I never know round here anymore 🤣🤣

😁

JetSkiRentals · 09/12/2025 20:27

More money than us and we’re quite well off. We don’t have new cars or designer handbags. (£100k+ combined annual income.)

I did have a friend who always had new cars etc and it was all PCP or credit and that amount of borrowed spending would make me feel uncomfortable.

Snakehips47 · 09/12/2025 20:33

Feel sorry for them having all of that money to repay for many years to come.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 09/12/2025 20:37

This thread is amazing! So many posters falling over themselves to say how they would NEVER live in a new build, drive a new car, have a designer handbag etc as they are simply too middle class for such things.
The posters saying OP must be boring, a wannabe or Hyacinth Bucket are hilarious - all of you are clearly far more concerned with appearing middle class than OP is.

MY DH is a brickie - works just 3 days a week now cos of ill health

I work 20 hours a week in a NMW job that suits be due to MH issues

MY DH works for a multi millionaire

My Dh drives a newer / higher spec car to his boss

I also drive a pretty good car, never older then 5 years old before I change

We have a bloody great big house on a 3rd of an acre - mortgage free and have been since our 40's

What other people think of us never bothers us in the slightest. We owe not one penny and we owe no one an explanation

We have worked hard, we have saved, we dont spend more then we can afford

We arent at the stage where we can afford to turn left on entering a plane . nor take a round the world cruise, but hey ho, we spend our money where it suits us

We all ( our social group ) rib each other about it being hard to hide the money when a new car is bought - which for us happens a lot as we ( all ) like our cars

I dont have many clothes, nor does DH, he likes RL, I buy from wherever , but they are well kept , look good , our shoes have money spent on them as does my bed and linens

We "appear' to be more affluent then we are . We live comfortably on very little

Just smile and say - yep its hard to hide the money - and forget about it

Kindly, I'd hardly say 2k savings a month is ample. Are you able to retrain to earn more? Take in ironing? Odd jobs? Dog walking? Anything to get those savings pumped up into a more acceptable and actual ample amount.

2k savings a month isn’t a lot?
Are you mad? Some people can’t save a penny! I think 25k a year is pretty good!!

Atina321 · 09/12/2025 20:56

As long as everyone is happy and healthy I couldn’t care less what they own.

ELMhouse · 09/12/2025 21:13

I’m a little jealous by how you can save, spend that much on a car and have recently bought a new house (unless you have a long mortgage),

my husband and I earn quite a bit more than you and your DH, we live in a cheaper house we bought 15 years ago (so mortgage up in five years), DD is at uni I suppose so takes up a lot of our savings. But I could never have £25k to spend on a car without wiping out a massive chunk of savings. And having £2k spare for savings each month. I’m intrigued to know your secret.

Sally2791 · 09/12/2025 21:25

Thoughts- not interested in that life, they can do whatever they want

BCBird · 09/12/2025 21:26

Would not feature on my radar at all.

Flatulence · 09/12/2025 21:27

I'd think they were either extremely fortunate with very good salaries/low mortgage/inheritance etc., OR they were in debt up to their eyeballs with a lifestyle built on sand.

Beyond that, I'd think nothing and honestly wouldn't care; it's none of my business how people choose to spend their money.

Superfoodcrisps · 09/12/2025 21:30

Regarding the levelling ‘comments’ I had loads of these over the years (now mid fifties - they peaked when I was in my thirties to early forties). Statements that make their assessment of our financial situation quite obvious. In nearly all cases wrong. What can you say? Nothing. They are usually just trying to level themselves up, being nosey (hoping you will confirm or correct) or simply being financially naïve. Quite a few have come from neighbours…

HangerLaneGyratorySystem · 09/12/2025 21:32

gemful · 09/12/2025 18:55

I could take on an evening role I suppose…

I can't tell if @DoubleHardBastard is serious ... but obviously get a really nice iron if you're taking in laundry.

Studyunder · 09/12/2025 21:37

High earners who think they’re average/slumming it with everyone else

Stucknstoopit · 09/12/2025 21:49

My first thoughts are none. None thoughts.
second thoughts is bland. Bland and bang average.
whats the issue?

Londonrach1 · 09/12/2025 21:50

No one think anything about them as they just busy living their own lives

Penisbeakeralltheclassics · 09/12/2025 21:51

Zov · 09/12/2025 20:18

I never said that RICH people aren't flash. I said middle class people - actual genuine middle class/upper middle class people aren't. They don't need to be as they have got nothing to prove.

It's the wannabes who are desperate to prove they are 'considerably richer than YOU' who are the ones who present as 'flash,' and spend spend spend to try and make out they're something they're not. Often getting wildly into debt, to get as much flash shit they can get, because they think people will be impressed.

You sound annoyed. Did I hit a raw nerve?

.

Edited

Oh good grief, I know some very flash, VERY wealthy people, that shock horror, come from money and are firmly upper middle. They are just people!

Elsvieta · 09/12/2025 21:53

Thoughts about what? Their character? Income? Taste in home furnishings, what?

I mean, if she's a sahm and he's a binman I might wonder what's going on with the finances. If they're both about 60 and the kids are small, I might wonder what's going on there. But otherwise - what am I supposed to think?

slackspot · 09/12/2025 21:53

I don't think anything, sounds bang average.

Friendlyfart · 09/12/2025 22:12

seems normal to me where I live.

lucyloo25 · 09/12/2025 22:20

Nothing as its none of my business, why?

Evaka · 09/12/2025 22:26

2k savings a month isn’t a lot?
Are you mad? Some people can’t save a penny! I think 25k a year is pretty good!!

Think they're making fun of all the mental 'jobs' people suggest on here when people say they're skint.

wineosaurusrex · 09/12/2025 22:26

i wouldn't notice anything about what brands their stuff is. Not something i ever notice or care about!

Outside9 · 09/12/2025 22:31

I wouldnt think anything at all.

At most I'd think you're not very financially savvy. But everyone can waste their money however they see fit.
