Peri peri menopausal.

AIBU to think this is a great joke? My partner came up with it this morning and isn't as proud of it as I think he should be.

YANBU - it's hilarious
YABU - it's only worthy of a cheap Christmas cracker

You are overthinking. It's just the words.

Does it have to be said in a particular way to make it funny?

UneAnneeSansLumiere · 30/12/2025 14:37

TrumpDerangementSyndrome · 30/12/2025 11:47

Cringing inside out for you OP. Ageist sexist unfunny claptrap.

Oh lighten up. It isnt the funniest thing I've ever heard, but it's not as bad as all that.

Is everyone just overthinking? I don't understand why anyone is looking for a deeper meaning than literally peri having two different meanings. And indeed perry which I also though was quite funny.

It's not insulting, offensive, or anything else. Both the peri and perry jokes are quite funny as a play on words. Not hysterically funny but not rude either.

UneAnneeSansLumiere · 30/12/2025 14:39

TittyGajillions · 30/12/2025 13:32

Not funny.
Not offensive.
People do understand that offended and not amused are two different things, don't they?

I agree, although I would say it was mildly amusing. Not 'hilarious' but also not completely unfunny.

Deary me, I didn't think acknowledging basic female biology would get him accused of being a misogynist AND an ageist!

I don't think he's ageist and misogynist, I just think he's terminally unfunny. To be fair, he seems to realise it.

Much of comedy is in the delivery, but the only way you could make this joke funny is to replace it with something else.

I say I say I say, my dog has no nose...

Some of the replies on here go a long way to explaining why Tattle has a Mumsnet thread.

Lol indeed.

MsGinaLinetti · 30/12/2025 14:43

Menopausal woman here who found it funny- not hilarious- but I'm a
tough crowd.

Does it have to be said in a particular way to make it funny?

I think that would help.

e.g. son goes to get the Peri peri sauce while we're waiting to be served and say the pun as he places the sauce on the table. It would be pretty funny if we'd maybe been talking about perimenopause earlier.
Out of the blue it would get a groan and a smile.

Presented as a stand-alone joke while going about our day....maybe it would get a sarcastic 'Ha ha'.

Poodlelove · 30/12/2025 14:45

That's me and I love it , cheered me up , thank you.

What do you call a middle aged white man in Nandos?

CEO

HAH!

Dgll · 30/12/2025 14:48

CasperGutman · 30/12/2025 14:28

I've seen plenty of comedians, both male and female, joking about the symptoms of aging in men.

I haven't seen any jokes about Nando's in particular, but topics that spring to mind include expanding waistlines, balding, sprouting nose and ear hair, impotence, prostate issues. All much more potentially offensive than the joke in the OP, which merely relies on the existence of peri-menopause and the fact that those affected tend to be female and middle aged.

It's a bit of a crappy joke, more liable to induce groaning than laughter. Definitely of the Christmas cracker level, but not truly offensive to my mind.

Edited

I was just pointing out why people could find it a bit misogynistic. I was thinking more about men telling jokes in general rather than professional comedians.

Oh, right. Fair enough then!

chaptersandchatter · 30/12/2025 14:49

I think it’s funny! And I’m perimenopausal. Some people on here have no sense of humour at all. The joke isn’t at the expense of women. It’s a play on words.

Pistolpunk · 30/12/2025 14:50

I'm in the peri menopause and found it funny as I joke about it even though it's an absolute bastard to deal with.

Outside9 · 30/12/2025 14:53

I actually think that's pretty good and I consider myself very critical

Deadringer · 30/12/2025 14:54

Not funny at all. Humour is subjective but even as a play on words it doesn't really work.

FunMustard · 30/12/2025 14:57

Definitely a cracker joke, but just so you know, I love cracker jokes Grin

DeftGoldHedgehog · 30/12/2025 15:15

Very good. Better than most cracker jokes, certainly.

KrystalStubbs · 30/12/2025 15:20

Bebetterbetty · 30/12/2025 14:02

I absolutely love Christmas cracker jokes.

But this didn’t make me laugh. I’m not sure where the joke is. It’s not a play on words. Sorry, just didn’t make me laugh.

It is a play on words. Peri (menopause) and peri peri (Nando's sauce/seasoning)

Notmyreality · 30/12/2025 15:24

BadgernTheGarden · 30/12/2025 14:35

Does it have to be said in a particular way to make it funny?

No, you just need a modicum of intelligence to understand it.

TrumpDerangementSyndrome · 30/12/2025 15:24

I am not remotely 'offended' by this ...errrr.. 'joke'.

I am offended at the crimes against humour. Not just the OP but the one about the perry/peri/pears. That's so bad it would even get rejected for a Christmas cracker and that's being kind to it.
Making insanely bad jokes at the expense of a condition that affects every single woman sooner or later is just fucking stupid and shows a paucity of intelligence that should embarrass the authors.

LoudSnoringDog · 30/12/2025 15:24

I found that funny

Beezz · 30/12/2025 15:25

I knew this would become MN bun fight
