To think this is silly and unfair to slim women/skinnyphobic?

I was looking at this swim dress https://snagtights.com/products/only-one-swim-dress-polka for myself. I'm a rather small woman, 45kg and 162cm tall. I usually wear a 4-8, depending on the brand.

Whereas I'm delighted to see that they make it from a 4-38, all of the several models featured in this dress and seemingly almost all on this site, are obese. This is rather odd to me, and a bit annoying as I cannot see what these items would look like on me - if some items look good on skinny women but not on obese women surely the same also applies regarding some items the other way round.

Also seems unfair to me - if underweight women cannot be models because of 'promotion of unhealthy weights' why are these women not affected as well too? Surely a size 38 is not any more healthy than a 0 or 2.

Skinny hate seems to be on the decline, but still disappointing to see the double standard.

I'm a size 6/8, and find the idea that slim women can't see how clothes would look on them unless traditional models are used amusing.
I might be slim, but I'm 56 and 5' 4". How in the world is seeing an outfit on a beautiful woman 35 years my junior, and 6 inches taller going to reflect how I'd look in those clothes?
Including a diversity of models isn't about showing individual women how they'd look. How could it be, unless you drop on to a model with your exact proportions? It's about demonstrating that women of all different sizes look good in the clothes, theyre not just for very slim women, they're for everyone.
This really seems to grind the gears of those who want to gatekeep fashion and looking good to slim women.

I’d argue that extreme obesity is as indicative of an eating disorder as being very underweight. Just a different sort of disordered eating. They still deserve nice clothes that fit. Good luck to those who get on with their clothing, I never did.

I don’t understand why it’s okay to have obese and morbidly obese models, it’s so unhealthy, to me it’s promoting over eating and unhealthy eating and no different to promoting smoking, excessive alcohol or drugs. Absolutely agree with OP.

Forgive me if this has been picked up further along as I've not read the full thread yet, but a lot of the models aren't obese, they have a disease called lipoedema, as does I believe the founder of the company.

Have a Google and you'll see the body shapes that offend you so much, mine included (although I have virtually no boobs ☹️) and belive me, it's a recognised disease not a lifestyle choice.

Have it myself and its so frustrating when other people, especially women, think its OK to comment on your diseased body like we have an option to look a different way!

Ginburee · 01/01/2026 11:52

I think OP has an issue- I am overweight and do not look at sites that cater for a size 4 because I know those clothes will not suit my body shape.
I buy at snag and have absolutely no issues with how they promote their clothes.
They are trans friendly so that is another reason for me to support them.
Why shop on a site aimed at larger people when you are a size 4.
What made you want to come to MN and start a fat shaming post?
Do you have any idea how bloody hard it is for overweight people to buy clothes that fit properly? How hitting the high street is not an option for many people -thanks YOURS clothing, you also are a lifesaver. Oh, maybe OP will drag them now too.
Go and get a coffee and give your head a wobble.

Boycott, by not spending your hard-earned with them?

BringBackCatsEyes · 01/01/2026 11:57

They say they stock all sizes ie not just aimed at larger people. They choose to use very large models on the whole.
When an item is modelled by a few different women (or men dressed as women in some cases) why not use a range of sizes? Snag has an agenda.

How can you claim to care about ‘skinny phobia’ yet agree with a post calling thin women bone thin and anorexic? Uh huh, sure.

WildLeader · 01/01/2026 12:05

skinnyphobianamechange · 01/01/2026 04:30

I used to be obese, and stuff like this definitely cemented my mindset that it was OK and a healthy state to be in.

I agree. Same for me. I was obese, hated it, hated the way I looked. Still hate seeing obese models probably as it is a reminder of how I was.

normalising unhealthy weight at either end of the spectrum is wrong. Obesity is one of the largest issues the health service faces, and it has huge implications across all kinds of situations.

healthy weight needs to be shown in marketing campaigns, it’s kind of obvious.

Skinnyphobic?

Bloody hell, op, I have seen some pathetic "I am a victim! A victim of oppression and someformofphobia!" reaching before but a person thinking that models fatter than them being used to advertise an item of clothing really takes the (low calorie) biscuit.

ArtfulPinkBird · 01/01/2026 12:15

I agree with what others have said in that snag is generally catered towards larger customers, myself being one of them! I think that, because their ethos is on the surface all about "inclusivity" they have to sell their lines across a substantial size range to meet that brand image. I don't necessarily think that means that they are that interested in selling to ladies if smaller sizes as they really do seem to be part of the fat liberation movement to me, based on the significant majority of their models being extremely overweight. That said though, their tights are amazing and are the only ones I'll buy as they actually fit me and last ages. I don't buy any of their other items as I find them overpriced for what they are.

