Anyone worried about this new flu?

So my kids in 2022 had flu A and my 2 year old got sepsis after being ignored by doctors s just a virus for a week after multiple trips, he recovered and he is ok.. skip to last year they then got flu A again a much milder strain but we’re still very poorly and now this year it’s everywhere again and seems to be an awful strain and I’m just dreading it.. before anyone says.. non of us are vaccinated we are to to date with all vaccinations and I’m really not an anti vaxer.. but I don’t know how I feel about the flu spray if I’m honest.. doesn’t look like they are working much.. I’m just also anxious about it.. how is everyone else feeling?

My friend from uni caught flu and developed ME/CFS as a result. She now uses a wheelchair a lot of the time.

AlleycatMarie · 18/12/2025 00:58

I’m not concerned personally because I’ve had the vaccine.

Get the jab. I had flu last year for the first time in my life (I'm 57). I genuinely thought I was dying. It's the worst I've felt in my life. (I've had dengue fever and other dreadful viruses). I will never not get the flu jab again. Please, everyone DO IT!!

High five. I’ve had dengue.

freakingscared · 18/12/2025 01:38

Just keep their immune system topped up with good probiotics and elderberry syrup and most kids recover in full .

If you want to gamble with your kids' health, OP, then that's your prerogative. It's a shame for the children who aren't protected, but sadly, many children are disadvantaged because of the poor choices made by their parents - that's just the lottery of life and there isn't really much we can do about it.

It does seem very strange, though, that you would start a thread on the Internet worrying about flu when you haven't even bothered to take basic precautions to protect your dc.

Gamble with your kids health?? Have you read the many parents that have been vaccinated and also had their kids vaccinated and the flu has absolutely floored them, just as it has floored the parents/children that are unvaccinated!! God created our immune system to fight diseases without vaccines, keep the needles away from your children. Everyone please read an amazing book by Suzanne Humphries called “Dissolving illusions” it’s a real eye opener

Yeah it’s not just me.. I’m it against it all I just see lots and lots of people saying that they have been flu jabbed this year and it making no difference or they seem to be the ones that are getting it

So you are saying if you have had the jab you are more likely to get the flu???

Ok 🫩

Tiredmama11 · 18/12/2025 04:19

Can I ask - can babies be vaccinated against flu? My 4yo has had the vaccine but i‘m worried about my 7 month old…

SelotapeChicken · 18/12/2025 05:04

I bet you’d have them vaccinated if we had to prove flu jab status to go on holiday

Superwomann · 18/12/2025 05:43

I would like my 2 year old to have it but she isn’t eligible as she wasn’t 2 on 31/8!
I’ve also been trying to get an appointment for myself as people seem so worried about this years strain so it’s worrying me! Normally not a worrier and have never had the flu.

There are no appointments!! Only for eligible people.. I’m happy to pay but there are none within 40 miles of us. I’ve found free ones that I can book but will they turn us away as we’re not eligible?
I also don’t want to take the vaccine away from people who need it more but I wonder how I could book it at all through patient access if it’s only for eligible people??

Switcher · 18/12/2025 06:47

I'm not concerned about it particularly, but I've taken the flu jab from work and had the kids vaccinated. No, I didn't vaccinate my kids against COVID because that was nuts and did huge (and clearly lasting) harm to vaccine confidence in the general population.

Timeforanamechangeagain2 · 18/12/2025 07:00

vanillalattes · 17/12/2025 08:18

If you were that concerned you’d get the flu jab.

I’m worried about my one year old. He’s the only one in the family who hasn’t had the vaccine since they don’t do it for under 2s. Yet he’s the most vulnerable.

It’s really difficult to find somewhere that will do it. I have the same concerns.

Yes, if you have chosen not to vaccinate your children because you've swallowed a load of anti-vax misinformation, then you are absolutely gambling with their health. I hope for their sakes that none of your dc suffer serious consequences as a result of your irresponsible decision-making.

