What age did you have your kids?

What age did you have your kids and would you say it was before, bang on or over average age wise?

OP posts:

25, 27, 32.

32 is bang on average for first DC around here.

25 I was too old to be a ‘young mum’ and too young to be an average mum - none of the ‘average’ mums wanted anything to do with me either it seemed! Was living in a less friendly area though too.

Having said 32 is average, actually in my group about half of my school friends don’t have kids yet and we’re 36 now. So 32 may be still on the young side!

QuiltPlantCandle · 12/12/2025 14:42

I was 27 and 29 when my kids were born around the turn of the century. This was on the young side. The majority of parents of my children's friends were older than me.

35 and 37. Older than average but perfect for me. No issues and I don't feel particularly tired. Noone mentioned the word geriatric.

FluffyBox · 12/12/2025 14:49

27 (almost 28) and 31. Right time for me
and best of both worlds I felt for me.

Felt like I’d enjoyed most of my 20’s so wasn’t missing out and equally I’d still have my own time and life back when they were older as I would still be relatively ‘young’.

First at 24 and second at 29. Probably on the young side for our first but it was the right time for us. We are now mid 40s with a 22 year old and 17 year old which is lovely. I wouldn’t have liked to be doing the primary school run now.

Seasidegrandma · 12/12/2025 14:55

24 and 25, they were 16 months apart. I had planned on 18 months between them, so only a couple of months out

smallsilvercloud · 12/12/2025 14:56

22, 28 and 30 between 2002 and 2011, younger than average for first but for the other two about average

NannyOgg1341 · 12/12/2025 14:57

23 and 27. I'd already bought a house with (my now) DH and we were both right at the start of our careers. Even though I didn't feel young at the time, I look back and can't believe how skint and shattered we both were for our first baby. However, now they're all older, it's nice that we're finally established in our work but still young enough to really go out and enjoy things.

Prelim · 12/12/2025 14:57

All were between 35-45 where I live, so similar ages and experiences.

DisappointedD · 12/12/2025 14:58

I was 23 and 29. I think the first was younger then average, second one very average. I do wish I had them closer together in either direction.

Kim82 · 12/12/2025 15:01

19, 22, 25 and 32. I was in young for the first 2 or 3 and I’d say average for number 4.

First 2 were with my ex, second 2 with dh.

AlwaysADramaHadEnough · 12/12/2025 15:03

22 33 38
By far was easier at 22.

Endofyear · 12/12/2025 15:04

19, 22, 25, 27 and 29! Basically spent a decade of my life pregnant or breastfeeding 😂 I started quite young and finished before I was 30 which is probably youngish these days.

sunshineandshowers21 · 12/12/2025 15:05

16, 22, 26, 28. average in my area, but definitely way below average in most areas i’d imagine!

  1. Easy pregnancy, no difficulty conceiving. I know I was very fortunate.
jinn2025 · 12/12/2025 15:24

33 & 36

30 and 33. Hoping for another in the next couple of years (I’m 34 and have 6 embryos on ice)

Instructions · 12/12/2025 15:27

24, 27 and 33

I found the last pregnancy so much harder. Physically the toll was huge. I found parenting a newborn so much easier with him, but that's probably because I had had experience of 2 already rather than because I was a little older

There is no right age. Do it young and you have more energy and physically it is easier. Do it older and you have more life experience and probably more stability. I know women who became mothers for the first time as teenagers and women who had their first baby in their 40s- I haven't seen anything to make me believe one age is objectively better than the other.

ScrambledEggs12 · 12/12/2025 15:28

33 and 35 which is well above average in the area I live in.

Catnanna · 12/12/2025 15:44

28 & 29. We had been married for 5 years and decided time was right. Had youngest arrived on time I’d have had 2 under 1.

Papyrophile · 12/12/2025 15:45

Another fortunate example. I conceived instantly and naturally at 42, had an easy pregnancy and uncomplicated delivery, just before my 43rd birthday. But it only worked once!

ImaginaryLobster · 12/12/2025 15:46

37 and I still would like 1 more

user593 · 12/12/2025 15:46

35 & 39, which I suspect is older than average (although less so in London where I am).
