To think we should ban the term ‘globalise the intifada’

Dangeos · 15/12/2025 19:11

After the terrorist attacks in Manchester and now Bondi, I struggle to see how this term is anything other than a call to violence against Jews. We should be cracking down on it, in the same way we do other hate and violence inciting speech.

People may try to defend ‘intifada’ as a peaceful term but it’s about as effective as arguing that ‘jihad’ is.

People are generally overwhelmingly concerned with the instances when it is not.

Shouts of ‘globalise the jihad’ regularly being chanted on the streets of the U.K. would definitely cause concern.

It means resistance against occupation, so no, it shouldn’t be banned.

Would you have banned calling for resistance in any other situation where people were suffering because their occupiers are killing them?

It means resistance against occupation, so no, it shouldn’t be banned.

We should absolutely be banning calls for the kind of “resistance” that we witnessed on 7/10.

You think that should be globalised, do you?

Rape isn’t resistance.

Murdering children isn’t resistence.

Benjamin Netanyahu —

“So today I ask all of you to do two things, only two things: support Israel and fight antisemitism. They are one and the same.”.

“If you want to maintain your Jewish identity, then you have a stake in the State of Israel because Israel is the great guarantor of Jewish identity. If you’re interested in Jewish identity, support Israel.”

Gideon Sa’ar -
“When we are united — we are strong. I expressed my thanks for the backing that the Jewish communities give the State of Israel.”

Of course there are many more statements of this nature. These are just a few examples. Should Netanyahu and his ministers be applying for/assuming the support of foreign citizens for the actions of his government which they had no hand in electing? (and some of whom of course deeply oppose his policies).

It seems ethically pretty suspect and of course muddies the waters (purposefully one would assume) between legitimate criticism of Israel and horrible antisemitism - ie - you can’t criticise Israel and simultaneously call yourself a proud Jewish person/opposer of antisemitism, as supporting Israel’s policy and actions and opposing antisemitism are of course “one and the same” (Netanyahu)

Makes perfect sense to me. As always he is rallying around and protecting his own people. Such a shame that such are the massive inroads that radical Islam has taken, maybe even some Jews are scared to outwardly agree with him. Damned if they do damned if they don't. Jewish persecution isn't going anywhere and BN has held that consistent line for a long time. Unlike Starmer, at least he knows his identity and unity.

I agree. But by turns Israel, in “resisting” the threat of Hamas, has also murdered children (many many more than Hamas in fact, and not merely or predominantly as “collateral damage” either, unless you do not consider purposefully withholding food from a civilian population as a war crime, or the widespread destruction of the majority of hospitals with lifesaving facilities). And it has also engaged in widescale torture of detainees. So let’s be honest about the atrocities committed on both sides.

It is hard to understand how a self-identifying "good person", who considers themself very much on the right side of history, gets so wedded to a cause that they will try to justify any atrocity, no matter how hideous, if it is carried out by someone who they think is on their side.

And somehow continue to think of themself as a decent person. Olympics level mental gymnastics.

And the relevance to the Australia massacre?

Well it doesn’t does it if I haven’t got a clue what it is for.

And the relevance to the Australia massacre?

My comment was replying to another comment which was also not directly related to the Australian massacre (rather focusing on the atrocity Hamas committed on 7/10). The point simply being that it is necessary to strongly condemn all violence against civilians and against civlian populations, not just cherry pick what you get angry about. Whether the guilty party is Hamas terrorists, lunatics in other regions, or the Israeli government committing various atrocities against innocent Palestinians. Do you disagree?

HellsBalls · 16/12/2025 18:37

The problem is not the Jews, it’s radical Islam.
The barriers and armed police at the Christmas markets are not there to protect people from attacks by Jews.

But there are millions of Jewish people worldwide who dislike or even hate Netanyahu and the policies of Israel. What makes him think he has the right to assume to speak on behalf of Jewish people worldwide? The mere fact that they may share the same religion? Or similar ancestry? Even though many share none of his values, political ideology or worldview. Seems rather presumptuous.

Common denominator. Never has a useful indicator been so obliterated, that it's now an unspoken term. That's only a minutae of the problem with this particular sort of terrorism.

I was specifically responding to a poster who said that “globalise the intafada” was simply a call for resistance.

I have seen 7/10 described as resistence.

I think calling for the kind of resistence where children are killed and women are raped, should be banned.

Your comment is about something else entirely.

Israel are not framing their response to Hamas as “resistance”. There aren’t people out weekly calling for it to be “globalised”. And Muslims are not being executed by Jewish people in Western countries in response.

This so reminds me of the why every British citizen should denounce Farage because he appears to align with them. Until Islamic extremism is treated with the contempt it deserves, excuses will be wheeled out to blame anyone except the real danger. How many more innocent people have to be murdered before this finally sinks in. It's not the Right who are the danger, well except for the religious fanatics. The left are just enabling them and they don't even realise it.

Are you not concerned that maybe there's something a bit off if not only are people telling you you're racist, not only is MN is removing your posts (despite them allowing many really troubling ones to stand), but they've also given you a written warning about your conduct. Does it not occur to you that maybe you need to reflect, that maybe your position is not the correct position? I feel that if I was receiving written warnings, I'd be worried. I feel that if I couldn't fathom why everyone was calling me a bigot when I believed the things I posted to be completely fine, I'd be worried.

But you're definitely sure that you're the one in the right, and all the rest of everybody is in the wrong...?

I hope quite a few other obvious detractors have been given the warning, across these threads. Their agenda is more than clear. Bad faith, patronising posters who feign innocence, while gaslighting.

Of course they’re not framing it as a resistance as that would be a ridiculous term for a state with an annual military budget of $50 billion to use.

The point is that anyone who focuses only on the atrocity/atrocities committed on one side of the Israel/apalestine conflict rather than viewing each atrocity as part of a historical shitshow is only looking for one side to blame for the enduring mess. Got to have a villain. When in reality it’s a historical mess which needs both sides to do a near 180 from their current worldview to have any chance of peaceful coexistence.

When people sitting in warm safe middle class homes in the West begin and end there comment with emotive slogan using like “there’s no excuse for the murder of 20,000 Gazan children” or “there’s no excuse for the murder of Israel civilians” it’s just meaningless slogans, or attempted virtual signalling if you like. Two groups shouting at one another over a proverbial wall. They may as well just say “I think violence is usually bad most of the time” and be done with it. It adds nothing.

Israel is not Netanyahu's values, political ideology, worldview or the policies of the current government and that's not what your incredibly blinkered version of Israel means to Jews. But then you already know that.
He's not speaking on behalf of Jews worldwide, he's speaking to them.
