Stop telling me to watch The bloody Traitors!

Obviously not a particularly serious thread, just feeling a bit grouchy about this as it's happened a number of times just this week. I'm really not interested in watching it and people keep assuming I am, trying to discuss it with me and then acting like it's the most astonishing thing in the world that I'm not and going on to try to persuade me that I simply must watch it. What the flip is it about this programme that everyone's getting so excited about?

(Usual disclaimers apply: everyone has different viewing tastes, live and let live, yadda yadda. I'm just so bored of being told I MUST watch it! 🙄)

I’ve no interest either my mum keeps going on about it and a few other crappy programmes they watch, I don’t watch a lot of tv so certainly won’t be tuning in to anything like that. I don’t know why she keeps going on about it when I’ve said multiple times I’m not interested if you like it super but I don’t like people insisting I’ll like something when I really won’t and don’t want to watch

You MUST watch Barry….

I feel the same about Love Island and TOWIE. How anyone can think that these shows are real and not scripted is beyond me

the traitors is all right as light entertainment but the contestants take themselves way too seriously. Tears and tantrums when they know the rules and they aren’t actually being accused of murder (or murdered, as Paloma Faith seemed to forget!)

I'm another one without a TV licence, and no, I won't be buying one at any point in the near future... mainly because I've never really been into watching TV. Nor do I have Netflix at the moment, so that cancels out anything on there, too! Poor me 😁

If you love it, that's fine, and I'll listen to you waffling on about it. It's just that I'm as unlikely to watch it as you are to take up aerial silks!

Possibly controversially, I find Alan Carr "a bit much". I thought the same about Jeremy Clarkson, due to over-exposure to Top Gear, until he started up Clarkson's Farm. He was quite bearable after that!

"the council telly"?

Rude.

It's an affectionate way of describing programmes you watch under the TV licence. Some of us are old and cannot remember if we saw something on channel 4 or ITV or on one of the BBC channels. Widely used in my part of the world, and not rude at all. Disney plus, Netflix, Prime, Paramount, Apple TV and "cooncil telly". .. are all valid answers when someone asks you where you've seen a film you're raving about, for example. ...
You're welcome.

This annoys me too. Especially conversations like this:

"Did you see Traitors/Strictly/Big Brother/the Queen's funeral yesterday?"

"No, I don't have a television, I don't see anything."

The person then tries to tell me all about it, probably feeling pity that I am missing out. If I was interested and wanted to spend my time watching TV I would buy a telly and a licence. Not sure why that isn't abundantly clear 🤷

singthing · 04/01/2026 13:27

The type of show it is doesn't interest me for a start, but more than that, I cannot stand Claudia Winkleman at all. Just seeing her face gets on my nerves* so I am never going to watch anything she is in.

(*I expect she is truly distraught about my opinion)

I don't watch much reality TV, but I do love Traitors. After a hard and stressfull day at work, listening to people's problems, I like a bit of escapism. Some people watch soaps, they aren't my thing. I don't tell people what they should watch, but there is the opposite end of the scale when people get sniffy over other people's TV choices and " I don't watch that rubbish"...🙄

I agree. Some of the crap I watch, I'm in no position to judge other people's viewing choices. 😆
