Lost Xmas food

Xmas nostalgia has been bad this weekend - why will someone not bring back mignons morceaux, cheese moments, worcester sauce crisps, cream and cheesy niknaks and those massive KP bignuts

It really is not Xmas without them!

Bottle shaped liqueur chocolates in TK Maxx at the minute. A couple of varieties.

i just want a mignon morceaux

I loved these too. I have recently discovered Maretti bruschette chips and the roasted garlic ones are the closest I’ve found to mignon morceaux. They’re not as small and possibly not quite as garlicky, but they’re not at all bad, especially with a glass of something cold and fizzy. My local corner shops all seem to have them, although I’ve never seen them in a supermarket. You might be able to get them online I think. Worth a try?

Diversion · 08/12/2025 22:36

Also my Mum's trifle. Nobody could make a trifle quite like her. Presented in its beautiful glass bowl which I inherited (claimed because of precious memories) and is which now lovingly stored on a very safe shelf in the cupboard and saved for very special occasions. She would bring it in her shopping basket, covered in cling film, don her apron and then produce it like magic out of the basket to be placed in the fridge until later and then I would get shouted at for pinching one of the glace cherries off the top.

For anyone else who misses mignons morceaux, these are exactly like them:

Sorry - just realised you already shared about these! They’re worth a double recommend to m m lovers though I reckon 😊

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 08/12/2025 22:40

Be careful what you wish for. My DH kept saying how he loved cheesy footballs and always had them as a kid but I could never find any in our local shops, then one year I spotted them and bought him a big tub. They’d changed the recipe and they were horrible .

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 08/12/2025 22:47

My mum used to make marzipan fruits.

Love the little liqueur chocolates in the bottle shape - I used to buy these for my dad.
I used to like Terry’s All Gold and Black Magic. Mum used to like dark chocolate so I think I got the taste from her. I’ve got an old Black Magic box with sewing stuff in and the fillings it’s showing on there are very different to the ones now. I bought myself a box a year or so back and they were disgusting.

Coffee creams and a packet of Sobranie, dad’s standard Christmas present from my aunt, a cigarette to match your dress! Bloody awful fags, actually, but they looked incredibly sophisticated.

Ooh Sobranie cigarettes - thought they were so sophisticated! There were the pastel coloured ones and the black ones. Love coffee creams too.

York fruits - jelly sweets with a weird hard capsule of fruity liquid in the middle
jelly orange & lemon slices
Weekend chocolate boxes
Tunis cake and Dundee cake

Tesco does Tunis cake!!

I usually get a box of Marzipan fruits from one of the kids at Christmas. I think they get them at M&S? I love them. And the best bit is no one else does I get them all.

I buy them from Waitrose, and they actually count as one of your five a day at Christmas 😁

PrimalScreaming · 08/12/2025 23:09

I've been looking for Maple Brazils and can't find them anywhere! They used to be pretty hard to find, but are now non-existent. Charbonnel & Walker did some (for a price) and Fortnum & Mason did some for an even higher price....But I haven't even seen those this year.
They were my Mum's favourite and I just fancied a few in her memory.

Terry’s Neapolitans

I still miss these too. What were they thinking when they discontinued them? 🙁

Pastel ones, but Omg, rough as! Like smoking Marlborough red!

That brings back a memory of the late 60s. Mother used to have a silver cigarette case and when she and father went to smart parties/functions, she used to colour co-ordinate the fags with what she was wearing. I can see her now saying goodnight, sitting on the edge of my bed, in a deep pink frock and a beehive with matching deep pink little roses in the hair sections. The cigarette case would have contained pink sobranies.

AutumnLover1989 · 09/12/2025 07:35

You can still get those jelly orange and lemon slices in B&M.

I googled it and it forgot about these. I remember them years ago.
Philips Fogg (garlicky crouton style) crisps 😋

Terry’s All Gold used to have a lemon barrel chocolate that I would bite the top off and ‘drink’ the contents. They were so lovely back in the day.

Bernadinetta · 09/12/2025 18:19

Garden centres or farm shops are good for these types of things. I was thinking of this thread today walking round a garden centre looking at marzipan fruits, various chocolate/sugar coated nuts, lots of different liquorice (school chalk anyone?), the crystallised fruits with the liquid centres and lots of varieties of bruschetta type crackers.

You’re in good company- The late Queen loved Charbonnel and Walker!

Gardetto’s Garlic Rye Crisps. Not quite the same but if you liked mignon morceaux, it’s about the closest you can get. Or garlic Melba toasts.
