To think that Kier Starmer shouldn't be welcoming extremists into Britain?

Twiglets1 · 27/12/2025 20:14

Reported in The Telegraph today that Sir Keir Starmer has welcomed an alleged Islamist extremist, who labelled British people “dogs and monkeys” and called for Zionists to be killed, into the UK.

The Prime Minister said he was “delighted” that Alaa Abd el-Fattah had arrived from Egypt on Friday evening after a travel ban imposed by Cairo was lifted following lobbying by ministers.

Mr Abd el-Fattah, an activist with dual British-Egyptian citizenship, previously said that it was heroic to kill Zionists “including civilians”. He urged Londoners to burn Downing Street, told his supporters to kill police and said he hated white people.

Ministers are facing calls to revoke his British citizenship, which he was granted in 2021 while imprisoned in Egypt, where campaigners described him as a “prisoner of conscience”.

Sir Keir’s tweet yesterday said how “delighted” he was that Alaa Abd El-Fattah is back in this country. Does that seem a reasonable stance to take for someone who has claimed at the same time to be committed to "eradicating antisemitism in the UK"?

Apparently he was part of a diplomatic exchange, which is why Boris et al were involved, but the Egyptians did not play ball.

I think it seems entirely reasonable to revoke awarded citizenship if past wrongdoings which were not revealed come to light.

Is this country duty bound to accept any - not just unpleasant individual - enemy of the state ? He called for the killing of people fgs!

I thought Kemi Badenoch was born in a private hospital in Wimbledon.

Back then it was a mixed hospital, Private and NHS referrals, staff of course trained by the tax payer....... and very cynical to come here just to get citizenship isn't it?

Point here is we give citizenship based on birth, parentage etc etc perhaps this needs looking at again.

The Telegraph is as big a steaming pile of crap as the Daily Mail these days. The saving grace is that it is behind a paywall so most people don't get to see their abject nonsense.

Look up who owns these newspapers and have a think on why this stuff is written.

The Guardian OTOH is a beacon of truth and fairness, I suppose? Just another 'steaming pile of crap' as the Socialist Worker. I
I'm no supporter of any of these rags aka purveyor of news. Nowadays it's impossible to read any newspaper and get facts not slanted reports.

I've only come to this thread recently so haven't seen all the points people have made. The accusation was around Starmer welcoming people into the UK when it seems this man's release was campaigned for for a number of years by this and previous government. Including him being given UK citizenship while Jenrick was in the cabinet.

Several things can be true at once. The man's views are reprehensible and his release certainly shouldn't have been welcomed; the situation is being used cynically by some who previously were involved in a government that gave him UK citizenship as a stick to beat Starmer with; there's a high degree of worrying incompetence behind the scenes if the tweets weren't known about when Starmer announced the man's arrival. (It seems inconceivable that Starmer would have been so welcoming had he known about the anti-semtic tweets).

Including him being given UK citizenship while Jenrick was in the cabinet

I checked - Robert Jenrick was not in the cabinet in December 2021 - he was a backbench MP.

At this point, you have to wonder if Starmer would welcome Osama bin Laden to the UK if he were still alive

If the Tories had given him a UK passport he might not be welcome but could not be excluded.

This guy was still excluded with a passport. It took further actions by Starmer to get him in.

I have never quite known a time like it, when a percentage of the population are ao deep into their suicidal empathy that they're happy for someone like this to be welcomed to the UK. He shouldn't step foot in this country. He hates us

NotDavidTennant · 29/12/2025 09:32

Now he's on British soil it will be difficult to get rid of him.

Even if they find grounds to strip his citizenship there's nothing to stop him from claiming asylum here.

Robert Jenrick pulling no punches:

We are fools welcoming a man who describes us as dogs and monkeys. Fools that also have many useful idiots in the UK who are willing to march alongside banging drums and chanting for our own demise

According to Sky News Badenoch's parents paid;

'... was born in the private St Teresa's Hospital in Wimbledon in January 1980 after her parents travelled to Britain and paid for private healthcare.'

Careful with that one, Kemi Badenoch is UK citizen because her mother flew here, gave birth on the NHS, then flew back with baby to Nigeria, where they lived for a further 16 years.

But Kemi hasn't proclaimed hatred for white people etc ...
BTW I agree with many of your posts but the constant statements that imply the Conservatives were more to blame than the current Labour government are getting tiring now! Both are to blame. And a public enquiry should happen.
The immediate issue is to get rid of this appalling antiSemite from Britain before he can do any damage here. The Egyptians jailed him as recently as 2019 for five years before releasing him in September.

Labour or any other Govt don't prosecute people... Connelly pleaded guilty, taking down the tweet is like a robber returning stolen goods.. too little too late.

It'll be up to the Police to look into his tweets and act accordingly.

Holocaust Denial has no specific offence but there are other means to prosecute under and it should be considered.

Aside, i thought the sentences handed down were correct, had the Police not acted quickly, the riots could have spread.

However, Labour seem to like the sport of Own Goals Football.

I don't think that it's possible to prosecute someone in the UK for posts made on Twitter fifteen years ago when they were not in the UK, not a UK resident & not even a UK citizen.

Kemi Badenoch isn’t threatening jews, police officer, the prime ministers residence. Someone translated arabic tweets where he encouraged people to attack the wives and children of police officers. He truly is scum we didn’t need. We had no obligation to take him whatsoever. We actually volunteered for this shitshow.

There was a good character test thats been removed. We need it back. Your point was stupid. My DD was born abroad, there were a bunch of requirements to be fulfilled. Happily for her both of us are British, I have cousins that are British by descent, they cannot pass their citizenship onto their own children. This guy had literally no connection to the Uk other than that his mother was born here. We had no obligation.

But he was in Government when Rishi Sunak gave a speech to Parliament on his progress in getting him released and Jenrick was minister for immigration too during this time.,

Actually, Kemi Badenoch spent part of her childhood in the United States where her mother lectured.

Well they arrested Graham Linehan for tweets made outside the UK, him not being a UK citizen, and those tweets were much more benign than these. So the only difference is time really.

Nigeria still her "home"... & not in the UK ... used our very generous rules on citizenship didn't she... no escaping that.

Again this will be the case for a lot of people, many of us are mobile and have lived abroad, had families abroad. It doesn’t therefore mean we have to give citizenship to just anyone. I’m struggling to see what you are not understanding here.

Twiglets1 · 29/12/2025 09:43

I've just googled the issue of stripping British citizenship and found this article from the Runneymede Trust published in 2025:

Under current laws, the Home Secretary may strip citizenship if they determine that to do so would be “conducive to the public good”. This is a concentrated executive power, taken based on secret evidence that the person stripped may never be able to see or challenge.

Any Brit with dual nationality could be stripped. Naturalised Brits may also be stripped if the Home Secretary has “reasonable grounds for believing” they may be able to claim a second nationality, whether or not they have actually done so. In practice, these powers have been used against people with a tenuous or non-existent claim to another nationality, leaving them effectively stateless.

https://www.runnymedetrust.org/publications/stripped-the-citizenship-divide#:~:text=Under%20current%20laws%2C%20the%20Home,dual%20nationality%20could%20be%20stripped.

But he won't get asylum here. I do agree it's going to be difficult to get rid of him through his citizenship but if the government has any balls at all it has to aim to do so. If he gets jailed prepare for him to go on hunger strike as he did in Egypt, and his mother did here.

There's a lot to prevent it from being granted.
