To think my house looks empty and boring now that the decs are down and I have a sudden urge to buy a lot of house stuff?

Decs only came down today so it's my first time sitting in my living room with it back in it's default state.

It suddenly looks so bland and boring 😭 I know I'll get used to it again but it's making me want to go online and buy loads of crap for my living room.

Anyone else feel like this when the decs come down?

Every year!

Jamfirstest · 31/12/2025 23:01

Need to see a pic..

newornotnew · 31/12/2025 23:02

Resist! Stay strong and you'll be used to the norm again in a fortnight.

BootMaker · 31/12/2025 23:02

That will serve you right for taking your decorations down on New Year's Eve!

JustWantsSomeSleep · 31/12/2025 23:04

Yeah every time but I think it’s natural

Summergarden · 31/12/2025 23:13

Yes I know! I have ordered a garland for the fireplace I must admit, with green leaves and white roses!

maddiemookins16mum · 31/12/2025 23:16

Tesco had the £1 daffs on Saturday. I’m getting some as soon as I’m in there next.

BeforeSigourneyWeaverTheyWoveTheirOwnSigourneys · 31/12/2025 23:19

My living room is fairly obnoxious anyway, so I have all of the shit I put away in November sitting out again and it doesn't feel empty at all.

Buy the things 🤣

catontheironingboard · 31/12/2025 23:20

I love keeping the decorations up until epiphany precisely because when they do come down I’m really ready for it. If I take them down too early I miss the Christmassy vibes!

LibertyLily · 31/12/2025 23:21

Never. We leave our decs up till Twelfth Night and have never considered taking them down earlier. If anything I look forward to reclaiming the space as we have loads of other interesting (imo, anyway!) things to look at, that the tree etc detracts from.

I might have to get some daffs though @maddiemookins16mum!

Gliblet · 31/12/2025 23:22

Every year, but because I know I'll be like this I don't add anything to the sitting room in the last few months of the year. I might see things I like or have ideas about things I think might work but I either buy stuff (if I see it on sale) and then put it away, or I don't buy anything until after Christmas. Then when it's time to take the decorations down I have something nice to look forward to seeing. It's usually smallish things like a new throw, or cushion covers, or a small string of fairy lights for a bookcase. Oh, or a new orchid before I got the hang of keeping the poor things alive 😆

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 31/12/2025 23:22

I don't have loads of decorations but remove them gradually to avoid the shock of none at all.

RampantIvy · 31/12/2025 23:22

Why didn't you keep them up for longer?

My living room looks dark and cluttered. I will be glad to get the decorations down to make the room look tidy and lighter.

Brefugee · 31/12/2025 23:22

when you put your decorations up, make sure to put away most of the things you normally have out in the room. That way when you take your decorations down, and put all the things back, it doesn't feel as empty. Just different.

OhDear111 · 31/12/2025 23:22

12th night. Always keep house decorated until then!

Cat1504 · 31/12/2025 23:24

I am enjoying the clear space…..took my decs down first thing this morning then blitzed the room ….feels like home again ( feels like I’m in Disneyland with decs up)

blibblibs · 31/12/2025 23:31

I ended up buying a 5ft fake olive tree last Jan to replace the dining room Xmas tree 🤦
I rehomed all my house plants to the bathroom in Nov to make room for Xmas decs and now I don't want to move them so I'll have lots of empty spaces to fill next week.
It's the same every year, especially since it's only our third Xmas in this house so still building the collection of accessories.

174ghxt · 31/12/2025 23:43

Yes, so we keep twinkly lights round fireplace all winter!

LavenderSweetPea · 31/12/2025 23:43

Complete opposite. I do love Christmas and the decorations BUT I find them kind of over simulating and they take up a lot of room. I really like the feeling of calm and space when they go away.

Ella31 · 01/01/2026 01:23

I'm prob the odd one out here but I love how spacious and tidy it looks when they come down. Dont get me wrong, I also love the decorations but there's something lovely about the clean fresh look afterwards 🤣🤣😅

Liftedmeup · 01/01/2026 01:26

Well, why did you take them down so early? We’re only halfway through Christmas time. Baffling!

Moonlightdust · 01/01/2026 01:31

The older I get the sadder I feel taking my Christmas decorations down. The tree with its twinkling lights makes me feel so happy and I feel my decorations are the best they’ve ever looked this year. My house looks and feels so cosy and comforting.. I don’t want it to be stark for gloomy January 😩

Openmouthinsertfood · 01/01/2026 01:31

Yes! I've been spending online on new decorations, my room looks so bland as it is! Doesn't look as homely now the Christmas decorations are down. Luckily I didn't but I was even coontemplating one of those giant bows for my mantle pice last night! 😂

BogRollBOGOF · 01/01/2026 01:37

This is why I save it to the end of Christmas. Plus there'll be an extra 10-15 mins of light in the evening.

I have a flowery garland with LED lights that's more spring like that adds a non-Christmassy glow to fill the void which helps.

Perrylobster · 01/01/2026 01:41

Why are you taking them down so early?
