Just been told to remove my pronouns from my Teams profile

I'm weak 🤣
My manager just phoned me to say there has been some serious complaints made about me that he must urgently address.
I panicked.
In the Pronouns section of my Teams profile, I have

'Take a Wild Guess'

Its been there for a few years. Its finally been noticed and I've been told to take it down because it's made someone or more than one possibly, FEARFUL of me.

You also said child abusers. That's a terrible thing to say, and simply untrue.

Depends what you count as child abuse - I’d say an ideology that encourages the medicalisation of children that results in long term ill health is child abuse.

I strongly disagree. You can have an opinion, but you can’t go around harassing people that share a different viewpoint.

So it's harassment now? Christ when did everybody become such a wet lettuce? We've gone from 4 hurty words on a woman's work profile that are enough to apparently cause fear in others to it being deemed harassment.

4 words. 4 little hurty words in response to the most ridiculous fucking question ever that only exists because a portion of society are so incredibly precious and Narcissistic that they've managed to affect the English language. Pathetic.

The existence of that section is unprofessional.

So you take that up with the company, not write childish things to ridicule and intentionally be antagonistic which the OP has stated she's done.

I can't believe adults act like that in a workplace. Don't write anything if you don't agree with it. Or if it offends you that the section is even there, raise it as an issue.

People are allowed to be GC (I am), but not go about ridiculing and being antagonistic just because they don't agree. It's called being a decent human being and knowing how to behave at work.

This is so deeply unprofessional it made me cringe. And to laugh when you were being given a warning… yikes.

Honestly surprised that with the job market as it is people are so willing to make themselves so unpopular at work.

But popular with all the right people.

YANBU, OP.

The promotion and push of gender ideology among children is child abuse. If you can’t or won’t see that, that’s your problem.

Gender ideology is sexist, homophobic and child abusing. What kind of workplace wants that in their organisation?

I can’t believe that adults push this ideology in the workplace. That is much much more concerning than people laughing at it.

Unless you've been forced to add your pronouns without any option to refuse, adding sardonic ones can only be interpreted as you mocking those who want to use them. From your posts, it sounds like that is what you are doing. How about just not doing anything instead? Why so involved?

I am mocking them

My octopus account has in the pronouns section ‘ I don’t believe in that nonsense ‘

Gallowayan · 18/12/2025 11:08

How did we get to this point of insanity?

AnSolas · 18/12/2025 11:08

Plateofcrumbs · 18/12/2025 10:39

It’s just pronouns. I have a first name that is commonly a given name for both males and females. Having pronouns on my email or teams profile avoids confusion. There doesn’t have to be any “ideology” about it.

There is a ideology attached. You may not understand what faith belief you signed up to but you are buying into the idea that girls/women think and act in a way which is different to boys/men and it is the act or though not your sex which puts you in the girl/woman or boy/man box.

Is your sex relevent to your role?
Are you in a role which requires physical contact or consent when your sex is relevent to the other party?

If you want to avoid confusion replace sex/gender markers and add you initials which removes the need for staff to even try work out your sex.

surprisebaby12 · 18/12/2025 11:08

The tone isn’t exactly professional and is obviously making your colleagues uncomfortable. You should change or remove it.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 18/12/2025 11:08

OP I love and am TERRIFIED of you in equal measures 😂

I meant to be antagonising. Or at least pointing out the ludicrous views that my employer is trying to push on it's employees and woe betide anyone that that has a personal opinion that differs to them.

Did your employer insist everyone added pronouns? I'm unclear

EasternStandard · 18/12/2025 11:10

EstherGreenwood63 · 18/12/2025 11:00

@EasternStandard No such thing as 'cisgender' babe. hth.

Don’t babe me, I can’t stand the term. Perhaps you meant the person I was replying to who used it.

Cattenberg · 18/12/2025 11:10

PluckyChancer · 18/12/2025 10:39

They totally deserve to be ridiculed. 🤣🤣

What about disabled employees? Are they allowed to signal their disability by use of special pronouns?

Diversity and inclusion seems to only apply to blokes wearing frocks. 😡

Good point. If we're serious about DEI, maybe we should consider displaying all of our protected characteristics in our email signatures?

LVhandbagsatdawn · 18/12/2025 11:10

Sorry but if you're deliberately intending to antagonise or mock then it's completely right that you're asked to remove them.

At that point it's not about taking a stand, you're just having a go for the hell of it and that shouldn't be tolerated in any workplace.

I find the whole thing stupid so I just leave mine blank. There's no need to be a dick about it.

If that sentence makes a person uncomfortable they are extremely privileged 😳

Daygloboo · 18/12/2025 11:11

Ddakji · 18/12/2025 10:54

The only way to identify as the opposite sex is through sexist stereotypes. If you deny sex you deny same sex attraction. It’s all inherent in pretending you’re something you’re not.

Pronouns aren’t new words. They have existed for a long time and have clear sex-based meanings. The attack in and distortion of language is an essential weapon in the normalisation of this ideology.

Maybe im thick but i dont get the argument. I didnt think trans people claimed that they were actually the opposite sex. I thought they claimed woman as a state of mind distinct from female as a biological fact. If sexual attraction has a biological basis how is that connected to identity as a state of mind.? Like i said, maybe i just dont get the argument.

LittleBitofBread · 18/12/2025 11:11

Change them to 'say what you/see'.

CitizenofMoronia · 18/12/2025 11:11

change them to Empress/Goddess... let them tremble in your presence

Adding “preferred pronouns” is bringing the personal into work (a personal ideology which is misogynistic and homophobic) and is unprofessional.

Why have so many people swallowed this nonsense?

I blame that #BeKind crap

Howmanycatsistoomany · 18/12/2025 11:15

Horrace · 18/12/2025 10:23

Ive just left it blank.

I'm in my 50s, he is the same age as me. I laughed as he was telling me but he didn't smile once.

Thank God I'm freelance and don't have to deal with nonsense like this in the workplace any more. I'd be tempted to fuck with them OP and change my pronouns every month.😉
