Stop telling me to watch The bloody Traitors!

Obviously not a particularly serious thread, just feeling a bit grouchy about this as it's happened a number of times just this week. I'm really not interested in watching it and people keep assuming I am, trying to discuss it with me and then acting like it's the most astonishing thing in the world that I'm not and going on to try to persuade me that I simply must watch it. What the flip is it about this programme that everyone's getting so excited about?

(Usual disclaimers apply: everyone has different viewing tastes, live and let live, yadda yadda. I'm just so bored of being told I MUST watch it! 🙄)

I'm with you OP. I have no TV licence so it's a no.

SliceofTosst · 02/01/2026 20:43

Yeah. I get you.

DarkForces · 02/01/2026 20:44

You really should give it a go @dreamiesformolly . You know you want to

NannyOgg1341 · 02/01/2026 20:45

Oh same here, the same goes for Love Island and Married at First Sight. I've even started pretending that I watched an episode but it wasn't for me, but then they just switch to "you've got to give it more of a chance". It is what it is, I'm just waiting for the trend to pass.

EmeraldRoulette · 02/01/2026 20:45

I also don't have a TV license and don't do live TV

But I don't think I'd watch this anyway. It's actually a bit too real world scary for me. I mean all the psychological tactics and everything. It's based on that werewolves game is it? I don't know - things like that and squid game - just no. I seem to have reached the stage of life where I want comforting TV. Or maybe it's just the contrast from real world stuff.

I am currently watching "mid century modern" and I can't believe it got cancelled! That is exactly the kind of TV we need. Just silly and happy.

Although I think there's a new season of Emily in Paris is there? So that will be next for me if it's out.

Actually, no one has suggested this to me.

People have told me they watched it, but they've been very apologetic about it 😂

AhBiscuits · 02/01/2026 20:47

It's just a fun, popular gameshow. If that's not your kind of thing then I can see why it might be irritating for people to keep saying you must watch.

AhBiscuits · 02/01/2026 20:48

If you've ever played the game Among Us, Traitors is exactly the same.

ChocoChocoLatte · 02/01/2026 20:49

What’s wrong with folk wanting to have a common talking point. It’s a TV sensation, ratings unseen. If you’re not interested just politely reply and jog on.

such a non issue

devildeepbluesea · 02/01/2026 20:49

I watched a bit of the last one, where Alan Carr won.

It was deeply underwhelming. Hold firm OP.

Gribouille · 02/01/2026 20:50

Tell them you watched it, then when they say 'Oh good, what did you think?' say 'AHA! I DIDN'T watch it! I am a Traitor!'

At least, this is what I understand it to be about... 😕

ComewithmeIntotheseaofLove · 02/01/2026 20:52

Omg its a massive “unconscious bias” display

I don’t know what the interest is, can’t see it myself

I hate the coffins as well - really bad taste - esp last night as they had them floating on water when on the beeb 2 was sinking of titanic

That’s me, I tell people i watch MAFS but it’s awful and I probably shouldn’t 😂

But do you insist other people should watch it simply because you do (assuming you do)? That's the irritation, not the common talking point element.

Same with MAFS. But (other than the MAFS thread on here) I'm too embarrassed to admit I watch it, let alone exhort others to do so. 😂

I'm not sure how it's managed to suck me in, which I guess might apply to The Traitors too although I sense, rightly or wrongly, that the latter has somewhat higher production values. The bar's not that high tbf. 😂

Ah yes, a program so important that it features on the BBC news front page and the TV news. Read that again and reflect on yet another thing that's gone wrong with this country.

Hotel785634 · 02/01/2026 21:17

I agree. I watched two episodes of a past season and hated it. If I want psychological games and people stabbing others in the back I only have to go to work. Why would I want that in my leisure time? But it’s one of those things that people keep asking if you’ve watched and telling you that you must if you let on that you haven’t.

Zov · 02/01/2026 21:22

It is annoying isn't it, when someone is obsessed with something, and thinks everyone else must be too, and if they're not, they are WRONG.

My DH is a bit like this with a couple of programmes he watches. He has a habit of giving me a rundown of what's going on, and I'm like Confused 'errrr I don't watch it - so I don't need to hear about it, coz I'm not interested.' He says 'well I am interested!' I'm like Confused

He just doesn't get it. Why the fuck is he blathering on about something I give zero shits about?

I sometimes get a running commentary if he has something on that I am not watching, and I am in the room (trying to read, or look at the internet.) it's so infuriating that I end up leaving the room.

He's like 🙄 Annoyed and puzzled in equal measures that I give zero shits about what he is watching!

Horrorscope · 02/01/2026 21:22

I watched and loved the first series. By the end of the second series I’d had enough because it’s just people saying the same (stupid) things, ad nauseum. I do like the challenges, though, but that’s not enough to make me watch another series.

@Zov - you are seen! This has been my - whole - fucking Christmas holiday... I am ready to chew my own ears off... 😩

And no, I NEVER do this to him! Or it would be Jane Austen versus Avatar... which will probably be out next year...

I said that on a different thread and got told to get a grip.

But really it’s not NEWS is it? It irritates me beyond belief.

SpaceRaccoon · 02/01/2026 21:52

I tried to watch the recent Celeb one to see what the fuss was about, but I was bored by it.
