To ask what you think to head teacher saying this

I work in a school, as a TA. And over heard a child saying to the head teacher that they’d forgotten her name. And she said to him ‘’but I’m not the most important person here’’ not in a jokey way either. Then she looked over at me in a way like she was looking down at me.

You sound like one of those people who looks for shit to be offended by to me.

OctopusFriend · 18/12/2025 15:17

Nothing.
It's absolutely nothing at all. Move on

Mapletree1985 · 18/12/2025 15:29

You interpreted it as her looking down on you, perhaps because that's what you expected. Perhaps you are doing her an injustice, reading a meaning into her look that she never intended.

Delphiniumandlupins · 18/12/2025 15:43

I think the head teacher was trying to make a joke. Maybe the child wouldn't get it, maybe your HT is just not natural comedian, maybe it's very close to the end of a long and difficult term. I think you are reading too much into what her thoughts are. I'm very sorry you feel unappreciated, I hope the children you work with, their parents and other colleagues do appreciate you. Maybe tomorrow you could lead a "thanks for all your support" to colleagues who do help.

Charlotte120221 · 18/12/2025 15:45

blimey this is finding an issue when absolutely nothing exists?

Head tried to have a joke with a small child and you have somehow taken personal offense at it?

Incelebration · 18/12/2025 15:45

Do you often misinterpret things people say (and consequently take offence where none is intended)?

TiredofLDN · 18/12/2025 15:45

Just sounds like a dry joke to me?

Fruitfiddler · 18/12/2025 15:52

Chip meet shoulder.

Hippobot · 18/12/2025 15:53

Scraping the barrel for posts today OP.

Itiswhysofew · 18/12/2025 15:55

How is she generally towards you and others?

If she tends to have an attitude, I can understand you questioning her "look". Or maybe she has a dry sense of humour?

Biskieboo · 18/12/2025 15:56

Purpleharlow · 18/12/2025 11:55

Eh?

This.

Unless you’ve made a typo I’d have thought they were saying they aren’t the most important person and then looking at you as if to signify that you are? Because for a child, their teacher or the TA will be the most important person.

Yes, this is how I interpreted it.
The headteacher is saying to the child that it's ok to have forgotten her name because she's not that important in the child's class.
Sounds like a nice thing to say to the child. Making them feel ok about forgetting the name.

2025VibeandThrive · 18/12/2025 16:12

Just leave if you are not happy there. Don’t start looking for things to feel aggrieved at.

80smonster · 18/12/2025 16:31

Bloody hell. I always think you have to be childish to work with kids.

Sunnydays60 · 18/12/2025 16:33

It sounds like the HT isn't particularly popular amongst staff. I think perhaps you've chosen a bit of an unfortunate example and providing it without context, makes it seem like nothing. Perhaps they are a bit of an egotist and the workplace is therefore uncomfortable. Maybe start shopping around for other roles?Unless someone works with this person, they are not likely to be able to form an accurate opinion of their actions so I'm not sure you're going to get any helpful type of reaction.

NellieJean · 18/12/2025 16:35

What I would take from this is the head being modest and indicating to the child that you are more important than her. In other words paying you a compliment.

SheinIsShite · 18/12/2025 16:36

Never ceases to amaze me the trivia which people get offended by. Jeez Louise.

BillieWiper · 18/12/2025 16:36

What's it got to do with you? She was talking to a child and obviously saying it doesn't matter that much if you forget the teacher's name sometimes? Why would she be "looking down" on you while not actually having a conversation with you?

Has this person been bullying you or something?

sumayyah · 18/12/2025 16:36

Eh just let the whole thing wash over your head
The most important people in school for my son are the TA's in his unit. These are the people who he spends his entire school day with (no teacher currently, shes been off work since last Christmas)
Last year his headteacher would have been on the peripheral of his importance circle as he would go in and support my son regulating but the current headteacher? Couldn't pick her out of a line up let alone name her and if he ever saw her would call her miss and go on about his day

Either your headteacher was making a joke to the child or has a thing about her status
End of the day it doesnt really impact you so let it go and focus on the children in your care

DottyLottieLou · 18/12/2025 16:42

Head teachers are strange creatures

DaisyChain505 · 18/12/2025 16:44

Surely by the head teacher saying they’re not the most important person here they’re implying others are more important. How is that a negative to you, it’s a negative to her?

Sugargliderwombat · 18/12/2025 16:47

I can't imagine anyone being so cringe worthy as to think they are the most important person and then SAY it to a child. Surely it was a badly told joke?

Sugargliderwombat · 18/12/2025 16:47

The OP corrected her post, the head said 'but I'm the most important person here".

snugasabug75 · 18/12/2025 16:48

You're over thinking this

ilovesooty · 18/12/2025 16:49

If you don't feel appreciated you could address that issue instead of looking to be offended by an interaction which was seemingly nothing to do with you.
