Lost Xmas food

Xmas nostalgia has been bad this weekend - why will someone not bring back mignons morceaux, cheese moments, worcester sauce crisps, cream and cheesy niknaks and those massive KP bignuts

It really is not Xmas without them!

@INeedAnotherAlibi Asda used to do a copy of SL gateau - worth seeing if they still do

York fruits - jelly sweets with a weird hard capsule of fruity liquid in the middle
jelly orange & lemon slices
Weekend chocolate boxes
Tunis cake and Dundee cake

M&S and Tesco both have a Tunis cake this year, there's been a bit of a resurgence

My local milkman has York Fruits and Orange and Lemon slices in their Christmas food section (Milk and More).
You can also get them on Amazon, but they are much cheaper from the Milkman.

Chiefangel · 08/12/2025 07:20

I miss Mingles chocolates made by Benedict’s I think. They were lovely.

This thread reminds me of my old username Grin

I was really excited to see the walkers worcester sauce crisps were back but they don't have the strong taste of the old version. Seabrooks ones do though.

York Fruits are in Home Bargains 350g £2.49.

My husband loved Mignon Morceaux :) I miss the old Quality Streets from the 1970s and 1980s. My nan loved the coffee cream, which apparently they've just brought back, and would always swap me with the strawberry cream or toffee penny. This year is the first year I've not bought any Quality Street or Roses as I hate the wrappers and the chocolate just doesn't taste the same.
If I could bring back any Christmas food, it would be the proper tubs of mixed fruit and nuts - these days you have to buy at least 6 different packs and put them in your own jar to get anywhere near as good a selection as you did back in the day (I'm so old! LOL). In the 1980s, they'd come in a big, plastic tub with a screw on lid and you knew Christmas was close when they got opened!

Oh, and I always remember there being an orange and lemon fruit jelly slice box around this time of year -just had a look and you can still get them - but I just know I'm going to buy them and be disappointed! (still going to do it though).

Butterflyball · 08/12/2025 08:25

It's not the same Christmas without romantica for dessert......ooh how I miss that!

OilyRoundTheCogs · 08/12/2025 09:06

@CoolKoala Oooh, thanks for this. I love Tunis cake but I think my family think I made it up!

Contraryjane · 08/12/2025 09:10

I can't find sugared almonds anymore. Where have they gone?

I got some from our local garden centre last week. The brand was Joy Box

My sil gave me a Tunis cake the other day that someone had given her (discounted at the supermarket) that she wasn't going to eat. It was lovely

I used to love them, could easily eat the whole packet, don’t think they were very good for the teeth though. I still look for them in shops. I saw scampi fries in Tesco, not seen them for years, but they were £1 a packet and there were only about 8 inside.

Happyjoe · 08/12/2025 09:43

Ponoka7 · 07/12/2025 20:37

There still is Worcester sauce crisps? I'd like edible cheap chocolate back, not the claggy poor excuses, we have today. Oh and Asda's orange Irish cream.

Baileys have a terry's choc orange one this year, saw in the supermarket. If that helps?! :-)

Happyjoe · 08/12/2025 09:45

For me it's a bag of brazil nuts, the ones in shells. They've been steadily going over the years, I guess because the forests are all being chopped down. That was such a yum xmas treat, cracking them under a tea towel to try and stop shells pinging everywhere!

Saaaaammmme - what happened to Phineas Fogg and his garlicky delights? The perfect snack!

Everything coffee flavoured please. As a 90’s kid, I remember coffee creams in your tin of Roses, coffee flavour Matchmakers and a coffee Vienetta.

I had a craving for coffee Matchmakers last week. Thought I'd treat myself and found they don't do them any more. Bugger.

We used to have a box of Matchmakers in our stocking every year when the box was long and thin and not square.

IsItSnowing · 08/12/2025 10:25

I used to like mignon morceau too. I remember being allowed to have a couple of the liqueur chocs at xmas. I don't really like them anymore but it was great at the time.
I really hate Terry's choc orange for some reason and those jelly fruits so I don't miss those.

Crazeechick · 08/12/2025 10:30

@Contraryjane I've just bought cheesy footballs in Tesco this morning!

SellYourBooks · 08/12/2025 10:32

I liked those chocolate liqueurs that were bottle shaped. The liquid would kind of crystallise near the top. Mmmmm! Also those lovely shiny wrappers on the strawberry creams in the tin…

Does anyone remember getting Toffos in their selection box stocking thing? Lovely fruity toffees. That whole stocking, actually. It had a Marathon, Mars (?), Toffos, Opal Fruits… am I remembering correctly?
