Stop telling me to watch The bloody Traitors!

Obviously not a particularly serious thread, just feeling a bit grouchy about this as it's happened a number of times just this week. I'm really not interested in watching it and people keep assuming I am, trying to discuss it with me and then acting like it's the most astonishing thing in the world that I'm not and going on to try to persuade me that I simply must watch it. What the flip is it about this programme that everyone's getting so excited about?

(Usual disclaimers apply: everyone has different viewing tastes, live and let live, yadda yadda. I'm just so bored of being told I MUST watch it! 🙄)

These threads appear every time a new series starts, filled with people who are falling over themselves to tell us all just how cool and uninterested they are in the Traitors and competing to be the least interested "I don't watch TV", "well I don't have a TV", "well I don't even have eyes" etc.

Traitors is great. No one actually cares if you aren't watching it, it's just fun to discuss it with other people that are.

Really laughing at ‘I don’t even have eyes’ 🤣🤣

My neighbour manages to shoehorn into every chat the fact that she doesn’t own a tv - but she watches all the usual shit we all watch on her laptop 🤣

Kingscallops · 02/01/2026 22:58

I was talked into watching a repeat of the first series. Long drawn out crap.

Joke. Don't take my tongue in cheek seriously. I have many great, intelligent friends who, for some strange reason watch this shit , but they are still great people. I just don't watch much TV. I enjoy reading more.

A lot of people manage to read AND watch some TV.

dreamiesformolly · 02/01/2026 22:38

But... that's not what I'm doing? (The competitive disinterest, I mean.) I didn't start the thread to tell people I don't watch it, the thread is about how annoying it is when people tell you you 'must' watch something. Why would you assume from that that I was trying to seem cool? It's quite a leap...

I'm with you OP. I've been told I need to watch it and that I would love it and when I looked it up I was a bit baffled. I rarely watch TV and I don't watch this kind of TV because I... don't like it. I don't enjoy it. I'm not opposed to it existing or to other people enjoying it, just stop trying to beat me over the head with it. I didn't harass them when they didn't watch Game of Thrones!

Ukefluke · 02/01/2026 23:05

I dont get it either, and I do watch every series.
Its ok but not unique TV that they go on about .
Its a glorified guessing game and its mildly entertaining seeing all their theories based on NOTHING because there hs nothing to base them on. Its just herd think.
Mildly interesting TV of a winters evening with good scenery. But nothing great.

Sweetiedarling7 · 02/01/2026 23:06

I agree. I tried the celebrity version after much prompting by friends and found it boring and stupid.
That said I don’t like any game show type things at all hence why I had never watched the ordinary series.

Mary46 · 02/01/2026 23:06

I loved it but its not everyone's taste!!

Gribouille · 02/01/2026 23:13

'One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other'. I'm happy to leave it at that. 🙂

TheFireHorse · 02/01/2026 23:34

Oh I hear you OP!!

EVERYBODY at work was talking about the celebrity one. At every team meeting on every morning.

"Oh TheFireHorse, you MUST watch it!!"

As their manager I felt I should show some willing and watch one episode. Fuck me! Ended up watching the whole thing in a week! Loved it! Hahahaha

bumblenbean · 02/01/2026 23:53

I’m baffled by it too. Tried to watch an episode of the last series and it didn’t grab me at all. It’s weird that certain shows seem to gain a cult following despite being no more interesting than the next reality show (imo!)

I also never got on board with Bake Off, Masterchef, or I’m a celeb.

I’m certainly no TV snob mind, I’m hopelessly addicted to MAFS and sometimes Love Island...

TeenLifeMum · 02/01/2026 23:57

We tried it but it was so tedious and drawn out. I’ve decided I must be weird because everyone loves it and seems hooked. Then they are shocked when someone stabs someone in the back (following lots of dramatic pauses so long I could go and make a cup of tea only to return to nothing having happened). Why are people shocked? It’s literally the point of the game. I feel like an alien.

minuette1 · 03/01/2026 08:38

I've never watched any of these type of gameshows, I don't know how people find the time - there is so much more interesting stuff to watch on AppleTV/Disney+ etc that I wish I had time for!

But lots of people do really get into them and get excited for new series so they must strike a chord with the majority of people, so I guess OP, they assume you are also one of the sheep!

newornotnew · 03/01/2026 08:43

What the flip is it about this programme that everyone's getting so excited about? If you watched the first episode, you'd understand the show, then could decide if you want to watch it or not.

