Stop telling me to watch The bloody Traitors!

Obviously not a particularly serious thread, just feeling a bit grouchy about this as it's happened a number of times just this week. I'm really not interested in watching it and people keep assuming I am, trying to discuss it with me and then acting like it's the most astonishing thing in the world that I'm not and going on to try to persuade me that I simply must watch it. What the flip is it about this programme that everyone's getting so excited about?

(Usual disclaimers apply: everyone has different viewing tastes, live and let live, yadda yadda. I'm just so bored of being told I MUST watch it! 🙄)

Watched half an episode once and decided it just wasn't for me. I'm equally fed up with people telling me to watch it.

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/01/2026 21:59

I felt like that. I hate game shows. Then I watched it and I bloody love it 😂

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 02/01/2026 22:01

Good lord. I've had 'you should watch it' from a least 5 people. Unfortunately for me my son (24) asked me to watch it with him last night, so I did (we never watch anything together, so I thought i should). Luckily he's brought a friend round tonight.. and he's back to university tomorrow.

MoFadaCromulent · 02/01/2026 22:03

It's essentially deal or no deal for people who want to think they're intelligent observers of the human condition

There's fuck all actual strategy and even if they eliminate a traitor early doors they will just stick another back in to fill out the episodes.

Mildly interesting for a season and then you realize the format and there's very little reason to come back for more

Gribouille · 02/01/2026 21:37

@Zov - you are seen! This has been my - whole - fucking Christmas holiday... I am ready to chew my own ears off... 😩

And no, I NEVER do this to him! Or it would be Jane Austen versus Avatar... which will probably be out next year...

😆 Sisters in arms. Solidarity!

Fangisnotacoward · 02/01/2026 22:07

I tried, I really did. But I dont like these shows where people try to screw each other over.

NannyOgg1341 · 02/01/2026 20:45

Oh same here, the same goes for Love Island and Married at First Sight. I've even started pretending that I watched an episode but it wasn't for me, but then they just switch to "you've got to give it more of a chance". It is what it is, I'm just waiting for the trend to pass.

Love island use to be excellent. It’s dire now. I’ve never seen mafs either. Traitors is fabulous

grumpygrape · 02/01/2026 22:19

I like Traitors but being told I MUST watch Strictly, Maul the Kidwife, whatever, really frustrated me.

BashfulClam · 02/01/2026 22:22

EmeraldRoulette · 02/01/2026 20:46

Actually, no one has suggested this to me.

People have told me they watched it, but they've been very apologetic about it 😂

Never watched those either but I do love Traitors.

Namechangerage · 02/01/2026 22:27

I don’t get why you wouldn’t just try watching it before you judge it? If you like it, happy days, if you don’t then fine, don’t watch it. Is it just to be “different”? I recommended it once to my ILs - they are retired and watch about 10 hours of TV a day, I know they would like Traitors but they also refuse to watch it for some reason. Weird…

But at least you can say you tried and didn’t like it?

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 02/01/2026 22:32

These threads appear every time a new series starts, filled with people who are falling over themselves to tell us all just how cool and uninterested they are in the Traitors and competing to be the least interested "I don't watch TV", "well I don't have a TV", "well I don't even have eyes" etc.

Traitors is great. No one actually cares if you aren't watching it, it's just fun to discuss it with other people that are.

Anna1mac · 02/01/2026 22:34

I agree with you. I have no intention ever to watch the traitors or the love island or whatever else pish is on the council telly... I'd rather stab myself in the eye with a fork, the truth be told ... I quite like looking down on people who watch these programmes 😁😁😁. I'm sorry but I'm just more intelligent than the common folk 🤓🤷

"the council telly"?

Rude.

Fair question but nope, not just to be different. I don't get much time to watch TV and that's already filled by programmes I know I enjoy. I'd maybe have given it a shot if I had a bit more downtime.

Whoneedsanamesuggestion · 02/01/2026 22:36

Yanbu. I don't want to watch it either. I just can't get that excited about a reality tv game show type of thing. I do watch bake off tbf, but that's nice and calming to me. I do not want to watch something which I think is kind of trivial yet is also a little bit stressful with all the backbiting and back stabbing. I hate love island too and I did actually watch some of that as people kept telling me to. I didn't like it at all, so I am trying not to fall for Traitors! I'll read my book or blabber on mumsnet or WhatsApp instead thank you!

But... that's not what I'm doing? (The competitive disinterest, I mean.) I didn't start the thread to tell people I don't watch it, the thread is about how annoying it is when people tell you you 'must' watch something. Why would you assume from that that I was trying to seem cool? It's quite a leap...

Joke. Don't take my tongue in cheek seriously. I have many great, intelligent friends who, for some strange reason watch this shit , but they are still great people. I just don't watch much TV. I enjoy reading more.

GrannyTeapot · 02/01/2026 22:40

I thought maybe the children would like it, tried an episode and turned it off. Very dull. It reminds me of the hype around Fifty Shades, I couldn’t understand that either.

Itiswhysofew · 02/01/2026 22:42

I get ya. I don't watch any TV.

cariadlet · 02/01/2026 22:45

I'm generally not interested in Reality tv so didn't bother with the first few series of The Traitors.
Then I saw a bit of an episode of the Celebrity series when I was channel hopping and was hooked straightaway.

I've watched the first 2 episodes of the new series and am finding it very enjoyable. I wouldn't say it's something that anyone "should" watch but would encourage anyone who hasn't watched it to watch one episode. It's not for everyone but I don't think that people can give an informed opinion on something that they haven't seen.

LLJETO · 02/01/2026 22:45

I’ve watched all the series up to now and for some reason, when DH told me it started yesterday and we should watch, I felt very ‘meh’. We’ve watched both episodes and I have to admit, it bores me.

Gribouille · 02/01/2026 22:55

If you want to see the worst of the human condition, just watch the News... 😟

Calliopespa · 02/01/2026 22:57

devildeepbluesea · 02/01/2026 20:49

I watched a bit of the last one, where Alan Carr won.

It was deeply underwhelming. Hold firm OP.

Oh come on: Alan is great viewing!
