Liverpool attacker sentenced

Paul Doyle, the Liverpool parade attacker, has been sentenced to twenty one years and six months in prison for his attack that injured 134 people.

That’s 258 months, or less than two months per person injured. He’ll be out in half, so 129 months served. Less than one month per person. Reading the victim impact statements was awful. One from a little boy, who is completely traumatised, stuck with me.

AIBU to think this is a farce?!

He’ll serve 2/3rds. There is no 50% for violent crime.

MotherTuckinGenius · 16/12/2025 18:50

I very much doubt he’ll even do half his sentence in gone soft Britain 🤬

Okay so that’s 14 years and two months. 170 months. 1.25 months per person he attacked with his car. That’s not justice.

It seemed a lot to me, when you see what people get for rape and murder, but the judge explained how it was calculated and it all made sense.

thisfilmisboring123 · 16/12/2025 18:52

I thought it was a pretty decent sentence.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 16/12/2025 18:52

Is this the guy who got the good press after? Saying he was a family man and professional?

I was surprised as I thought it would be a very light sentence following those reports but I think its good. Did anyone die? (i hope not)

ProfessorRedshoeblueshoe · 16/12/2025 18:52

Did you listen to the Judge ? I thought he was very fair.

Yes this was my first thought too, but then I realised the sentence on its own doesn’t sound harsh for what he’s done, only when you compare it to sentences for rapes and murders. Which really means it murder and rape sentences that are too low, not that his sentence is too high.

“decent”?! He attacked a crowded parade in sheer rage. Children have had their lives ruined through trauma. He hit babies. He’ll be 68 by the time he gets out. Just young enough to enjoy a nice long retirement. It’s disgusting.

Why did he do it? I still don’t understand!

Still is now. The BBC are pushing that he’s the “nice neighbour” and he had “two sides”

There’s totality of sentencing to consider. A 20 year sentence is a very significant sentence and one people get for murder etc. I am not at all saying he deserved less because he didn’t but I think it’s about right considering he will spend probably 13 years behind bars and then 7 out on strict license.

The impact to the victims and their families is obviously horrific but you can’t sentence for 134 crimes and add them together because the overall sentence must be commensurate with the nature of the offending

Pure rage. He tried to say he panicked but that was soon proven wrong by his dashcam footage.

The judge has said he'll serve 2/3rds.

Stop shit stirring by saying he'll be out in less than half. That's not the case

Road rage.

I wish I was joking.

Angry people should not be allowed to drive, honestly.

What do you think is commensurate with purposefully driving your car into a crowd that was, across the entire city, one million people? The only reason he didn’t injured more or kill anyone is because the crowd was so dense.

I thought it was quite a stiff sentence as no-one was killed given the poor sentencing we see in the UK.

Ebok1990 · 16/12/2025 18:57

I was confounded that he'd be able to drive again. Banned for an additional 3 years after his sentence ends. He'll be knocking on a bit by then but it doesn't seem right that he can be trusted behind the wheel again.

Cynic17 · 16/12/2025 18:58

His life is ruined, regardless of how long he spends in prison. So, yes, it's a very severe punishment.

About 21 years 😬

I just think the Judge has a unenviable job in this case because it was obviously an awful crime but you can’t just sentence him to 134 years in prison or a full life tariff because you feel upset by his actions and what could have been. You have to look at what was which, mercifully, was that nobody died and then apply the sentencing guidelines, consider mitigation and then consider totality.

Oh no how awful for him! It’s not really, is it? He’ll come out and be entitled to the state pension and be able to drive without any restrictions after three years. He has traumatised children for life.

You are reacting with your anger. While it is useful to feel righteous anger, it doesn't serve justice. We have a long legal tradition in this country that aims to balance both sides. If you are not satisfied that this man has ruined his own life and that of his wife and children, then you can write to appeal the sentence. In fact, you don't even have to bother because I am sure someone else will. But carry on frothing, no one on here can change the sentence.

He committed GBH with intent. That’s a crime that carries a life sentence. I’ve yet to see an argument against a life sentence that isn’t just “nobody died”, which is in part down to the very brave fans who opened his car and confronted him.

21 years is a pretty long sentence considering he didn't actually kill anyone.

Seriously, think how long ago 21 years was for you. Think how old you'll be in 21 years.

Its a not insubstantial sentence.
