To think that Kier Starmer shouldn't be welcoming extremists into Britain?

Twiglets1 · 27/12/2025 20:14

Reported in The Telegraph today that Sir Keir Starmer has welcomed an alleged Islamist extremist, who labelled British people “dogs and monkeys” and called for Zionists to be killed, into the UK.

The Prime Minister said he was “delighted” that Alaa Abd el-Fattah had arrived from Egypt on Friday evening after a travel ban imposed by Cairo was lifted following lobbying by ministers.

Mr Abd el-Fattah, an activist with dual British-Egyptian citizenship, previously said that it was heroic to kill Zionists “including civilians”. He urged Londoners to burn Downing Street, told his supporters to kill police and said he hated white people.

Ministers are facing calls to revoke his British citizenship, which he was granted in 2021 while imprisoned in Egypt, where campaigners described him as a “prisoner of conscience”.

Sir Keir’s tweet yesterday said how “delighted” he was that Alaa Abd El-Fattah is back in this country. Does that seem a reasonable stance to take for someone who has claimed at the same time to be committed to "eradicating antisemitism in the UK"?

Incredible how much political capital has been spent to get one man here and with those views.

Which is why I'd like to know why? Who were the politicians trying to win over? For Starmer and his barmy army to make all these performative announcements welcoming the horrible bastard, they must have been playing to someone. Who?

Who was Truss, Johnson, Sunak IDS.. all playing too?

Its all a bit weird... we've two motorcyclists imprisoned in Iran and not a squeak out of the current Govt, wont even deny the accusation there are spies.

This man is here because the Tories gave him citizenship, with no checks whatsoever.

Look over there wont wash, they caused this mess, no-one else.

Very true. Apparently they felt that legally it was required due to the ECHR. That makes me lean towards leaving it, if it cannot be reformed quickly.

It is one thing to give him citizenship with regret, another to crow about it.

In regards to the national interests in this case, the Tories were weak and ineffective, while Labour appears to have an altogether different idea about what the national interest is.

The Telegraph is as big a steaming pile of crap as the Daily Mail these days. The saving grace is that it is behind a paywall so most people don't get to see their abject nonsense.

Look up who owns these newspapers and have a think on why this stuff is written.

Starmer and co won’t do well from this even if some find that hard

Repeating variants of this line doesn't wash, I am afraid and it is a little nonsensical in this context. I don't find it hard that this will impact Labour's standing or polling or whatever. I don't actually care. To me that is a side issue.

What I do care about and find hard is the fact that so many people, politicians and institutions over the years ignored blatant anti-semitism and Holocaust denial. It is sickening.

And continue to ignore it even after the Manchester terrorist attack. However, MI5 seem to be doing their job after the successful prosecution last week thus avoiding a massive attack against the Jewish population, again in Manchester.
I do wonder if MI5 knew about el-Fattah and told the Home Office in both Tory and Labour governments, but were brushed aside.
As for Holocaust denial isn't it about time there was a law here, as in other countries, making it illegal?

His citizenship was granted in 2021 under the last government. Where were The Telegraph's objections then?

They did indeed cause this mess but the current government has compounded it. If Starmer hadn't tweeted his effusive welcome most people wouldn't have known, nor (worse) wouldn't have cared.

Well, they would blame someone else wouldn't they?

The ECHR never stopped them refusing citizenship to others or removing it from some... if they are blaming this, they are lying.

We set the law on granting citizenship, the UK, no one else plus if the Cons gave it reluctantly, why then still campaign for his release?

Oldandgreyer · 29/12/2025 09:13

Now it's clearer that British Citizenship seems to be given readily to some awful people, then can we look at that.

How many other bad people have been just handed British Citizenship on a plate? And can we undo any of this?

I'm no legal expert but I'd have thought that if they could revoke Shamima Begum's, they could revoke his?

They probably could but it would be controversial. Having said that, even Shamima's Begums was controversial because of her young age and the possibility that she was groomed.

We are already hearing snippets of what his defence would be ... the tweets were made a long time ago... he was an angry young man at the time and no longer holds those views ... they were taken out of context.

Not sure how some comments could be taken out of context - hating white people for example. But it's clear he would put up a spirited defence if faced with deportation and let's face it ... his family seem to have money & influence. Even trying to deport him would cause more damage to Labour (so would allowing him to stay).

We went out of our way to give him a passport while he was in prison. He has no connection to britain other than that his mother was born in the UK. Thats it. There calls in Egypt to strip him of citizenship so he’ll permanently be the UK’s problem. Our leaders and our civil service are actually cognitively challenged.

Fucking appalling tbh.

How do you know what they’re saying about both parties on this if you don’t read it?

If you’re relying on the BBC they were happy this week to ignore the tweets and regurgitate a gov press release. If you only had that you wouldn’t see the tweets. They were still glowing about Olivia Coleman, Judi Dench and Labour’s delight.

@DeftGoldHedgehog knows it's true. It's being reported in the Guardian and BBC too if they prefer that source.

It's just diversion to attack the source when it's a story no one is denying.

Idk how it would pan out given the ECHR and previous rulings. We don’t have full control due to that.

There’s also something about not making someone stateless which wouldn’t be the case here at least.

Careful with that one, Kemi Badenoch is UK citizen because her mother flew here, gave birth on the NHS, then flew back with baby to Nigeria, where they lived for a further 16 years.

I imagine the Egyptian authorities are laughing as they begin the process of stripping him of his citizenship.

Perhaps constituents who voted in certain politicians who fought the last election on one issue only, that was thousands of miles away. All governments seem to care about are votes that will keep them in power.

Alexandra2001 · 29/12/2025 09:20

Its a UN rule on not making someone stateless, nothing to do with the ECHR, which the UK can ignore, as many European countries do regularly.

But the UK stripped Begum of citizenship, neither UN ECHR or UK law stopped them.

The point is about allowing foreign nationals who do not share British values and sometimes even actively hate them, to become British. Obviously we have plenty of our own bad apples to contend with but it's a disingenuous deflection to say that because some British people are bad, we should let in more bad people from elsewhere.

Well Britain did the same to other countries as "foreign nationals".

Yes, all of them too, although the effusive welcoming was clearly performative so probably more of an intention to impress someone than the idiots who started the process. But yes. All of them. Who are they trying to win over?

EasternStandard · 29/12/2025 09:23

Well we’ll see what Starmer does given most probably want the citizenship revoked.
