To ask what you think to head teacher saying this

I work in a school, as a TA. And over heard a child saying to the head teacher that they’d forgotten her name. And she said to him ‘’but I’m not the most important person here’’ not in a jokey way either. Then she looked over at me in a way like she was looking down at me.

I just can't really believe it's not like when my staff ask me for holiday and I say "Holiday? What makes you think you're allowed holiday?" with a totally straight face.

To be clear, they obviously are allowed holiday and in fact I bend over backwards to make sure people can take the holiday they want when they want.

School is finished tomorrow lunchtime.

It's the longest and busiest term of the year
... EVERYONE is shattered in schools, teachers, kids, TAs, admin staff....

So, get through tomorrow...and enjoy your well deserved break and see how it is in January.

MrsMillyFluff · 18/12/2025 22:16

It really sounds like she was being sarcasticly silly and looked at you to find the humour in what she just said.

SodiumNitritePlease · 18/12/2025 22:21

Good grief, she was obviously joking but the HT is more important than a TA anyway

Usernamenotav · 18/12/2025 22:32

She said she's not the most important person here (probably meaning that the child is more important?)
What's wrong with that? If she had said she was the most important then I'd see a tiny issue.

Read the thread then!

Sorry, it meant to say
’but I’m the most important person here’

OK, well sounds like a joke to me. But also, the head teacher is more important in a school than a TA so who cares.

Exactly

The headteacher is saying that the pupil is the most important person there.

This!!
And for context, I am also a Head Teacher!

VaccineSticker · 18/12/2025 23:36

How old are you?
You need to move on or move jobs if you’re that unhappy. This is a non story.

What? Is this post actually for real? I dont understand why the headteacher said what she did and as for just looking at you? This is all just ridiculous and not worthy of a second thought! Do you really have so little going in in your life that you have to look for problems?

A Head Teacher who can’t read an entire thread, it seems. Wink

Presumably the pupils are the most important ones in the school

That's what I thought. She was telling the little boy that she wasn't most important.. he was

MiloMinderbinder · 19/12/2025 21:56

”they’d forgotten her name” - could you make it clearer who is who here, please?

I thought it was clear that the child had forgotten the HT's name.

EmilyyH9 · 18/12/2025 13:39

Well, no I don’t feel appreciated and some others don’t

I suspect it's all in the tone, and that's hard to convey here. it could be said jokingly, it could be said in shock, it could be said as an admonishment.

I think the fact you don't feel appreciated plays into this tho. I'd focus on that

CaptainMyCaptain · 20/12/2025 20:45

Some people just aren't as funny as they think they are. I think it was meant to be a joke but it fell flat because the child didn't get it and the OP made it all about her.

MrsZiggywinkle · 20/12/2025 21:57

She sounds like an arse. I would certainly think less of her. People believe their own shit. Doesn’t mean you have to.

Perhaps people should read their post before submitting it?
