Shocked by my colleague’s reply to me

I’m a teacher and went out for a couple of drinks last night as a department Christmas get together. I was a bit late so they’d already been drinking. I drove there and someone was driving like an idiot really close behind me which I mentioned when I arrived. Another teacher said that’s probably not the first man who has tried to get close to my rear end. Lots of laughter. AIBU to find that quite shocking given the audience?

It’s interesting the amount of women who let men speak to them like that. I’ve followed this post in the hopes some strong women will come out and have the ops back. Sadly, its all the little doormats who would never question a drunk, twat of a man.

@Jenni89 incase I’m lost in the stepford wives. I’d be offended.

I'm neither a doormat nor a weak woman

If a man made an actually sexual comment to me, I'd call him out

If a man made this innuendo to me, I'd reply with something like "well you'd never get close" or "a bet a few have been near yours"

Don't tell me he got her pronouns wrong as well.

Ha no! Well I don’t know. It’s the body that can strike you off as a teacher.

I know that really. Just usually means something else on here and amused me.😊

Are you suggesting that any woman who isn't shocked or offended if someone made that comment to them isn't a strong woman or that they're a doormat? Really? Misogynistic much? Way to police how women should feel or react.

Got it in one! Just because the op is offended she’s been called loads of names.

Your bar maybe be low. You may let people speak to you like a butt of a joke. I personally don’t. Not my colleagues. Not my boss. No one. Sorry you find that so difficult.

Don’t mention the word "body"!

Threads like this make me so greatful for my work colleagues and everyone i know for that matter. We always have a laugh and a joke and nobody gets offended its relaxing and fun. Its a great way to live life. Your way sounds stressful and miserable

WearyAuldWumman · 13/12/2025 23:10

It is crass, but I've known worse to come from teachers. (I taught in secondary for 40 yrs.)

I stopped going to the end of term Christmas do because the behaviour could become quite atrocious. The last time I went to the Christmas meal, I hurried home after the coffee because my late husband was poorly.

On the first day back at work, I found out that the staff middle-aged lech had hit on a young woman. Her boyfriend had taken exception and aimed a punch at him.

The lech moved out the way and it connected with a probationer teacher...

and who do you think you are calling people doormat, weak and stepford wives because they don't get offended for no reason? Being bitter doesn't give you the right to start insulting everyone else, go away. No one cares that you are offended 😂

3luckystars · 14/12/2025 01:04

Shocked, are you really shocked though?

Just wondering, (nothing to do with the pub perv) and I hope it’s ok I ask you this, but do you really think being a teacher is a stressful as the emergency services ?

I don’t think so, no. But I'm not in any of those professions so I can’t judge or say on that.

the teachers themselves that I know always do seem to be very stressed and talk about their stress a LOT. I know 2 who have attempted suicide due to MH issues exacerbated by their jobs and no help from their SLT’s. Obviously they are not in such immediate danger as emergency services attending incidents, but I know several who have been physically attacked by pupils.

Tunnocksmallow · 14/12/2025 01:17

I’d probably have winked and said thanks.
but then I’m not offended by everything that anybody says!

Because it's acceptable to call people names on MN if they don't follow the so called "sisterhood" idea that everything men do is trash

Member869894 · 14/12/2025 01:36

You are very easily shocked...

SouthernNights59 · 14/12/2025 02:14

EchoedSilence · 13/12/2025 16:08

It was a joke. No need to get offended by every bloody thing.

This! Honestly, I really don't know how some MNers deal with the world in general. It was just a joke, and very far from being "shocking"

WinterWooliesBaa · 14/12/2025 03:05

🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Pricelessadvice · 14/12/2025 06:47

I’d have smiled and winked. Drunken joke.
Move on, life’s short.

Why am I bitter? Why are you saying go away? I’m guessing it’s because I’ve said something which has offended you. How funny.

I didn’t ask you to care if I was offended. I told the op she wasn’t the only one who would have found a colleague making that comment offensive.

PollyPlumPeach · 14/12/2025 07:23

GreenCandleWax · 13/12/2025 16:58

Boys will be boys, eh? Why do so many women make excuses for them?

She didn't say it was a male who made the joke

pouletvous · 14/12/2025 07:55

If you’re 18 and he’s 58, that would he weird but otherwise just laugh it off

Valeriekat · 14/12/2025 08:33

I'd be far more shocked that they were driving while apparently over the limit!

Valeriekat · 14/12/2025 08:36

Oops, the tail-gating driver wasn't a colleague.
