presidency is, a foreign superpower launching such a campaing and taking over is never a good thing and the peopel of Venezuela are not a concern for the US..

Yes, I agree. It's not like the US give a flying fuck about citizens' rights in any other country.
I'm no Maduro fan, but the US's actions, quite apart from probably being against international law, are not the kind of actions that tend to lead to a golden era in the country they muscle in to.

OonaStubbs · 07/01/2026 18:35

It doesn't need to be a "golden era". It just needs to be better than the previous era.

I was overstating for effect.
I really meant that a foreign country barging in tends to result in a shitshow. As someone said, look at Afghanistan.

Anyway, as oldtiredcyclist and others have pointed out, it's not even about a desire to make Venezuela better than the previous era; it's a land grab for oil.
