Peri peri menopausal.

AIBU to think this is a great joke? My partner came up with it this morning and isn't as proud of it as I think he should be.

YANBU - it's hilarious
YABU - it's only worthy of a cheap Christmas cracker

God, some of you are grumpy. It’s a play on words! Lighten up a bit! Life is more fun when you can laugh at yourself

SharpBrickMaker · 30/12/2025 12:43

Was told this joke over Xmas.
Santa came in and said to you and your two sisters.
Ho Ho Ho
Yeah I laughed but I'm a cool girl after all 🤣

Yeah let’s all applaud a man making fun of a woman.

I thought we’d moved on from that sort of ‘joke’.

The worst crime though, is it’s not remotely funny.

I don't believe the joke was made by a man who was making fun of women, I think it was made by a man who came up with a silly little pun, that is mildly amusing at best (ie at the same level as my jokes).

Your sentence 3 is bang on.

youalright · 30/12/2025 12:44

Not offensive but not particularly funny its just your average cracker level joke

How is it making fun of anyone? It's just a mildly amusing play on the word peri and the peri peri spice. It's completely innocuous. It's mildly funny, not hilarious but not even vaguely offensive.

ArseSkinForAFriend · 30/12/2025 11:48

According to Google is a joke by British comedian Gary Delaney.

Yes, I came here to say this.
Sorry @Crabapplepiechart your partner stole this joke!

Itsmetheflamingo · 30/12/2025 12:47

I love you Op. not even for the joke but the fact you made it up told it and still have a strong glee at how hilarious you are. Massive fist bump as I am also the funniest person I have never met.

other people just don’t get us. Have your flowers 💐💐💐💐

Notmyreality · 30/12/2025 11:56

Yep. Sorry OP but you DH didn’t come up with it. There’s several variations on this. Gary Delaneys versions is:

What do you call the area in a Nando’s between the front and back door?

The Peri-peri-neum!

Now that’s clever.

Edited

But not as clever as Pea and Ham soup oot o' a chicken.

TrumpDerangementSyndrome · 30/12/2025 11:47

Cringing inside out for you OP. Ageist sexist unfunny claptrap.

Oh have a day off from being terminally offended 😂

RosesAndHellebores · 30/12/2025 12:51

I’d say just daft as there are better places to go.

It’s neither funny nor offensive except to the professionally offended.

CustardySergeant · 30/12/2025 12:52

Splendidlydidy · 30/12/2025 12:36

It’s not funny at all and quite disgusting.

What's disgusting about it?

HauntedBungalow · 30/12/2025 12:59

You've obviously been gaslit OP. Try this instead:

What do you call a middle aged man in Nando's?
A compliant perpetrator of misogynistic oppression and gatekeeper of toxic patriarchal hegemony.

ArseSkinForAFriend · 30/12/2025 11:48

No, his was 'what do you call the area between the front and back doors of Nando's'.

The periperineum.

Coralinescat · 30/12/2025 13:13

I have laughed a lot recently but that didn't even raise a smile.

Sarah2891 · 30/12/2025 13:13

Well, I laughed.

"The joke is a well-known one-liner, notably performed by the British comedian Gary Delaney."

Well take it up with Google if you think it's wrong 🤷‍♂️

I know it's wrong.

What did you put into Google?

notacooldad · 30/12/2025 13:18

A light joke was told im the pub on Saturday by my female friend was 'What's the difference between a middle-aged man and a fine wine? The wine gets better with age!' Both men and woman laughed and groaned at it. No one said it was disgusting, ageist, exist, got outraged, started telling friend she didnt create that joke ( no need ,she is not a comedian claiming original material, that joke is as old as Noah and his ark).

We all told a joke each, some were really funny others just cringe but no one was upset.

The joke op said would have fitted in. Its not offensive, its just corny.

ilovepixie · 30/12/2025 13:18

Jesus people get a life. It’s only a bit of fun!

MinnieCauldwell · 30/12/2025 13:19

It's mildly amusing and not in the least bit sexist. After all, women today never seen to stop wanging on about being peri and meno

WalkDontWalk · 30/12/2025 13:21

CustardySergeant · 30/12/2025 12:52

What's disgusting about it?

Fair question, @Splendidlydidy .

Is the very mention of menopause disgusting? It's not even about menopause - it's a pun on the prefix 'peri'.

Are women allowed to make jokes that really are about menopause? Many do. Are they disgusting?

AllTheChaos · 30/12/2025 13:22

Mildly amusing but not my kind of humour. My humour is far more, hmm, mordant shall we say! A friend telling me about an incident that involved having to disinter their dead pet for an insurance company made me howl with laughter though!

HelpMeGetThrough · 30/12/2025 13:24

Tell him not to give up the day job.

wobblers · 30/12/2025 13:26

It's better than the old school jokes where if you said you were having a hot flush men would snigger. Some sort of association with being horny..

I dunno we've all (women) have been laughed at a lot for many things that we can't control..perhaps the original comedian guy should do some men jokes too (maybe he is).

xmaspartyregrets · 30/12/2025 13:26

The joke was funny 🤣
i can see why a lot of you are single or have husbands that stray.
