How do I tell my husband to wax his back?

ConfusedCarly · 30/12/2025 18:29

This is my first post on here so can someone help me tell
my husband to wax his back. My daughter always says on holiday he is like a tree and it’s very embarrassing.
Should I be concerned how much hair is on his back.
HELP ME!!!

You don’t. Up to him whether he removes it or not.

You can express a preference, like he could about your body hair. But it’s up to him whether he chooses to indulge your preference.

I’d also be having strong words with my daughter about the inappropriateness of commenting negatively on someone else’s body.

SomethingRattling · 30/12/2025 18:55

If the hair on his back bothers you, you could say 'Darling, I noticed on the beach that some men are waxing or maybe shaving their backs these days. I rather like that smooth look. Any chance you'd give it a go?
And if he says no, you don't mention it again! Your daughter will survive being seen with a hairy parent.

Notmymarmosets · 30/12/2025 18:56

Wtf? Tell your daughter to butt out. And that if you ever hear her body shaming again you'll be giving her a few home truths about her own appearance.

Katemax82 · 30/12/2025 18:56

Christ you can't make a man wax his back! My husband was such a wuss when we were first together he asked me to do his as I was at college doing beauty therapy. After I ripped off the first strip he screamed and leapt up from the sofa and not a single hair has been removed from him since (apart from with a shaver)

Redburnett · 30/12/2025 18:56

Maybe offer to pay for laser treatment to remove it permanently

You can ask him if he would consider it. You cannot tell him

okay thanks

Job done 😉

You open your mouth and say ‘ I think you should wax your back! ‘ Easy.

And of course you shouldn’t be concerned, it’s just hair!

Runningismyhappyplace50 · 30/12/2025 22:41

Since you have known him, has he always had a hairy back?

You can bring it up and suggest he wax it but it’s his choice. Does it bother him? If he hasn’t ever mentioned it I probably wouldn’t bring it up.

Branster · 30/12/2025 22:43

I cannot imagine in a million years telling the husband to wax his back.

Presumably it doesn't bother you personally OP because he would have had a hairy back since before you got married.

What's it got to do with your DD? Is she 5 years old or something? Teach her about body diversity and autonomy. If she is a teenager or older she should be ashamed of herself.

For what it's worth I prefer a non hairy male body, with minimal natural hair. But that's my own personal preference and I wouldn't go out with a hairy guy and later ask him to wax for my benefit.

grumpygrape · 30/12/2025 22:45

Does she pay for the holidays? Just asking

25flyby · 30/12/2025 22:46

You don’t.
Theres loads of cool successful people famous because they have skin that looks odd, irregular features, fat arses, facial hair, non conformity etc.
It’s in your head not his back. If you don’t like it you should tell him but accept that it could change your relationship going forward.

Perrylobster · 30/12/2025 22:48

It might be getting hairier as he gets older. As a compromise you could as him to clipper it.
I’m assuming that you also maintain the hair on your body - which he benefits from and probably wouldn’t like if you went au naturel.

pinkpony88 · 30/12/2025 23:08

You don’t get to police other people’s body hair. You should make sure your daughter knows that too.

Ha, I just had a post deleted for suggesting OP has her own body hair policed.

Erm if one of my daughters said this they would be firmly told every human is different and if they don't like it then don't come on holiday

GreywackeJ · 30/12/2025 23:41

To me, it’s as unusual as a woman sporting hairy legs or armpits. You lot are very tolerant. I’d be utterly repulsed by a hairy back.

My husband has but a smattering of hair on his shoulders at the back and he gets me to wax it off. It’s quite unusual nowadays for men to sport the hair nature intended - grooming to a certain degree is completely normal for both sexes.

I wonder if OP's daughter is a teen and at the age where they are embarrassed to be seen out with their parents, let alone her dad having the audacity to have his own body hair.

Thank you so much this is one of my few nice comments
Everyone seems to be hating on me and my daughter
Your lucky you do that my sister does that for her husband and he chooses to have it done as she told him I just don’t know about how to tell him or ask him without sounding rude

Has this hair just appeared ?
or was it there when you were first dating ?

Why is it unusual for a woman to have hairy armpits/legs? Where did this come from? Maybe the people who sell razors.

Your sister does it for her husband as he chooses to have it done. You are asking for ways to make your DH "choose" to have it done.
Is he critical of your body hair?

hattie43 · 30/12/2025 18:37

Give him a back massage ….. using hair removal cream

🤣🤣🤣

PollyBell · 31/12/2025 00:00

So a man telling a woman to do something with her body would be perfectly acceptable?
