Xmas nostalgia has been bad this weekend - why will someone not bring back mignons morceaux, cheese moments, worcester sauce crisps, cream and cheesy niknaks and those massive KP bignuts

It really is not Xmas without them!

@INeedAnotherAlibi Asda used to do a copy of SL gateau - worth seeing if they still do

Sadly I can’t eat wheat any more so I don’t think I’d be able to have that either!

I can't find sugared almonds anymore. Where have they gone?

The best ones are from Fortnum & Mason. I’m not a regular shopper (I wish!) but I have done detailed research into sugared almonds, and they do the best ones.

i just want a mignon morceaux

From t’internet - make your own:
Ingredients

  • Bread: 1 French baguette or similar crusty bread, a few days old works well.
  • Fat: 3 tablespoons olive oil and 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (or 6 tbsp olive oil if you prefer).
  • Garlic: 3-4 cloves fresh garlic, minced, or 2 teaspoons garlic powder.
  • Seasoning:
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more for finishing
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the bread: Cut the baguette into small, uniform cubes or thin slices, depending on your preference for the final shape. Place the pieces in a large bowl.
  3. Prepare the seasoning mixture: In a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter (if using) and heat with the olive oil. Add the minced garlic and cook for a minute or two over low heat until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic, as this will make it bitter.
  4. Season the bread: Drizzle the garlic-oil mixture over the bread cubes/slices. Add the parsley, oregano/Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Toss gently with your hands or a spoon to ensure every piece is evenly coated.
  5. Bake: Spread the seasoned bread pieces in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes, stirring or flipping the pieces occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy throughout.
  6. Cool and store: Remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack. They will become even crispier as they cool. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
Enjoy, OP!

It was the Punjabi Puri I preferred to MM

M&S do lovely Worcester Sauce crisps - very strongly flavoured

shellyleppard · 08/12/2025 15:15

@Defiantly41 York fruits are on sale in Iceland....
Possibly home bargains too

BaronessBomburst · 08/12/2025 15:19

@SellYourBooksAnton Berg do bottle-shaped liqueur chocolates. They're really nice! You can get them in Lidl or on Amazon.

DarkEyedSailor · 08/12/2025 15:49

Romantica frozen gateau
Worcester sauce Twiglets (or even Twiglets as they used to be)

SocksAndTheCity · 08/12/2025 15:57

I suspect it's the cocoa prices, but I've tried to get dark chocolate brazils and also dark chocolate florentines this week and they are very scarce compared to the milk chocolate ones.

I can order them online if I want to spend a fortune, but other years I've just walked in any supermarket and bought them.

IdaGlossop · 08/12/2025 15:59

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 07/12/2025 22:03

Terry’s Neapolitans

Thank-you for reminding me. I loved them!

Lidl for both.

I'm not entirely convinced the M&S big mix tin thing actually exists, our local ones have the peppermint bark and some ungodly concoction involving cold popcorn, but the chocolate selection tins are nowhere to be seen.

SellYourBooks · 08/12/2025 10:32

I liked those chocolate liqueurs that were bottle shaped. The liquid would kind of crystallise near the top. Mmmmm! Also those lovely shiny wrappers on the strawberry creams in the tin…

Does anyone remember getting Toffos in their selection box stocking thing? Lovely fruity toffees. That whole stocking, actually. It had a Marathon, Mars (?), Toffos, Opal Fruits… am I remembering correctly?

Aldi have done three festive liqueurs this year. Blood Orange flavoured Gin Liqueur, Honey Flavoured Rum Liqueur and Toffee Flavoured Vodka Liqueur

SocksAndTheCity · 08/12/2025 16:10

Thanks @Gliblet but I don't have a Lidl anywhere near me. I did get some florentines from Aldi one year but they were miniscule (although better than nothing - might be worth a look) Smile

I can confirm I've also tried to get the M&S Big Mix chocolate tin and had no luck. The others have shrunk so much I was determined not to buy them this year.

My mum used to get Terry's Old Masters chocolate liqueurs, and Buttered Brazils every year. I used to sneak one of the liqueurs and thought I was very sophisticated. The hard candy around the Brazil nuts was gorgeous.

I lament the demise of M&S Potato Deltas. Little triangular salty cross between a crisp and a cracker. They were delish.

I loved them , but now I can’t risk huge dental bills, so never have them, or chocolate brazils either!

HeyThereDelila · 07/12/2025 23:54

York Fruits still exist - the ones with the juice centre are called Newberry Fruits. My DGM always lamented their demise - then a few years ago I found them in an old fashioned sweet shop! They still exist @Defiantly41

I wish they’d bring Newberry fruits back in the supermarkets!

RosesAndHellebores · 07/12/2025 23:12

Proper Roses chocolates with jewel shiny wrappers that came in a tin.

M&S Grand Marnier Chocolate Log

Roses chocolates now taste 🤮
Cheap nasty chocolate! And no hard caramel ones 😪 Travesty.

I had a craving for coffee Matchmakers last week. Thought I'd treat myself and found they don't do them any more. Bugger.

We used to have a box of Matchmakers in our stocking every year when the box was long and thin and not square.

Thornton do bags of coffee creams, and Beeches coffee creams were in Iceland (the shop) last year but I got the news too late and they were all gone. 😮‍💨

JohnBullshit · 08/12/2025 16:38

I like the M&S Worcester Sauce crisps, and the revived Walkers ones are fine, as in perfectly acceptable for occasional consumption. I find the Seabrooks ones a bit fiery for my taste. Gingery almost. No.
Really, I'm only here to denounce the criminal downgrading of Quality Street and Roses. Corporations have no respect for culture.

Maybe GB has different stock, but here in Ireland there’s Walker’s Lea and Perrin’s crisps in 6 packs. Dreadfully moreish.
(Funny now I think of it: since they no longer offer L&P Worcester Sauce online (only way I have of getting groceries), just their own version which seems to contain genuine seaside sand. Rank.)

Hemax1 · 08/12/2025 16:49

Has anyone seen any marzipan fruits? I used to love them eapecially the way they were decorated!

Have seen cheesy nik naks recently and bought a Tunis cake from Tesco a week or so ago ( with marzipan fruits on top ! )

Babycham liqueur chocolates. We would get a small bottle of babycham or the chocolates in our Christmas stocking.

worcester sauce crisps

They have brought them back. Multipacks currently available in Tesco - and probably in other supermarkets. Had a bag for my lunch today 😋

zingally · 08/12/2025 16:59

I had a packet of cheesy niknaks today!

IIRC, they came from Home Bargains a month or so ago. Honestly, I didn't really like them. But I LURVE the purple rib n saucy flavour!
