Would it bother you if one person wasn’t drinking at Christmas?

wakinginthenight · 15/12/2025 09:28

Dh and I do like to have a few drinks at Christmas and enjoy ourselves.
We are having Christmas at home just family and we all intend to have a good amount of drink, play a few silly party games, music and just let our hair down because it’s Christmas but there is one person who’ll be coming who has requested alcohol free beer as he’s not drinking.
He does drink, he’s just decided he won’t on this occasion.
I feel a bit miffed to be honest that we are all going to be drinking and one sober person will be sitting there watching.
I know IABU but I really wish they would not come if they are just going to sit there and remember everything, I don’t think it helps that they will be here all day and all night.

Called out? No one is being 'called out' we are being ranted at by someone making stuff up. You sound a bit unstable the more you go on not too unlike the OP, maybe you all started the drinks a little early.

The only person in violation of rules was you, the only person who needed to be deleted for bullying was you, the only person aggressively attacking people, making up stuff that wasn't written, calling people names and fighting is you.

Its mad when the person who comes in calling everyone names, breaking rules and getting deleted is always the same person claiming everyone else needs to 'be kind' by very much not being 'kind' at all.

Dh and I only drink at parties or on holidays so no drink problem at all.

So how would you feel if on a different social occasion someone got miffed with you for not drinking? Like you, everyone else gets to decide when they do or don't drink. And they can join in with the fun without being drunk.

Who will be caring for your young children while you’re getting shit faced? Does he not approve because you’re both putting drinking above the needs of your children?

That's what I thought. You can some drinks when taking cafe of small kids, but bit irresponsible to get shit faced

Sorry to say that you and your DH have drink problems.

That doesn't mean you're alcoholics but the only people that are ever bothered by people not drinking around them, are people who have drink problems.

Edited for spelling

This ☝️ You don’t like the idea of a sober person watching you drink. Very telling!

Please quote me on what I’ve made up. And where I’ve bullied anyone.

You’re upset because you’ve probably gone back through the OPs replies now and are questioning your first attacks. I’m clearly not the one who’s attacking or bullying here.

You’re accusing me of being drunk now because you can’t deal with the push back. How childish. Not that it’s any of your business but just to put your mind at ease, I’m most certainly not.

I can have the opinion that I’d rather not have someone in my home sitting there as a spectator.
I’m entitled to feel uncomfortable about their presence in those circumstances.

So why start the thread to ask?

I’m not going to report your post. Because I want it to stay visible and showcase how ridiculous you sound.

You told everyone to F off then called all mumsnetters see you next Tuesdays, as you didn't seem to like people disagreeing with you.

We plan on us all drinking, not one person just turning up to judge.
Good grief no wonder people do turn to drink.

And if someone doesn't drink they should be forced too it seems

Funnily enough nobody can quote you because (at the time of writing) you have had two posts deleted. I wonder why this has happened to you and no one else.

Literally calling people the C word... you have been deleted multiple times for breaking the rules which are there to stop bullying.

I'm not upset, your making that up as just one of the many random thing where you asserted a completely unjustified opinion as fact.

My opinions haven't changed in the slightest... I read all OP's posts and used them in my responses as did everyone else. Nothing has changed except you telling everyone else we are 'crying' and 'questioning' and 'childish' and 'C**ts' and victimizing the OP based on more made up accounts. Your making stuff up about people based on trying to put the down.

I said maybe you all started early because you are very aggressive defending your wrongness like a drunk person does same way OPs post come off to most reading like an alcoholic. If you're not impaired by drink then thats far more worrying frankly.

Well you where wrong though thats why EVERYONE disagreed even MN HQ.

You made an entire post to say the opposite of everyone else and you seem to think that should have changed anyone minds. It didn't, you spoke nonsense.

BestintheWest · 15/12/2025 18:58

OP I’m sorry for your pile on. They’re vultures. And I hope this exchange makes others think differently about their approach moving forward.

ToffeePennie · 15/12/2025 19:01

I don’t drink, it tastes vile, hits me like a truck and I generally don’t like it.
I can still let my hair down when I’m sober.

Lambington · 15/12/2025 19:02

This is the exact opposite of what Christmas is supposed to be about. Next time you hear some right wing nutter banging on about "judeo-christian values" on GB news - this is what they are probably talking about. Getting "shit faced".

Olderbutt · 15/12/2025 19:05

Gosh you really do have a problem! Fancy being of an age where people can come to yours for a party and all you want to do is get rat arsed! Are you 14 or 16 maybe?
It's perfectly possible to have an amazing time without alcohol you know! No, I am far from tee total but no way would I enjoy getting really drunk. What a waste!

FletchFan · 15/12/2025 19:05

I find people who don't drink a bit boring personally, but that's not a popular opinion on MN.
You're brave OP posting that on here.

MsSmartShoes · 15/12/2025 19:05

No one should ever be under pressure to do drugs or imbibe alcohol.

So what if you are drinking you can afford it. If op wants a drink then she should. If she was the biological mother the responses would be different. They would be telling him to take a hike.
