40 year old films, Xmas specials from half a century ago, bake-off and the bloody McIntyre wheel? That's the best they can come up with? And as for ITV - what kind of self-loathing maniac wants to watch Lorraine on Xmas morning? The only thing that sounds half decent is Amandaland. What are they playing at?

All the series I'm watching on streaming on Paramount, Disney and Apple are weekly so I can't watch them when I want anyway. A lot of series are like this now on the paid for platforms.

I’ve deliberately not watched a few things so I can binge watch over the xmas break.

Mydadsbirthday · 20/12/2025 23:59

The BBC do still make excellent content but there's not as much of it as there used to be.

I've bought a cheapo TV guide but haven't looked through it yet. However I'm looking forward to Amandaland and on Netflix there's a new Knives out film which we're saving to watch on Xmas Eve with the young teens and having a party food type menu which we usually do.

The Holdovers isn’t on terrestrial TV.

Merely responding to other posts so you should quote them not me.

ponyprincess · 21/12/2025 09:40

@Upholstery those are very good examples of what is missing. Wallace & Grommit is a big hit here too!

Ok I like Peep show. But bake-off is boring!

I'm the opposite. I like bake off but Peep Show is utter crap.

Streaming is something you do on your own, I'm not going to sit there on Christmas Day watching some series for hours.

Streaming doesn’t mean just binge watching a series! It’s just the ‘channel’ you watch on!

I didn’t like the new Knives Out. Lost interest, drifted to the point I had no idea (or interest in) what was happening.

A warning that's there's a detailed confession about masturbation from one of the priests. Might be uncomfortable depending on your teens!

I do think YANBU, but a little bit U, as Christmas day telly has been wank for YEARS now.

DH and I (and the kids when they were at home) just watch some of the DVDs we have, (we have about 50 Christmas films and Christmas shows,) and we watch stuff on Sky, and Netflix. Also ITVX if you have premium has LOADS of stuff on. It's only about a fiver a month, and there's no contract, so you could rent that for a couple of months, just through the darker months, when there's not much else to do, and then cancel it in late February. Same for Netflix.

I love watching Doctor Who at Christmas, some Christmas episodes, and a few non Christmas ones, because for some reason Doctor Who always reminds me of Christmas. And there's lots of stuff on BBC iPlayer too. Smile (And that is free.)

Haha thanks for the warning!!

Mistletoeiggi · 21/12/2025 11:47

Send them out to get snacks or something when he starts his confession 😂

OttersMayHaveShifted · 21/12/2025 12:46

We haven't really watched scheduled tv for years. The kinds of things I used to watch over the Christmas period are all on streaming now anyway. Lame comedy series, soppy period dramas, game shows and talent shows - no thanks. We don't watch tv on Christmas Day anyway, but will no doubt be warching a film or two at some point between Christmas and NY.

xmasstress12 · 21/12/2025 13:33

I was a little disappointed with the new knives out.

AgentPidge · 21/12/2025 13:51

All of the Wallace and Grommit's are on on Christmas Day

Ooh, that's good to know! The new one was so good last year! Really made us laugh.

Do people still watch live telly? I watch stuff on catch up, now tv, disney + etc.

Yes! I have no streaming. I only watch free stuff.
I like McIntyre's The Wheel.
I think it's funny!

Bloody love that 😁!

cornflakecrunchie · 21/12/2025 19:59

Think I'll be mainly watching american crime, as usual.. the rest sounds dire.

Usesomewords · 21/12/2025 20:08

Why is it that people can't use better words than "shit" and "crap" to describe things they don't like? Those words are used so often now that the impact of what they want to say is watered down, which is a shame because often the complaint is spot on.

You can watch free stuff without being tied to live tv.

Not sure what your point is then.

Just talking about Christmas telly. It's no biggie.
Can we have a conflict free chat on any thread at all? I'm really not here for an argument.
Merry Christmas everyone, and enjoy your telly watching! 🎁

Call the Midwife, at least that's new, I doubt there is anything good on Netflix or Disney

There’s volume 2 of the last season of Stranger Things! We are mad excited about that in our house.

Sartre · 21/12/2025 21:03

Same! We always watch the Julia Donaldson special but even that’s crap this year, I always hated that weird book and I’m astounded they chose that one when they could have done The Baddies or Jonty Gentoo.

We had the new Wallace and Gromit last year and Mog’s Christmas the year before to look forward to. Definitely looking forward to Amandaland but that’s it.

JohnTheRevelator · 21/12/2025 21:19

Call the Midwife is on on Christmas day and Boxing day!