I doubt that many people will be reading the anti-vax crap that you're so eager to promote.

smileyplant · 18/12/2025 07:36

Wow totally shocked given the circumstances you haven't taken up the flu spray and jab. Yes it isn't 100% effective and won't necessarily stop the infection but it will decrease the severity and it sounds like your children are very prone to complications from flu A. I'd be ringing round trying to find an appointment OP.

Brutalass · 18/12/2025 08:08

My son had Influenza A ended up in ICU contracted double pneumonia nearly died! I dot Influenza A ended up in hospital. Unfortunately we were both called for the vaccines after he was in hospital (so just too late)!! We've had them now though. The vaccines also made us ill - but there's a reason the vaccines are there!

Get the damn vaccines - the alternative is unspeakable! The end.

Wow! I understand people think agree with the vaccination but wasn’t expecting so much hate for it, I take it all of you felt safe covid vaxing your kids? I’m not saying I’m against it, my daughter used to have it every year and one of them years had a very funny turn with it so wasn’t sure again and my youngest was off at the time it was given and have thought about getting it done since but wasn’t sure wasn’t saying I was completely against it ..

funny turn?

Applecup · 18/12/2025 08:28

I wasn’t too bothered about the Covid vaccine until I caught Covid. I’ve never felt so ill and it took months to get over it and some symptoms still linger. Husband caught it at the same time and it was like a mild cold. Vaccines don’t necessarily stop you catching the flu but it can be much milder. If you are that worried get the vaccine. I pay for the Covid one every year now.

Katemax82 · 18/12/2025 08:31

Pranksters · 17/12/2025 08:20

Apparently the flu vaccine is targeting the right strain this year.. I’m a children’s nurse and we are full of the flu.

Did you have the vaccine?

This.

Stop taking risks with your DCs’ health and get them vaccinated.

My DS got covid just before he was scheduled to have the first jab. I was surprised how ill he was - in bed for several days, vomiting, flu type symptoms, persistent dizziness. I was having to hold him up to get him to sip drinks. I had him vaccinated on the first day he was eligible after recovery. We’re in Liverpool but I drove him to St Helens as there was availability there.

I had Covid after two vaccinations. I was hardly ill.

I’ve paid for DS now 17 to have the flu jab this year as sixth formers don’t get the spray. I’ll be paying for Men B before he goes to uni.

I would contact your GP. I may be wrong for babies but I'm pretty sure DD had the nasal spray at the doctors every year until she started school.

Notsureibelonghere · 18/12/2025 10:40

I'm not here to comment on the vaccinations specifically but surely if you have a concern about an illness that made your DC very poorly in the past and you know there is a vaccine that is likely to reduce the risk you would get it for your DC if they are otherwise healthy and haven't reacted to that vaccine in the past.

Doteycat · 18/12/2025 10:46

Fairyladyonwheels · 17/12/2025 23:50

Completely agree. The people I know who had the vaccine ended up more ill. Never had the covid vaccine either and when I got covid, I thought this has to be a joke as I was barely ill. My partner's mum had all the vaccines in 1 year including the flu and ended up with turbo cancer. My nana ended up in hospital when she had the flu vaccine and stopped having it amd was not ill again.

No such this as turbo cancer,.
And I have every vaccine going and i never "ended up " more ill.
God the absolute RUBBISH from the cult is insane.

A family friend who no longer has control over her hand. They are curled up and shake.
My sister’s tutor ended up in a coma and had stroke like side effects after (she had the initial 2 vaccines then 2 boosters. Had also had Covid)
Another friend it triggered ME.
2 people who ended up with a frozen shoulder caused from the injection site (yes I know you can get this from other vaccines)
They know as that is what the doctors have said caused it.

5 people might not seem like a lot but I know 0 people that have had side effects like this from other vaccines.

There isnt a chance in hell any doctor said it caused it. You are just spouting that crap to try back up your BS.
Every single one of those illness happen to people, because people can get sick.
Nothing to do with vaccines and everything to do with being a human.
Get a grip.

So did I have the Covid vaccine but didn’t get my children vaccinated.. they had Covid 3x and were absolutely fine

Children didn’t seem to be badly affected by Covid, it was older people at more risk. With flu, young people can be very badly affected. During the1920s flu A pandemic young people seemed to do worse than older people.
