To think this is silly and unfair to slim women/skinnyphobic?

I was looking at this swim dress https://snagtights.com/products/only-one-swim-dress-polka for myself. I'm a rather small woman, 45kg and 162cm tall. I usually wear a 4-8, depending on the brand.

Whereas I'm delighted to see that they make it from a 4-38, all of the several models featured in this dress and seemingly almost all on this site, are obese. This is rather odd to me, and a bit annoying as I cannot see what these items would look like on me - if some items look good on skinny women but not on obese women surely the same also applies regarding some items the other way round.

Also seems unfair to me - if underweight women cannot be models because of 'promotion of unhealthy weights' why are these women not affected as well too? Surely a size 38 is not any more healthy than a 0 or 2.

Skinny hate seems to be on the decline, but still disappointing to see the double standard.

Well, live and let live, I guess. If you want to dress like a tween, then go ahead.

At least the OP has the figure for it! Shaming people for their clothing choices is a pretty shitty thing to do you know..

There are other reasons why I stopped buying Snag tights.

Wondering what they are

Wondering what they are

Much discussed on MN already if you can be arsed to do a search on NY day.@🙂
They are a site for a certain demographic. I don't fit that demographic, so I will go elsewhere.I don't think you do either.

skinnyphobianamechange · 01/01/2026 04:30

I used to be obese, and stuff like this definitely cemented my mindset that it was OK and a healthy state to be in.

I don't know if I am allowed to say that I don't believe you OP, but I don't believe you. My disbelief in what you have written above @skinnyphobianamechange is because no photos, or anything else for that matter, could have made you think "that it was OK and a healthy state to be in" You would have had to have an IQ below 40 to think that, and your IQ is clearly quite a bit higher than 40!

I shop at Better Tights instead of Snag, if you’re in the market for an alternative.

Is Snag not a thinly (pardon the pun) disguised fetish site anyway??

No.

Shitty thread, shitty responses 🤷‍♀️

CremeCarmel · 01/01/2026 07:05

I find this thread really weird. The only reason we have plus sized models is because of all the campaigning done by fat women for inclusion. You could start a similar campaign for skinny women. Except that... all the fashion houses will laugh in your face because not only do they include skinny women in their campaigns, skinny women dominate them.

If they have a fat model, I can't really see how the clothes will fit me as a size 10 (I was a size 8 up to turning 60). I just don't buy from those companies who show the item on a size 16. Why would I? If they want to sell to fat people, let them crack on. I just won't be buying the stuff online.

Nineandahalf · 01/01/2026 07:16

Another thread by the person who likes brandy Melville and subdued?
Another odd one!

Glitchymn1 · 01/01/2026 07:22

BBC article - The UK's advertising watchdog says it has banned ads using models who appear unhealthily underweight rather than overweight due to society's aspiration towards thinness.

Snag is aimed at curvier, larger women. Why are you on their website looking for clothes? It’s like looking on Simplybe- an odd choice. Dress swimsuits are cut and designed for larger women too. I suppose they’ve just picked their target market and that’s it. Plenty of other retailers target thinner women/models. If they sell your size and you want one order it, then you’ll see what it looks like on.

Most models are very tall too, are you outraged by short people?

DecafSoyaLatteExtraShotPlease · 01/01/2026 04:16

As an obese woman, this is literally the reverse case for virtually every item of clothing I've ever bought online. Even plus size retailers rarely use larger sized models.

You're a size 4-8 and choosing to browse a retailer who is best known for catering for the obese market. You could literally shop at any online or high Street retailer. Let us have our obese models and true body representation this one time!

did you not understand the OP’s post?

Tinkerbellthefairy · 01/01/2026 07:28

Why don’t you feel so angry about them using tall models @skinnyphobianamechange given that you’re so short.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 01/01/2026 07:29

Oh boo hoo. For once in your life you’re seeing clothing on a body that isn’t like yours and it’s difficult? The average UK woman is a size 16 and yet nearly every item of clothing is shown on a size 8 model. This is what so many of us have to deal with all the damn time.

Tikicharlie · 01/01/2026 07:34

Most retailers don’t carry such an inclusive range of sizes. Most retailers use “plus size” models who are a size 14 with a relatively flat stomach. A lot of retailers don’t even think plus size women like to be stylish, they’re not offered the “normal” range, they must stick to cold-shoulder t-shirts and tacky t-shirts emblazoned with twee quotes.
Seeing as us thin folk generally have no trouble finding nice fitting stylish clothes, I’ll let Snag off for this.

TomeletteswithGreggs · 01/01/2026 07:35

I actually think the bigger issue is that there are very few midsize models everywhere. Either they are size 8 or 20.
I would love more 12-14.

CremeCarmel · 01/01/2026 07:37

For me the problem is that there are so few bald models.

EdinaTheConfessor · 01/01/2026 07:40

I call bullshit mainly because no one in their right mind would feel this strongly about that swimsuit. Especially if you have a body shape that means you can pick from literally any other swimsuit on the market.
It’s hideous OP.

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 01/01/2026 07:43

skinnyphobianamechange · 01/01/2026 04:22

However underweight body representation is banned? isn't this a bit silly

Did you grow up in the 90s when "heroin chic" was everywhere, and women who were a size 10 were "the fat one" in girl bands?

Advertising underweight as the norm or desirable is harmful to our young girls/women in a way the plus size isn't. Both are physically unhealthy but only one causes mental anguish and triggers EDs in a severe way.

YesSirICanNameChange · 01/01/2026 07:49

Pumpkinmagic · 01/01/2026 06:26

I don’t understand why it’s okay to have obese and morbidly obese models, it’s so unhealthy, to me it’s promoting over eating and unhealthy eating and no different to promoting smoking, excessive alcohol or drugs. Absolutely agree with OP.

Because obese and morbidly obese people wear clothes and need clothes that fit?

Or should we be parading around in giant sacks that say "REGISTERED FATTY" until we lose enough weight to earn people clothes?

I'm sorry OP but this is a bit like a man getting angry because he's seen some promotion for international women's day and wants to know why there isn't an international mens day

Exactly.

Plenty of stores cater for the smaller build.

Brandy melville only has one size!

It absolutely isn’t, and I take exception to you comparing attitudes to weight with the centuries-long subjugation of women.

I don’t think that’s true.
