I am genuinely interested having been weighing up my options and going round in frustrating circles.
I would like to know how many people feel fulfilled by and enjoy their work and if you do, what work do you do?

I love mine, work in hospitality. First place I've loved working since I left retail in 2016. I've been up and down mentally for the last couple of years, and this year has been the first year in a while I've actually looked forward to the festivities and been at work. It's been manic, but worth every minute.

WhatDidYouMakeOfThat · 29/12/2025 21:20

I’m a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. Fell into it 25 years ago and never regretted it. Great work life balance, flexible, rewarding…..but I’ve come out of the NHS.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 29/12/2025 21:21

I love my job most of the time! I feel much more fulfilled working on farms than I did when I was teaching. I loved the children, but it was the adults around them who made the job hard work!

I like working with animals. Despite seeing and dealing with hundreds of them every day, they are nowhere near as exhausting to deal with than the same amount of people on a daily basis. It's good to look back over the days, and the animals, and see that you've done a good job, and always tried your best. I also love the spring and summer days when my dog comes to work with me, because it makes me feel like a proud parent to watch her having grown from a tiny pup to a confident working sheepdog.

I love my job too - working with SEN children
Isn't it lovely to have a happy, positive thread for a change !! Thanks OP

Boxingshibes · 29/12/2025 21:22

I do. I'm an IT trainer, I deliver courses for companies and the public. Its a private company but I have somewhat autonomy on which courses I deliver and how I do it. I also write some courses.
After working for 20 years in IT it's amazing. I also get to travel usually to industrial estates but some cool cities in Europe and USA.
Used to be a TEFL teacher travelling the world it was amazing but crap money.
Now I'm on good money ( not MN good money but £70 ish)

SpanThatWorld · 29/12/2025 21:31

I'm a rehabilitationist for a cochlear implant team.

The job itself is interesting and satisfying plus our team is lovely.

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 29/12/2025 21:34

I used to love my job. Like wpuod have still done it even if I won the lottery loved it. Was a midwife on labour ward. Then I switched roles to a community based role that fit around the kids better, I don’t hate it but I’m perimenopausal, knackered and I take it home with me now. I feel like I’m losing the love for my job to be honest. It’s sad, I used to feel so lucky to adore what I did.

I adore my job. I’m a primary teacher and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. It is stressful at times and I spend far too many hours working but I LOVE it.

I worked as a childminder for 25 Years and while I loved the children & enjoyed the work, the last 5 or so years were hard as I’m getting older.
i gave it up & started a new job in May of this year. I work for a local paper & absolutely love my job. The people I work with are amazing. Every single one of them (there’s about 25 of us), the job itself it’s brilliant. I’m on reception & do some sales. My immediate team leader is the nicest most obliging person ever & all my bosses are great.
the owner of the paper is the loveliest man & all he wants is his staff to be happy & content in their jobs & does what he can to do help that.

May I ask how old you were when you finished childminding? I am a cm of 16 years and wondering how long I can last....

YourZippyLion · 29/12/2025 21:41

I do! I work in young persons mental health, specifically eating disorders supporting them to remain out of hospital. I love that I am able to offer help and support very swiftly. It can be a really tough journey but I get to work the whole family for an extended period of time.

i retrained as a mental health nurse in my late 30’s

AquaShark · 29/12/2025 21:41

whyexactlythough · 29/12/2025 21:54

I'm an ASN teacher and absolutely love my job

The kids and staff are great and we have so much fun

ECT22 · 29/12/2025 21:55

I love my job. Secondary teacher. It’s also a nightmare 😆 but I adore it.

PeachBlossom1234 · 29/12/2025 21:55

I do! Also a charity worker and I’ve been in the sector for around 16 years and worked at some awful places but my current charity, not a cause I particularly support or feel affiliated with, is wonderful. I have a great manager, my work is fulfilling and enjoyable, and it fits around family life. I also get paid incredibly well.

SparklyGreenTiger · 29/12/2025 21:57

I do, I’m a company secretary in-house in financial services. It’s not exciting or as rewarding as some of the posters here but I’m good at what I do, that’s recognised and acknowledged. I have a great working relationship with my manager and his manager as well as many other colleagues. I suspect I wouldn’t love it as much if I didn’t have the working relationships that I do have. I’ve been through a LOT personally in the five years I’ve been in this company and the care and support I’ve received has been incredible. I feel very lucky and privileged.

walkingaroundsostrenegrene · 29/12/2025 22:00

I love my job too - I work in a Preschool with 2 to 5 year olds. Hard work, but no two days are the same!

Kneenightmare · 29/12/2025 22:02

I’m so encouraged after reading a previous thread that there are some teachers who still enjoy their job. DD is applying for teaching courses and wants to work with primary age. Interesting that it’s doing something meaningful to help others that is the key for a lot of you who enjoy work. My job is good on paper, can work from home with flexibility for family life, like my manager and reasonable pay and benefits and broadly plays to my strengths- writing/ analysis / policy advice. I would give it up in a heartbeat though if I didn’t need to work and holidays make me dread going back.

Potteryclass1 · 29/12/2025 22:04

I did until it became toxic.
head of department for a start-up building tech infrastructure ( think data centres / energy). Started from almost nothing to building UK-wide.
lots to learn and develop in the job. No time for training or qualifications (although promised) so all learning was self-led out of necessity.
i built a team and enjoyed using my 20 years of experience in developing them, watching them get promoted and take-on new projects…
then the guy who could never quite accept his boss was female started causing problems. His cultural background is one where men are in charge (regardless of skill) and nepotism is quite normal.

He wasn’t getting noticed like others in my team because his work style was very old-fashioned. He didn’t trust any automated formulas (even simple ones I explained to him in excel) or apps built by our data guy. His colleagues didn’t like him as he was rude. He started talking behind people’s backs, monitoring people working from home, etc and things quickly became toxic.

its incredible how one bitter person can create such problems with politics and be the cause of people dreading to come to work.

MandScookiesrule · 29/12/2025 22:11

I do! NHS dentist for 20 years and still love going to work. I’ve never moved practice, so known my patients for years and love seeing them.

Adviceseeker35 · 29/12/2025 22:16

Secondary School librarian. My day is never boring. I'm surrounded by books. I can be creative and home in the holidays for my son. It definitely has its challenging moments but on the whole I love it.

Yuja · 29/12/2025 22:17

I do! I work in Learning & Development for a large, corporate professional services firm. The work is fun, I get quite a lot of autonomy, hybrid with an amazing office but quite a lot of time at home and lovely colleagues. Can’t complain really.