Howmanycatsistoomany · 01/01/2026 12:19

skinnyphobianamechange · 01/01/2026 06:24

rather rude, they have some lovely basics. the brand has become far more mature nowadays if you give them a google

So you have no issue supporting a brand that only caters for prepubescent girls but you think a brand that caters for women of all sizes is being "unfair to slim women/skinnyphobic" because they don't include more photographs of different body shapes and sizes on their website? Okaay 😂

Mapletree1985 · 01/01/2026 12:34

There's no such thing as skinnyphobic. There are just some people with body issues who try to make themselves feel better by dumping on the slim and trim.

There absolutely is.
I have only ever been bullied about my weight by obese females.
at school I was changing from having PE and k had all my uniform snatched away from me while I was stood there in my underwear. A group of girls shouting 'look at her bones' 'she's so skinny you can see her bush' (you couldn't). I couldn't go and get a teacher as I had no clothes on. I was relentlessly bullied for my weight my whole life. When I was pregnant I got accused of starving my unborn child as I had a small bump. When I was going through chemo, which FWIW was the only time I was ever classed as underweight, I was called a corpse. Aside from cancer, I have only ever been healthy weights. Not underweight.

every single back handed comment came from an obese person. I am not saying obese people are the worst but it's only what I've experienced. And solely because of my weight.

it caused me to have a binge eating disorder which took me a long while to overcome. I ran away from home and attempted my life because I hated my body so much. It's taken me a fucking long time to love myself again. I will never, ever forget that feeling in that changing room at 14 ever.

i don't mean to be brash, but please don't say skinny shaming doesn't exist. Of course there's not as much as fat shaming, and fat shaming do experience it the most. But it does exist I promise you.

PaisleyPrit · 01/01/2026 12:53

@hehhehhehBOOMBOOMSame here, bodyshaming against skinny (not slim) women and girls is very real, and I resonate with your post.

Being compared to a man/transwoman/child, called bony, anorexic, nobody will want you etc. It can cause people to eat in excess and have a very unhealthy diet to gain weight, as well as body dysmorphia. IME, it was from a variety of people, not just the overweight.

I’m annoyed at this thread because it seems that op isn’t even skinny, she’s just normal weight. And she’s misusing body shaming against thin women and having a pop at overweight women having representation.

Yes I agree, and yes to the skinny shaming not slim shaming stuff too. Threads like this just end up in a bunfight and never end well I think people just do it for an argument I don't know. It almost always leads to a battle of the worst with fat and skinny shaming. In reality nobody should be shamed for their bodies. Everyone needs clothes and everyone deserves to feel comfortable buying for their body shape and type. It just hits a real nerve when people say us slim / skinny people have the better end of the stick. Yes it's the more 'sought after' body type, but the words from bullies don't taste any sweeter despite this. I'm sorry for what you went through too. It really stays with you doesn't it.

Ukefluke · 01/01/2026 13:42

I am 5ft 5 and weigh 49kg. I am skinny
And clothes in me still dont look anything like they look on the skinny models.
Because as well as being skinny they are tall, long limbed, well proportioned. Thats why they are models. Clothes look good on them.
Photos on skinny models wont give you any better an idea of what you will look like in the clothes, unless you too are built like a model as well as being skinny .

I bought a jumper off there that was supposedly equivalent to size 10. It was massive and hung down to my knees so early they don't make stuff for slim women. That was my one and only purchase oh other than tights which were ok.

Hufflemuff · 01/01/2026 14:17

Snag is basically a plus size brand. It started off as anti chub rub shorts and tights.

As a 4-8 you can shop in LITERALLY ALMOST EVERY SHOP online and in a high street.

Worlds smallest violin for you 🎻

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/01/2026 14:19

@skinnyphobianamechange - so you want to see the clothes you are considering buying on women with your body type, but cannot understand why larger women also want the same thing?

JuliesName · 01/01/2026 14:21

Hahahahahahah fuck sake.

usedtobeaylis · 01/01/2026 14:22

Fat women are ultimately their main target market, for a reason. Literally one click into 'tights' and I can see multiple slimmer models. Is it an inbuilt bias that you don't?

You can't, it's a struggle to get clothes in high street brands that are a 4 or 6. Most places start at 8 unless online.
