To ask what you think to head teacher saying this

EmilyyH9 · 18/12/2025 11:22

I work in a school, as a TA. And over heard a child saying to the head teacher that they’d forgotten her name. And she said to him ‘’but I’m not the most important person here’’ not in a jokey way either. Then she looked over at me in a way like she was looking down at me.

Actually, is this a reverse? Are you the HT and were being kind but that TA has bizarrely taken offence?

surreygirly · 18/12/2025 12:13

This is a problem ?
You actually came here to post this?
Really
The world has gone mad
Totally mad
Barking mad

KilliMonjaro · 18/12/2025 12:18

Eh?

Celestialmoods · 18/12/2025 12:19

What’s the problem? You sound like you’re looking for one.

EmilyyH9 · 18/12/2025 13:13

Sorry, it meant to say
’but I’m the most important person here’

OP posts:
EmilyyH9 · 18/12/2025 13:15

She said as if to say, how could he have forgot her name. She’s the most important

i think it's been a very long term, you're tired and you need to get a grip.

GinAndJuice99 · 18/12/2025 13:17

In that case the head was humorously teasing the child.

Thatsalineallright · 18/12/2025 13:18

You take offence easily and you're not very good at explaining things... Is this the job for you? Working with kids you need a thick skin!

So the complete opposite of what you originally posted?

SilenceInside · 18/12/2025 13:19

I think that nothing that was said nor any look was any kind of a dig at you.

ClawedButler · 18/12/2025 13:21

Kindly, I think you're projecting your own feelings onto this non-event.

Do you feel under-appreciated?
Do you feel you could do more?
Do you have anything you'd like to achieve in your job?

Should that be, 'I am the most important person here'? I don't understand.

SparkleSpriteDust · 18/12/2025 13:23

I would think they were very full of themselves.

PigeonsandSquirrels · 18/12/2025 13:29

I mean… she’s the head teacher and you’re the TA.

You are her employee/subordinate so even if she is looking ‘down’ at you… that is in fact your position in the hierarchy. So I don’t see an issue.

It’s not like she insulted you she made a joke with a child and then looked at you.

Applespearsandpeaches · 18/12/2025 13:33

EmilyyH9 · 18/12/2025 13:15

To be honest unless this child has disabilities, just arrived last week or maybe is in nursery class I’d be a bit surprised if they didn’t know the headteachers name!

She made an off the cuff remark probably in surprise, maybe not the absolutely best judged comment in the world but come on, you’ve never said anything even slightly off in your time in school?!

BringBackCatsEyes · 18/12/2025 13:35

EmilyyH9 · 18/12/2025 13:15

I don't really understand what you're trying to explain, but the head teacher pretty much is the most important person in the school.

Do you think the Head believes that YOU think you're the most important person and was putting you in your place?

worrisomeasset · 18/12/2025 13:38

If a child in one of my classes said they couldn't remember my name, I could see myself replying in mock horror along the lines of "but I'm the most important person in the room!" It's called a J O K E.

As for 'she looked over at me in a way like she was looking down at me", what did she actually do with her face to give you that idea?

EmilyyH9 · 18/12/2025 13:39

Well, no I don’t feel appreciated and some others don’t

Ah, you have issues with the headteacher and were looking for more...

It’s forgotten not forgot and you altered the meaning of your OP by not proofreading it. I don’t mean to sound harsh, but you are a TA so you need to be on top of these things.

PigeonsandSquirrels · 18/12/2025 13:56

EmilyyH9 · 18/12/2025 13:39

Well, no I don’t feel appreciated and some others don’t

And how would you like to be made to feel appreciated for doing the job that you are paid to do? What have they done that has made you feel like they don’t appreciate your role?

Wordsmithery · 18/12/2025 13:57

I have no idea what this post even means 🤔

OneShyQuail · 18/12/2025 15:14

What school.do you work in?! Asking so I can swap jobs. Because at this time of year if you work in any role in a school and this is the only thing you have to think about then you are LIVING THE DREAM 😂

Starlight1984 · 18/12/2025 15:15

Wordsmithery · 18/12/2025 13:57

I have no idea what this post even means 🤔

A child went up to the headteacher and said that they had forgotten their name. The headteacher said "but I'm the most important person here" (probably as a joke despite what the OP says) and the apparently looked at the OP.

That's it.
