To think that antisemitism now needs to be tackled in the strongest possible way?

The Bondi thread in chat was eye opening.

Forty pages and a lot of it whataboutery, excuses and vile antisemitism.

It’s disgusting.

It needs to be called out. It needs to be rooted out.

I feel so sorry for the Jewish communities everywhere. How can they possibly feel safe?

Sorry how is it not being dealt with strongly already? I agree anti-semitism is awful but I honestly can’t see how the government/police aren’t already dealing with it harshly?

Do you not recall Jeremy Corbyn's faction of the Labour Party that were blatantly anti-semitic, yet the party did f-all about it, and would not challenge it. The cynical thought this was caused if not by sheer apathy, then because they cowardly overlooked it so as to appease a large Muslim block type vote for Labour.

Obviously I'm emotionally invested but even just logically I can't work out why people could possibly think Iran + Islamic Republic + the Taliban are the best option to support

You are wrong to think that is the alternative. Palestine would be more like Lebanon, where plenty of Muslims, Jews and Christians live in harmony.

You don't sound like you're supporting a two state solution here.

Corbyn has surrounded himself with antisemites for so long that he wouldn't recognise antisemitism if it slapped him in the face.

Because I’m told that’s what it was like before Isreal came into existence by people whose parents were there.

my great grandmother survived the pogrom in tzfat (safed). They found her neighbours stabbed to death in their home, after she and her family were smoked out of their home (it was set on fire), before escaping to a British mandate government building.
It was not peace and harmony pre 1948

I almost feel bad for starting this thread.

It must be utterly fucking (sorry for swearing) tiresome and soul destroying to be of Jewish descent and seeing the same shite trotted out every time.

Whataboutery, excuses, ignorance and blatant antisemitism .

Fuck me, there’s no hope is there?

@LucyWestenra its starting to feel like that.

I describe myself of Jewish descent- I don’t practice, I married a catholic and my children have no religious upbringing. Yet I’m still targeted by antisemitism and people blaming me for Israeli govt actions. I’ve never been to Israel and have no control over their government.

No. Not really.

I've reported several posts for Islamophobia too. It hasn't been great.

How would I know? I don't have a subscription. Haaretz aren't exactly known for objectivity, I'm sure they went out of their way to find an equally representative sample of the Israeli population to ask in a completely non biased or leading way.

I doubt very much that this would be the case. Lebanon today is nowhere the same as it was, thanks mainly to Hezbollah taking over the south of the country.

HappyFace2025 · 15/12/2025 20:51

Celestialmoods · 15/12/2025 20:02

Didn’t Haaretz report earlier this year that 82% of Israelis support the forced expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza?

Are people just supposed to stay quiet?

Haaretz is a left wing paper that opposes the right wing government in Israel. I'd take anything they report with a large pinch of salt just as I would a right-wing paper. Equivalent in the UK would be the Guardian and the Telegraph.

Thank you for this post OP.
Such pain.
Absolute rage that our wicked leaders are allowing this to happen.
Why can't Jewish people/ communities just be left the f* alone.
It's spiralling very quickly.
We know from history this is not going to end well.
Feel totally paralysed. Is this how it felt in the 1930s?
What can we do to help?

Hollar · 15/12/2025 21:01

Are there any organisations for Jewish allies?

Don’t feel bad. There are crazy antisemites and vehement supporters but it’s super important to find all the people in the middle who are open to learning and thinking. On good days I hope these sorts of threads help encourage that.

DestituteDesperate · 15/12/2025 21:07

I don’t expect anything better from radical Islamists but seeing white liberals facilitating it, is astonishing and astounding.

just look at any thread about Nigel Farage, some people don’t know anything besides what they’re told to think.

of course Jewish people will continue to be persecuted, the entire country is actively participating in antisemitism or too cowardly to stand up to it.

Mondaymorning567 · 15/12/2025 21:10

I am not Jewish and I have been appalled at the comments on the threads on here and under newspapers online. It is utterly horrific. The antisemitism is shocking. Is there anything that I as an individual can do which is useful? Are there places I could donate, or is it worth writing to an MP? I know it sounds useless, but I'm just so horrified, not just by the attacks on Jewish people, but by the responses of people. Is there anything practical I can do to make a difference?

PurpleThistle7 · 15/12/2025 21:11

I guess the only confusing and unsettling thing in my current reality is that I am constantly diametrically opposed to people I used to agree with. I have been on many marches for social and political issues and had always considered myself liberal / left / almost socialist maybe / vehement supporter of women’s rights and inclusivity and whatnot.

But now if I go on a pro choice march or an anti trump March or a women’s rights protest I’m confronted with a sea of Palestinian flags and I don’t understand it at all. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to work that out.

I cannot for the life of me understand how you’d bring Palestinian flags to trans rights’ marches - these causes are not friends. But they attract all the same people and it’s genuinely confusing.

I was shocked by this court verdict last week

https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/jury-finds-two-men-accused-of-khaybar-chant-not-guilty-of-inciting-racial-hatred/

Jewish communal organisations have expressed frustration after two men who allegedly chanted an infamous slogan citing the massacre of Jews were found by a jury to be not guilty of intent to stir up racial hatred.
Video footage from an anti-Israel demonstration in May 2021 near Hyde Park showed a group of men, part of a wider anti-Israel protest, chanting “Khaybar Khaybar, ya yahud, Jaish Muhammad soufa yaʿoud”. The chant translates as “Jews, remember the battle of Khaybar, the army of Muhammad will return”, and cites a 628 CE battle where Jewish tribes in Arabia were exterminated by Muslims

Like, how in the actual fuck is that not stirring up racial hatred?

Yes. Believe us. Teach the next generation. Donate to a Jewish cause that speaks to you. Show up at a public Chanukah event to lend your support. I wouldn’t want to presume to suggest specific donations but there are many.

mostly though just speak up when people say something stupid. I would like to believe it’s often ignorance and those are the people I try to reach.

This.

Personally, when people who are not Jewish speak up, it means so much. We’re a very small minority, and the more orthodox you get on the spectrum of religious observance, the less likely to have any kind of online vocal presence, meaning even fewer overall numbers of Jews who can stand up and call out antisemitism. And some are frightened; generational trauma lends itself to a culture of keeping your head below the parapet and not calling attention to yourself. When allies speak up, you lend your voice and your strength, and it makes us much less isolated.

Yuja · 15/12/2025 21:23

I’m Jewish and I am so upset by the anti-semitism creep that has been tolerated in this county. My grandmother is in her late 90s - still alive and very much with it. Her father was killed at Auschwitz and she escaped to the UK on the Kindertransport -one of the last living Kindertransport children here. And here she is, living through an uprising of Jewish hatred again, having people throw things at the window of her Jewish care home and shout threats outside. Almost a century of being hated for her race and religion. Reading this thread just shows that anti-semitism is going nowhere

This is really sad and shocking, and also perfectly illustrates the point. In this case, two men were literally going around chanting 'Jews, remember when you all got slaughtered by Mohammed's army' and the jury did not convict.

This is not 'criticising Israel', this is a clear anti-semitic threat just being treated as acceptable.

SunnyViper · 15/12/2025 21:34

I am u following this thread as its just an echo chamber with no debate.

Mischance · 15/12/2025 21:35

Antisemitism is fundamentally wrong. No question.

Criticizing the actions of a government that you feel is acting unacceptably is not wrong.

They are 2 different things.
