Aibu to cancel order from fox hunting supporting company?

I know in the grand scheme of things, it’s a first world problem but we ordered our kitchen from Neptune. The shop was close by, the styles were what fits the house and the people selling were cooperative.
To my surprise, I opened socials today to find out, that they support fox hunting with those stupid costumes, horses, dogs and all the pretentiousness. Seriously, Neptune think that the Ultra high networth people will go for their products instead of bespoke or some other eye watering expensive brand like Clive Christian or Officine Gullo hence the support? And when I commented it, they delete my comments.
Am I wrong to cancel my kitchen as I have time to do it.
I’m not one of those totalitarian vegans but a blood sport like this in 2025 in Britain?

I havent read the full thread, not sure why you're asking strangers this question, your choice is your choice

So I cant vote on the basis its a nonsense to ask others

However as a wider question, because I like their candles, what do you mean by support fox hunting, because actual fox hunting is illegal, are they breaking the law, are they supporting law breakers? Or are they supporting a legal hunt of some sort (and theres controversy about that I know)

Livingthebestlife · 27/12/2025 18:06

Fox hunting is huge in Ireland 😞😞 absolutely despise it and those who partake, if you feel that you cannot buy from people who do and support this then yes I would buy elsewhere and I'd be sure to let them know.

I think it’s a little bit hypocritical. It’s not humane to the animals caught up in the trail hunt, but neither is removing calves from their mothers within hours of their birth in the dairy industry, or having animals watch other animals being killed in an abattoir, knowing they’re about to suffer the same fate. Both of those things happen and the effects on the animals concerned are well documented. I’m not convinced that one thing is terrible and the other is ok simply because humans can use the products they get from farming animals.

But, we’re all hypocritical about something. Every one of us. And nothing would ever be improved if people didn’t take a stand on the little things where they could. If it’s important to you then cancel the kitchen. But tell them why, so they know that their opinions will be impacting their sales.

I think I've reached an epiphany here.

If being accepting of meat and dairy means I can't possibly object to killing foxes for entertainment as it would mean I'm a hypocrite, I'm going to have fully support fox hunting from now on.

It's a surprise to me, because I always thought that killing foxes in such an inefficient, theatrical, expensive and painful way was unacceptable as the only reward is pleasure for the humans, rather than sustenance or nourishment, but you've prompted me to rethink and reframe my opinions - and as the majority of people in the UK do eat meat and dairy products, they'll need to change their views and fully support all forms of hunting with dogs again.

Time to reverse the ban on hunting with hounds, as Wilfredspies has convinced me that it's the only logical conclusion to reach. And as it would be hypocritical to only allow the type of hunting associated with wealthier people, best bring back cock fighting, badger baiting and dog fights. Could go the whole hog and get the otterhounds after Tarka and his mates and import a few endangered bears for high holidays.

Oh lordy. Ive read a bit more of the thread

The 'boxing' post is hilarious!!!!

Probably one of the worst/best things Ive ever read on this site and that is really plumbing some depths there

Well done that poster, big laughs all round.

I now cant really pay attention to the rest of the thread

It needs to be pinned somewhere its so funny.

I haven’t seen their socials, but could they be opposing Labour’s plan to ban trail hunting? From what I’ve read trail hunting doesn’t involve purposely hunting live animals but allows for all the centuries old traditions around fox hunting go ahead. Seems reasonable to oppose that ban to me.

Exactly this.
So all the animal lovers aren’t worried about what happens to the hounds and horses. Or the jobs lost, including farriers, feed merchants, tack merchants etc.
Our Government is made up of metropolitan never experienced life fools that trot out this rubbish to fry and win votes, nothing less. Same with farmers, where they obviously had no idea that a farm’s machinery assets most likely are worth more that £1.5mil. Fools.

My father is a farrier. I’m still anti hunting. People won’t suddenly stop having horse because they can’t hunt anymore.

Have you been at the sherry? Because you’re normally reasonably sensible. I regularly disagree with you, but I can usually see how you’ve got to your opinion. But right now, you’re just being really silly.

The point I was making, which appears to have sailed right over the top of your head, is that there is no acceptable reason to harm animals in the way humans do. The way we farm animals is regularly just as harmful as the way they are killed in trail hunts. It doesn’t make it any less inhumane simply because we get a milkshake and a bacon sandwich at the end of it. We all tell ourselves that it’s not the same thing and it’s completely different because it’s not for entertainment. But IN MY OPINION, it’s not. Not really. You still have a terrified and traumatised animal who winds up dead. It’s not somehow morally superior to a trail hunt just because we’re benefitting from it. That’s just what we tell ourselves because we don’t want to give up meat or stop eating dairy. I wasn’t convinced that one thing is morally reprehensible and the other is absolutely fine simply because humans can use the products they get from farming animals. Nothing you said in your wall of sarcasm has made me change my mind.

But, as I also said, every single one of us are hypocrites about something or other. And I believe I also said that nothing would ever be improved if people didn’t take a stand on the little things where they could. So while I personally wouldn’t cancel an order, because I do eat meat and I do consume dairy, and I feel that it would be a bit hypocritical of me to do so, I understand why someone else might want to.

I get annoyed by people who say that nobody who consumes animal products should be concerned about animal welfare/preventing needless cruelty/protecting the environment and you've got caught in the crossfire, unfortunately.

If it weren't for omnivores and vegetarians also coming on board with the idea that it is morally wrong to do horrible things to animals purely for entertainment, no animal welfare laws or ones preventing cruelty and neglect would ever have been passed, which gets overlooked or dismissed by some parties who appear to feel that they have the monopoly on caring. Which doesn't help their cause, or those that the omni/vegetarian agrees with whilst being comfortable with also consuming animal products.

Apologies for assuming you were another vegan dismissing the concerns of people who do agree that it's barbaric to hunt for entertainment.

I don't drink, by the way. A lot of people don't. I'm just another twat on the internet.

AIBU I recently became pregnant. Yay!!! I told someone I thought was a close friend in confidence and asked her not to tell anyone so I could do a big announcement when all the girlie's were round, but when they came I was showered in baby grows and nappies. My acquaintance had told all of them. I fully lost my S and sent her home. AIBU

I think you need to start your own thread.

RosesAndHellebores · 27/12/2025 10:38

Presumavly everyone on this thread who opposes fox hunting also opppses boxing?

Boxers choose to get in the ring and punch each other, so are doing it of their own free will.

Foxes have no say in whether they get chased and killed by hounds, so it's not a valid comparison.

Nincompoo · 28/12/2025 06:47

Something like 20 million animals in this country have their throats slit whilst fully conscious in an abattoir every year in this country to provide halal and kosher meat.

If the government really cared about animal welfare they’d be tackling that.

Wordsmithery · 28/12/2025 07:29

Brilliant to cancel. Our power as consumers is huge. But make sure you tell them exactly why you've cancelled (and read the small print first).

TheQuirkyMaker · 28/12/2025 09:22

Stilish · 27/12/2025 12:10

How often do you go hunting? Or are you just repeating what you read in the comments section of Facebook?

We trail hunt every week. It is so wearing reading comments of people repeating the same ‘oh it’s just a smokescreen’ when you know they’re just repeating what they’ve read, and that they’ve never been anywhere near a trail hunt and probably don’t even live in the countryside.

I LOVE horse riding and have a gallop over the Dorset Downs. I don't need to kill foxes to have a good time, in fact I want wildlife to thrive.
