DH going to the gym on Christmas Day!

Wifetobe21 · 22/12/2025 22:11

For about 1.5 hours mid morning. A couple of his mates usually go and have roped him in.

He is into his fitness but surely people can give it a miss for one bloody day?!

OP posts:

The OP has already said that it's a gym attached to a hotel chain. I used to work in gyms and I worked Christmas and new year when I worked in pure gym

Sorry I missed that. I have to say, if my gym was open on Christmas Day I would probably go but I have grown up dcs who sit in their rooms for a large part of the day.

Better than the pub

He has one child. 19 months as I said earlier

The amount of kids isn’t the issue here though is it?

Not sure why you’re so obsessed that it’s just 1 child, like you’d have a different opinion if it was 2 children.

You're the person that kept saying kids when it was one child. I'm not obsessed on any level

Roobarbtwo · 23/12/2025 18:35

I honestly really can't be bothered. If you think someone is a bad dad for leaving the house on Christmas day you haven't encountered some really awful ones. That's for sure

I can't be bothered with the way people talk to one another on here just for having different opinions.

English isn’t my first language and so I often use plural when I shouldn’t.

I am not sure why it’s such a big deal. I am sorry if it offends you.

@Eyeshadow

maintaining your health and fitness as a parent is very important. Not good for your kids for you to get out of condition is it??

It doesn't offend me. Hth

Going to the gym if it's open is a completely normal and reasonable thing to do, no different to similar traditions of going for a morning swim, doing Christmas Park Run or taking the dog for a walk. It's only for 90 minutes and OP has her parents there to help with the child and with the cooking.

How great that he cares about his health and fitness.

If her parents are staying for several nights, rather than just visiting for the day, it's even more understandable if your home is full of other people and you might just want a bit of peace and quiet from it all (not from his own child, but I would struggle with my own relatives, let alone someone else's around all the time and feeling like I have no privacy/headspace)

I am assuming you don’t go the gym, if you did then you’d understand how important rest days are.

You’d also understand that most gyms aren’t even open on Xmas day (so even the PTs etc will skip 1 day) and that’s it’s just as important for OP and the child to maintain their health and fitness too and it does not need to happen at the gym.

So your argument is invalid.

Your posts are really off. You've been rude to me and rude to other people - what exactly are you trying to active?

Don't call people obsessed. Don't tell people their arguments are invalid.

Christ!

I haven’t been rude.

But someone saying that missing 90mins of gym sessions is going to affect someone’s health and fitness obviously has no idea about the gym and so therefore what they’re saying is invalid.
Its not rude, its just facts. Rest days from the gym are fine and actually encouraged.

And you quoted me at least twice to say that there was only 1 child, like that should make a difference to my opinion.
I did not respond to the first one and so you then said it again obviously wanting a reaction - so I’m not sure that you can claim that I am the one being off.

MeridaBrave · 23/12/2025 21:33

I’m just jealous his gym is open!

I don’t see the issue just tell him he can clear up after lunch.

You’re the one that keep tagging me but ok 🤨

Merry Christmas to you.

@Eyeshadow

but what if they were working Christmas Eve for example? So this would be their rest day.

NoSoupForU · 23/12/2025 23:14

DeftGoldHedgehog · 23/12/2025 07:23

How is the gym open? Even Pure Gym is shut. It's taking the piss if you are wrangling young children alone.

Pure Gym where i am is definitely open.

NoSoupForU · 23/12/2025 23:14

I suppose it does vary. Ours closes only on Christmas Day.

FestiveFruitloop · 24/12/2025 00:25

Simonjt · 23/12/2025 16:57

No, as in your post you said not everyone keeps christmas.

Exactly, so I’m not sure what prompted your question, given that I had already acknowledged that?

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 24/12/2025 02:05

Fuck's sake, 400+ posts in and people are still debating whether the gym will be open. Can anyone actually read these days?

You said not everyone keeps christmas, you also said at the same time you would be surprised if anyone with children didn’t see it as a family day, including those who don’t celebrate christmas.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 24/12/2025 10:30

FrodisCapering · 23/12/2025 12:53

It's more tragic to sit stuffing your face and getting pissed, or sitting in front of the TV.

Is that the only other option 😂

That's not how I worded the sentiment and you know it. I think there's more than a tinge of ingenuity in your responses - are you honestly trying to tell me you don't think the majority of families in the UK celebrate Christmas, if only for the benefit of their kids, regardless of whether they practise any religion at all?
