I know it's unpopular but I LOVE the feeling of January. Everything just feels clean and big again. The year spreading ahead. Anyone else love it like me?

I haven't in past years, but I am really feeling it this year! Trying to be more positive and start again-ish!

StressyMcStressFace · 30/12/2025 12:02

Me! 🙋‍♀️ Mainly the fact that its as far away from Christmas as it can be but also you can notice the days getting gradually longer and spring and summer are on the way 😄☀️

WillowIvy · 30/12/2025 12:03

Me! The nights are getting slowly longer and my spring bulbs are starting to peep through with the promise of more light ahead. I use January to plan, I plan my garden, holidays etc.

babylamb4 · 30/12/2025 12:04

I do too. It feels like a clean slate. But as I’ve reached my forties and with every year that passes, January makes me a little wary of what’s to come and who’s going to still be here come this time next year.

KarriTreeSullivan · 30/12/2025 12:05

Yes! I love January, I agree, it feels like a clean fresh start, and as long as it doesn't rain all month it's often nice and crispy cold. Plus there is no pressure to do anything all month, and the days are getting longer again, new life starts springing up, the sun seems a bit brighter. Love it. I also really like the sound of the word - January.

CoastalGrey · 30/12/2025 12:06

I do! I used to absolutely hate it then I realised I was wasting 1/12 of every year I’ve got left wishing it away. Now I make the effort to enjoy the calm, the lack of pressure to do stuff and the little signs that Spring is on the way.

Going back to work after Xmas can still get in the bin though 🤣

fizzyroselemonade · 30/12/2025 12:08

Yes me! Love the feeling of a new year and fresh start with spring on the horizon

Pricelessadvice · 30/12/2025 12:10

I think I hate January, but then every year I get in it and actually quite like it. I’m not even sure why, but maybe coz by week 2, you definitely notice the days drawing out a bit more.
I try to embrace it now 😃

EmmaStone · 30/12/2025 12:11

Yes, it’s quite a busy work month for me, the days are starting to get longer, everyone is happy to focus on eating well and exercising, less going out. My worst months are October and November.

Tarkan · 30/12/2025 12:12

We have two family birthdays (DH and DD) in the first half of January so it’s like an extension of the holiday celebrations for us.

Miranda65 · 30/12/2025 12:22

I wouldn't say I love it, as I'm not keen on the cold, but it is a vast, vast improvement on December!
Most importantly, the days are slowly starting to lengthen and we see the first signs of that in January, with a bit more light.
Christmas is over - thank God!
It's time to start planning fun things and holidays for the rest of the year.
And it has the first tennis grand slam of the year, so great fun hunkering down in front of the TV to enjoy the sunshine from Down Under!

mamaduckbone · 30/12/2025 12:25

I'm trying to embrace that POV because I mostly hate winter, but do like the idea of it being a fresh start and time for planning. We've also got some nice things planned in January which makes a difference - in the past I hated it because I was always so broke after Christmas, but thankfully that's not so much the case these days.

Astra53 · 30/12/2025 12:27

Yes! It's a great catch up on chores month and for making plans for the year.

AndSoitComesAroundAgain · 30/12/2025 12:30

Me, but only for the first time this year. I have all decs down, and house cleaned and fresh. Honestly, it is fantastic to have the extra space again. I am however disappointed in a 3kg weight gain over the winter. I feel I have to go careful for New year's eve and day now. I'll be at the gym new year, like feeling fit and less slovenly.

wannanamechange · 30/12/2025 12:48

Yes! November and December are so hard for me with the dark days, the rain, the Christmas lights and Christmas music, the chaos, the intensity, the socialising. I love it when the days start getting that tiny bit longer, and there are bright, frostier days, not just the grey days of December. The birds are louder too. I start thinking about the new year and new potential, possible holidays and spring on its way. I love January.

TheToteBagLady · 30/12/2025 12:52

I love to see snowdrops and lighter evenings.

WareColkar · 30/12/2025 13:20

Love it. Also love the song by Pilot

Lottapianos · 30/12/2025 13:29

Absolutely love it too. I love it for its own sake, not just because we're edging towards Spring or whatever. Christmas is over (thank heavens!) - that's the big one! Everything feels new and fresh and clean. Big focus on health for me. No pressure to do anything, but nice quiet pubs and restaurants if you do want to go out. Curry, soup, casserole, stew, crumble - all the good stuff. It's bliss. And it's worth saying again, Christmas is over!

Some people make up their minds that the weather will be shit and it will all be misery but the weather can be fabulous - today is cold and blazing sunshine in the South East 🌞 January gets a bad rap and I always stick up for it!

TheaBrandt1 · 30/12/2025 13:31

Agree I like January for the reasons described. Don’t like Feb and March though those are the worst months

DratThatCat · 30/12/2025 14:01

I've found my people! I love January for all the reasons above, but mainly because the decs are down, the house feels clean and spacious again, and everything is more relaxed compared to December. It's one of my favourite months.

TheMousePipes · 30/12/2025 14:05

I love January. I keep some decorations and fairy lights up until Imbolc/Candlemas and embrace the quieter days. The light starts to return and the shoots start to grow. The tranquil part of the cycle is one of my favourites these days.

SusanChurchouse · 30/12/2025 14:12

Sort of. I hate going back to work in the dark mornings but I like the second half of January when I’m back into a routine and the days start getting noticeably longer. Also love that Christmas has been and gone! My DD’s birthday is at the end of January too so that’s something to keep us occupied. I do prefer February though. I like that it’s short. It’s also my wedding anniversary and usually a week off work in the middle with no pressure to do anything.

Alpacajigsaw · 30/12/2025 14:12

I always think I’ll hate it as I love the lights and decorations of Christmas. But it’s never usually that bad. I’ve got quite a lot of
things in the diary this year which helps.

BauhausOfEliott · 30/12/2025 14:24

See, I would like January if people treated it like what it is, which is a long, cold, dark month in the depths of winter, meant for candles, dark nights, twinkling lights and indulgent food.

What I hate is the ‘new year, new start, fresh slate, let’s all look forwards and be healthy and productive’ thing when people start reminding me that spring is around the corner and the days are getting longer etc. I love it when it’s dark by 5pm and hate it when the clocks go forward, so just let me bloody enjoy a dark, spooky, cosy, lazy winter, please. Christmas isn’t the end of that season! It’s a midwinter festival, not winter’s last hurrah before spring.

Same. I don’t like all the new year, new you either. I just hunker down too. Lots of cosy knitting time and some catch-ups with friends so I don’t get cabin fever.
