Peri peri menopausal.

AIBU to think this is a great joke? My partner came up with it this morning and isn't as proud of it as I think he should be.

YANBU - it's hilarious
YABU - it's only worthy of a cheap Christmas cracker

It’s cute he tells you jokes. My DH does too. It’s a ok joke, but the quality of the joke matters less than the fact he tries to make you laugh.

BatchCookBabe · 30/12/2025 14:24

Good for you for being so 'impressed.' Other posters are allowed to find it unfunny and nonsensical. Nothing to do with saving face. The 'joke' was shite.

'Is peri menopause called that because it's made of pears?'

As I said, it's something a 4 year old would ask.

.

Edited

How many four years know what Perry is? I’m not sure what sort of four years you know, but I’ve known a lot and none of them have ever made a pun based on lesser known alcoholic drinks.

Your comment that it’s makes no sense as the menopause is not made of pears shows it’s you who does not understand how jokes work. If the menopause was made of pears, then there would be no joke.

Face it, you just haven’t understood the joke.

What do you call a middle aged white man in Nandos?

CEO

Now THAT is funny!

FastFood · 30/12/2025 16:28

I like it. I struggle to see what's misogynistic here.

travailtotravel · 30/12/2025 16:29

Haha ...

catpigeon · 30/12/2025 16:38

I posted that it was ageist crap. I don't know why that's been deleted.

AhBiscuits · 30/12/2025 16:39

Everyone was constantly telling me that I should give up my hobby of pretending to be a flamingo. I had to put my foot down.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 30/12/2025 16:45

For those who are claiming sexisim and misogyny, bear in mind this type of joke is usually referred to as a 'dad joke' which is both sexist and ageist yet men seem to cope with this.

How is it ageist though? Perimenopause is a thing. It usually happens in middle age. Not exclusively but it's rare to be earlier.

You think a play on words, based on the association of ‘peri peri’ with Nando’s and ‘peri’ with “perimenopausal women”, displays or promotes prejudice/discrimination against older adults?

Can you explain why, or how?

Crabapplepiechart · 30/12/2025 11:48

Deary me, I didn't think acknowledging basic female biology would get him accused of being a misogynist AND an ageist!

First day on Mumsnet is it? 😂

BatchCookBabe · 30/12/2025 14:17

It is a little bit... As a pp said, no-one ever makes 'jokes' about men getting middle aged spread, having no (or little) sex drive, and having mood swings....etc...

It's largely women who are the butt of this type of 'joke. As I said, I'm not offended or bothered by it, but I think others have a right to be, without being told to 'get a grip.'

No one ever makes jokes about men? Are you sure about that?

This wasn’t even a joke about women. It’s like people consider menopause a dirty word.

Anotherdayanothernight · 30/12/2025 17:25

It’s funny, I’m perimenopausal but would never be seen in Nando’s anyway

That's because there is absolutely nothing misogynistic about it.

RosesAndHellebores · 30/12/2025 17:51

Probably Carol, Debbie or Fiona. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Iamsaved1995 · 30/12/2025 17:57

I thought it was funny 🤷‍♀️🤣 my OH agrees

How can people get their knickers in such a twist over small things like this?

ZeldaFighter · 30/12/2025 21:57

Well, my husband is delighted that several random anonymous women on the Internet liked his joke 😀 we also both laughed at the lady who doesn't know any 4yos making puns based on lesser known alcoholic drinks - I'm sure plenty of parts of the UK has them!

The lady who said he wasn't funny made him cry though 😞

XenoBitch · 30/12/2025 21:59

My gran fell asleep in a restaurant the other day. It was ok, as it was a Nandos.