People enjoy sharing conversations about popular TV shows, it's a connection point.

X123x321X · 03/01/2026 08:45

I watched it once because it wasn't convenient to switch channel. I thought it was pointless. I felt the same with Big Brother 25 years ago.

bumphousebump · 03/01/2026 08:47

It’s pretty underwhelming to be honest, the scenery is nice. I watched the first series where they didn’t know what was happening and the participants seemed less annoying.

Freysimo · 03/01/2026 08:51

EmeraldRoulette · 02/01/2026 20:45

I also don't have a TV license and don't do live TV

But I don't think I'd watch this anyway. It's actually a bit too real world scary for me. I mean all the psychological tactics and everything. It's based on that werewolves game is it? I don't know - things like that and squid game - just no. I seem to have reached the stage of life where I want comforting TV. Or maybe it's just the contrast from real world stuff.

I am currently watching "mid century modern" and I can't believe it got cancelled! That is exactly the kind of TV we need. Just silly and happy.

Although I think there's a new season of Emily in Paris is there? So that will be next for me if it's out.

Emily in Paris/Rome is already on Netflix. My guilty pleasure, although I can't stand Mindy!

Exactly this. And most people couldn’t care less if you actually watch it, they’re just trying to make conversation or alas, be inclusive.

ilovesooty · 02/01/2026 22:35

"the council telly"?

Rude.

I find "council telly" quite funny but also dark, the same way I do "council pop" for the fresh, clean, guaranteed not full of shit water that comes out of our taps reliably, not for free, but for pennies compared to any other water.

It's all fun and games with netflix and co, until there's no truth any more, we will remember fondly that ol' cheap state broadcaster we used to have, with internal checks and balances and Reithian values.

But, as I said to a pp upthread, I'm not complaining about people sharing re TV shows. I do that myself with programmes I like. It's the whole 'What do you mean, you don't watch Traitors? How can you not watch Traitors? You must watch Traitors!' business that's irritating me. (Ditto Bake-Off, I'm a Celebrity, etc etc.)

OP posts:
WongKarWaiMe · 03/01/2026 10:15

I get you. I just don’t enjoy reality tv or any kind and there’s so much other TV out there that I would prefer that I don’t see the point even trying it, but people either act like I’m a snob (I’m not and I have many guilty pleasures) or that I’m a complete weirdo, just because I haven’t seen the bloody Traitors.

I don’t get all offended at people who’ve never watched Twin Peaks or Buffy! We’re all different and we all like different things, why is that so hard for some people to understand?

Kingscallops · 03/01/2026 12:05

The Masked Singer/Dancer is also on my list of popular garbage that I can't join in on.

usedtobeaylis · 03/01/2026 12:14

grumpygrape · 03/01/2026 09:37

I got bored with people telling me I had to watch Game of Thrones because I like Lord of the Rings... No, it is possible to enjoy one and not the other.

It would be more tolerable if people could mention what it's about if you ask, any given programme, and leave you alone otherwise. My colleagues all watch a fair bit of reality TV so when they start talking about it I am literally head down, get on with my work and disengage from the conversation, because I never watch any of the shows they mention, and they know that at this point. So why they started telling me to watch The Traitors I don't know. Talk to the other people who are watching it, no need to try to connect with me over something you know I don't watch!

For people to then make out that those who are saying they have no interest in watching are somehow making it a badge of honour is ridiculous. We would have nothing to say about it at all if you stopped bugging us about it.

MyCrushWithEyeliner · 03/01/2026 12:25

I’ve no interest in Traitors and Love Island/MAFS are my idea of TV hell.

But, I’m definitely not cool. I love to watch old episodes of Midsomer, Poirot or Marple.

Cheeseandonioncrispswithmytea · 03/01/2026 12:35

Am autistic and this program is abdolute hell for me.

I spend my life trying to read people - work out if they are being literal, sarcastic, funny or genuine… read the social cues - learn the rules of society to fit in… it’s exhausting and hard work.

here is a show designed to confuse the hell out of you as everyone is pretending to be something they are not or second guessing people who are genuine.

absolutely can’t stand it - not for me . Totally confuses me and I really dislike it.

my oh loves it

each to their own…
