How many of you love your job

I am genuinely interested having been weighing up my options and going round in frustrating circles.
I would like to know how many people feel fulfilled by and enjoy their work and if you do, what work do you do?

OP posts:
TidyCyan · 29/12/2025 14:31

I do. Accounts manager and reception for a local paper. But I can't say I'd recommend it as a career choice because it doesn't pay well and there are probably about 3 of us left!

hangry · 29/12/2025 14:31

i do. programmer. just really like writing code. it's like solving crossoword puzzles for a living.

MuseumAssistant · 29/12/2025 14:33

Museum assistant and I absolutely love it to bits.

I get to work in a beautiful listed building, handle and look after old interesting objects and indulge my love of local history. I love my colleagues too!

If I still feel the same way in 10 years, I certainly won't be retiring.

And it's within walking distance to my house.

UnimaginableWindBird · 29/12/2025 14:44

I work in an admin role for a cathedral. My colleagues are lovely, and there is a real sense of vocation and that we are carrying on a job that he has been done here for centuries, and the building itself is stunning. There's always something interesting going on, and I feel that my job helps make the world a little bit better.

RampantIvy · 29/12/2025 14:46

I do.
Website content.
I like my boss and everyone I work with.

TeenLifeMum · 29/12/2025 14:47

I did, less so now. What I’ve learned is that it’s not actually about the job but the management. Mine is poor so my enjoyment and output lower than when I had a manager who encouraged me and made me feel excited to be in my position.

mikado1 · 29/12/2025 14:51

I do. Primary teacher 20 years +. I've never minded going back to school in September/January/on a Monday! Hug job satisfaction.

Svolvaer · 29/12/2025 14:54

Retired school Secretary here and regretting it. Lovely small village school, great staff, great kids. I was there 15 years and only retired because we had a new head who, though a nice man, was a bloody useless head and went through the school like a dose of salts and changed everything. Couldn’t stand it so I retired. He left a year later and we got a new head who is amazing and doing such good things for the school. If only I’d known I only had to stick it out for a year!

ALunchbox · 29/12/2025 14:55

I work in HE. Used to enjoy it but there have been so drastic cuts and workload has really increased. I still enjoy it but it's a little too full on at times now...

LettiSpaghetti · 29/12/2025 15:05

I do - I’m an apprentice secondary school teacher

GAJLY · 29/12/2025 15:08

Interpreting. Love it

Highlandgal · 29/12/2025 15:09

Me. I took early retirement and volunteer for a charity two days per week and love it.

vanillalattes · 29/12/2025 15:09

Me! I run my own dog-walking business.

Sux2buthen · 29/12/2025 15:10

Love. I’m a TA so paid pennies, I also have a second job in wraparound.
The TA role is extremely complicated but I love that it makes a difference

I worked as a childminder for 25 Years and while I loved the children & enjoyed the work, the last 5 or so years were hard as I’m getting older.
i gave it up & started a new job in May of this year. I work for a local paper & absolutely love my job. The people I work with are amazing. Every single one of them (there’s about 25 of us), the job itself it’s brilliant. I’m on reception & do some sales. My immediate team leader is the nicest most obliging person ever & all my bosses are great.
the owner of the paper is the loveliest man & all he wants is his staff to be happy & content in their jobs & does what he can to do help that.

Wow that sounds very very different from my experience of newspapers, how lovely. Usually I was just abused when I was a journalist.

Jugendstiel · 29/12/2025 15:30

I love my job. It is two closely connected/overlapping jobs. One is as a PT uni lecturer and the other is in a related research field as a private consultant WFH. The pay is reasonable. I love my students and colleagues and boss at uni. I enjoy the consultacy work immensely - working with clients from all over the world - sometimes with meetings at 6am or midnight which suits my ADHD routine-hating disposition. But most of it is WFH which gets very lonely and very sedentary, so much as I adore the work, I am trying to get more teaching work to get me out in the world a bit more.

Tigerstone88 · 29/12/2025 15:35

I love my job. I’m a mental health occupational therapist and I work for a community mental health team. No minute is the same and people let you into their lives during their lowest moments, which is genuinely a privilege. I work with adults of working age so 18-65 which means I work with a huge range of people.

As an aside, I went back to work today after Christmas leave and even though I love my job, I really wouldn’t have minded staying cosy at home for one more day.

CatkinToadflax · 29/12/2025 15:36

I work for a very small children’s charity. The whole team is lovely. I have a disabled young adult child and need a lot of flexibility - and I get it. I’ve been there 10 years and am very lucky to work in such a lovely environment.

HomericEpithet · 29/12/2025 15:37

I work with adults with moderate to severe learning disabilities. I love enriching their daily lives, because disability inclusion is something I've always felt very deeply about. It's a vocational albeit poorly paid choice for me, but one drawback is that the pay means few of my colleagues are there for the same reason. That bit is soul-destroying.

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 29/12/2025 15:39

I love my job for the most part. I’m admin in a primary school and like that most of the time I switch off and am done when the day is finished. Won’t ever go back to full time9-5 office work, I like the school holidays and it works for my family

yoyoynot · 29/12/2025 15:47

Almost love it (would love it more if I did not have to work at all). Distance lecturer in subjects I love. Work from home, get the chance to be creative, fantastic students. Compared to other jobs that I have done, this is bliss!

Lincslady53 · 29/12/2025 15:47

DH and I ran a high street art and framing business for 30 years, and can honestly say I never had a single day where I dreaded going in to work. It was interesting, had good customers, our staff were very supportive. It was good.

Squirrelchops1 · 29/12/2025 15:48

Yes I do. I inspect care homes, domiciliary care agencies and the like. Being part of improving standards and conditions for vulnerable people is really important to me. Also as it's civil service, the pay and conditions are good.

TrappedPotatoes · 29/12/2025 16:03

Me! I’m a school business manager. I love the variety, but the hours are very long and it can be stressful. I have great colleagues, and the pupils are (mostly) wonderful, so I’m happy.

DungareesTrombonesDinos · 29/12/2025 16:09

I love my job! Im a CBT practitioner and love it.
