Not fat shaming I’m very overweight myself and not been a healthy weight for a long time so can’t even imagine what I would look like at a healthy weight

People who use WLi have rapid weight loss and it results in a similar look.

the poster was taking about both WLI and rapid weight loss (7 stone in 15 months)

Some do, not all

taxguru · 12/12/2025 19:01

I've lost several stone after being obese from being a teenager. Not only do I feel a lot better, I know I look better and my self confidence has sky-rocketed. I no longer hide away in a corner and try to avoid people - I now have the confidence to stand proud, happy to meet new people, etc. People I know have said I have a kind of "glow" about me and that my entire persona has changed with the weight loss.

molifly · 12/12/2025 19:02

I can weigh more, still within a healthy BMI but look fat.

Squirrelsnut · 12/12/2025 19:03

I do. My face is currently a bit chubby and it's much more conventionally attractive with more definition. Good health signalled by a healthy weight is attractive generally.
Oh well.

gogomomo2 · 12/12/2025 19:03

I look best a little overweight as my face looks better, less wrinkled

Bambamhoohoo · 12/12/2025 19:04

Daisywhatsyouranswer · 12/12/2025 18:53

You are incredibly defensive.

yes, I am unsure why the method of weight loss is relevant though. The reality is I did not look good obese. I simply didn’t. Few do look their best obese. My face was fat. I had jowls. And no one looks at your face alone. Usually a fat face is atop a fat body, matronly bust. Big belly, wobbly thighs. I never once thought wow I look great like this, which doesn’t mean fat people can’t look good. Simply I didn’t. That’s nothing to do with my method of weight loss, I am being honest, I didn’t feel I looked my best obese.

the op asked do people look the best at a healthy weight, and my observation is yes, neither under weight or over weight is optimal, and that people look at the whole person.

How can I be defensive? I’ve been a BMI of 20.6 my entire adult life. What’s to be defensive about?

it’s up to you whether you think better now, no one is taking that away from you. The question was whether “people” look better and I am suggesting most people just look pretty average to others.

RaininSummer · 12/12/2025 19:04

I think I would easily look ten years older as my face would get thin and possibly droopy

seanconneryseyebrow · 12/12/2025 19:07

I get for most of us ‘healthy weight’ is good but what about those of us who are atypical? Eg my beauirful SIL has a skinny face and torso but very large hips and bum. She is technically morbidly obese. If we have a selfie side by side just our faces I’m all cheeks (I’m a size 10) and she looks like she’s a size 8.

I on the others d have a very thin middle. Extreme hourglass. Chunky legs and arms and face. Huge norks. But middle - not an ounce of fat on me after 4 kids. I was rushed to a&e and saw my notes o ce and it said I was ‘moderately overweight’. I was in a gown of course but that is what they thought. I was a BMI of 21 at the time.

my point is ‘healthy weight’ can be deceiving and depending on weight distribution. Surely at a BMI of 21 I shouldn’t have thighs covered in cellulite but I do cos it’s where all my weight goes.

are you sure you mean morbidly obese ie a BMI of over 40?

because if she was say a fairly averaged height white woman (5ft6) she’d have to weigh at least 18 stone to be morbidly obese. How can that loooks like a size 8 even with a large hips and bum?

Crystallllll · 12/12/2025 19:11

Some people put a lot of effort in their appearance and have a great presence, even if they are overweight (shocker) So not always the case. Of course it is healthier to be within the correct bmi. But not essential to look their best.

GaIadriel · 12/12/2025 19:16

Catza · 12/12/2025 17:40

I don't know... I used to work with this gorgeous voluptuous woman who looked 100 times more put together than me on an average day. So I am not entirely sure how much weight matters in terms of "looking your best". Extreme outliers excluded, of course.

But this isn't an example of somebody 'looking their best'. It's an example of somebody looking better than another person despite carrying a little extra weight.

Also, voluptuous doesn't mean overweight. Scarlett Johansson and Kelly Brook aren't overweight.

No way they look as good in a bikini if overweight.

seanconneryseyebrow · 12/12/2025 19:20

bambamhoho

she is 4’11” (i know) and looks a size 8 next to me in pics if it’s just our faces and boob level I swear. She told me she was morbidly obese. I’m 5’9. It’s a family trait - all their weight goes on lower tummy hips and bum. I mean it is extreme tbf but from waist up she looks way slimmer than me!

YourTruthorMine · 12/12/2025 19:24

No my husband had to put a stone back on, after losing it. everyone thought he was ill. Some people look better slightly overweight, it's healthier too as you age

cramptramp · 12/12/2025 19:28

Depends on their age. Anyone my age (old) who is their ‘healthy’ weight always looks older imo. But only because their faces aren’t plumped out with fat so they have more wrinkles.

LossOfMarbles · 12/12/2025 19:32

I’m in my 50s and BMI has gone from 32 to 22. Everyone says I look younger. My chins have gone, body fairly firm. My boobs look older though, like a couple of deflated balloons 😩

My friend is a lot larger and beautiful. I can’t imagine her being improved by being thin.

It’s difficult to know which pictures are the most recent but Kelly Brook certainly looks overweight.

Having seen her on the Jungle, I know the camera adds 10lbs, but I think Kelly Brook is overweight. She looks great though.

CleverButScatty · 12/12/2025 19:53

Yawn.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/12/2025 17:08

I looked awful at my ‘healthy weight’ I was far too thin.

I doubt you were far too thin with a BMI just below overweight.

What age is “old”?

BringBackCatsEyes · 12/12/2025 19:59

I think women of reproductive age are most fertile at a healthy weight, thus they look at their ‘best’ so they can attract a partner.

BringBackCatsEyes · 12/12/2025 20:02

The whole thing about old and thin people looking haggard and older than their peers gets a bit tiresome.
I think it might hold some truth for people who have lost a significant amount of weight but for people who have always been slim, I don’t they they look older than their age.

Dmsandfloatydress · 12/12/2025 20:05

I think as you get older a large weight loss makes you look do much older as your face melts like a candle. However, it's much better for your health

ForeverScout · 12/12/2025 20:28

"Matronly bust" 😂I had one of those by 15, at a very healthy weight. I swear I could lop them off tomorrow and go from a bit overweight to healthy BMI in an instant. Hence why I think BMI is a bit of a have really. Doesn't count muscles or boobs or bone density or constipation or fluid retention or menstrual cycle or time of day or anything else relevant to determining healthy weight ...
