So my kids in 2022 had flu A and my 2 year old got sepsis after being ignored by doctors s just a virus for a week after multiple trips, he recovered and he is ok.. skip to last year they then got flu A again a much milder strain but we’re still very poorly and now this year it’s everywhere again and seems to be an awful strain and I’m just dreading it.. before anyone says.. non of us are vaccinated we are to to date with all vaccinations and I’m really not an anti vaxer.. but I don’t know how I feel about the flu spray if I’m honest.. doesn’t look like they are working much.. I’m just also anxious about it.. how is everyone else feeling?

I had the vaccination in October. Had the flu 2 weeks ago. I have never , ever been as ill as I was with this. I was absolutely wiped out and still haven't got back to eating normally so the weight I lost ( half a stone) is still off. I went to bed on Wednesday afternoon and didn't get out of it again until Sunday evening. It is a horrible illness. I had had the vaccine. I dread to think how it would have been if I hadn't.

Wow! I understand people think agree with the vaccination but wasn’t expecting so much hate for it, I take it all of you felt safe covid vaxing your kids? I’m not saying I’m against it, my daughter used to have it every year and one of them years had a very funny turn with it so wasn’t sure again and my youngest was off at the time it was given and have thought about getting it done since but wasn’t sure wasn’t saying I was completely against it ..

It’s not hate it’s just pointing out the irony.

Yes, I took the covid vaccine. Why wouldn’t I?

cramptramp · 17/12/2025 08:54

You’re endangering your children by not getting them vaccinated.

Starrynight999 · 17/12/2025 08:55

So did I have the Covid vaccine but didn’t get my children vaccinated.. they had Covid 3x and were absolutely fine

Kids are most at risk in current flu outbreak, esp. age 5-14: try to get them nasal vaccine for flu. Ask if pharmacy can administer it.

Covid is different to the flu.

im very surprised you wouldn’t vaccinate your child after they became so unwell with flu

My household isn’t vaccinated either. We had the very first vaccine for covid and that’s it. We have had covid several times and not been that unwell. I am not worried about the flu. One of my dc had a bad reaction to the MMR that landed her in hospital so I am always wary about vaccinating her. She’s survived covid with minimum symptoms.
I know so many people who have been vaccinated for flu (my mother being one of them) and then they pick up every virus going including flu. I would rather not have the vaccine.

Disagreement with your stance is not "hate".

Really tired of seeing that word thrown around so casually.

If you're so concerned do the logical thing and get your family vaccinated.

Yeah it’s not just me.. I’m it against it all I just see lots and lots of people saying that they have been flu jabbed this year and it making no difference or they seem to be the ones that are getting it

Just another anti vaxx thread by the look of it.

They haven't picked up every virus going because they had a vaccination for flu. That's totally disordered thinking. My mother ( 86)picks up illnesses because she's a member of lots of different social groups and mixes with lots of different people who have also mixed with lots of different people. Presumably your mother and her friends are also out and about living their lives , having a ball and , sadly, picking up bugs.

Archymum · 17/12/2025 09:05

The flu vaccine will make it less likely for someone to get flu in the first place, and will minimise the worst symptoms if one does get the flu. Is it 100% fool proof? No. Is it significantly better than spinning the roulette wheel and hoping for the best? Yes.

We all get the vaccine every year (DC flu mist, DH and I flu jab). Haven't had flu in about 20 years, despite having a very high exposure job where I spend a lot of time in the company of ill people. Worst side effect I've had is a sore arm for a day or so after the jab. DC never have any side effects from the flu mist.

TeeBee · 17/12/2025 09:08

I got sepsis the last time I had flu so there’s no way I’d skip my vaccine again. I know how close I was to dying. Having had the vaccine means I’m not too concerned. If I catch it, I will hopefully not be too severe with it.

TheGrimSmile · 17/12/2025 09:12

Ive never had a flu vaccine. Having had this flu in October and it lasting a month, I will definitely get one next winter.

Conthin12 · 17/12/2025 09:12

You must have actively opted out of your children receiving the vaccine

QuickPeachPoet · 17/12/2025 09:13

Zero sympathy for you if you didn't bother getting vaccinated. Especially if your kids have a history of being sickly.

But given your kids health history….

ShodAndShadySenators · 17/12/2025 09:14

There are more than one flu virus going around at any time. The vaccine is focused on the strains considered more likely to be a problem. It's possible people are getting a strain that hasn't been considered to be one of the worst, or that people's immune systems are responding differently to a known strain, or that there is a mutant strain.

Your best bet is getting your children vaccinated anyway then you will know that you did what you could to help your children in the only way available. As PPs have said, it's a no-brainer. There's very little else that you can do to mitigate the risk of their becoming ill with flu (or covid or colds), is there?

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 17/12/2025 09:16

Not particularly. I had my flu jab earlier this year to protect my unborn baby, and I'm not in a vulnerable group. I'm just getting over a stinker of a cold and I have a lingering tickly/chesty cough that won't shift, it's not nearly as bad a couple of nights ago, mind.

You have an immune system, keep it strong. And if you need a bit of extra help, get the flu jab.

Simbaonedaythiswillallbeyours · 17/12/2025 08:33

None of you are vaccinated but you are online posting about being worried after you have all had flu before and know how bad it can be? What do you think people will say?

What is the logic? Do you think a runny nose from a tiny spray in the nose is more dangerous?

The mind boggles. Get a vaccination and stop posting for attention. Ridiculous.

Totally agree. Why does she come on here when it’s her fault as the children aren’t vaccinated?

ArcticGrass · 17/12/2025 09:17

Kids are catching it more than adults. I had the jab and still got flu but I think it would have been far worse if I hadn't been jabbed.

Get your kids the vaccine you muppet.
Also this programme explains the facts rather well.

OP
At least give your children a chance by vaccinating them and you and your partner.
I am amazed by your attitude

Largestlegocollectionever · 17/12/2025 09:18

Not vaccinated here and never get ill.
those that take every vaccine are the ones that seem to get ill, and then tell me it would have been worse if they’re not been vaccinated…. But I reckon they wouldn’t have got ill!

Do you seriously believe that?
Do your research on vaccines.

Aquabluemouse · 17/12/2025 09:22

So you were upset after the dr ignored your 2 year old’s symptoms but you’re happy to ignore drs advice to get your kids vaccinated?

Your kids keep getting flu and you’re worried about them getting it yet you don’t protect them by getting the flu spray?

Come on. This can’t be real.
