I've seen these threads before and thought how on earth did you not know! How big must your house be to have a secret room.
Our house is not massive, 4 bed, normal size not really old or anything.
But there's a super creepy room. Hidden at the back of the loft, It's got carpet, wall paper and even spot lights! And a director's chair... just sitting in the middle of it! It's weird.

I once looked round a house where the loft was only accessible via a steep fold down ladder. When we got up, we saw a room just like the one in your picture coming off the side, with a webcam built into the wall and the same chair. Our only guess was voyeurism/swinging or homemade pornography?!

It’s called The Dream House by T M Logan. Had the same thought as soon as I read the OP. I can remember who the serial killer was but don’t want to spoil it for anyone!

Thank you. 99p on the Kobo right now so I’ve bought that!

DeeKitch · 07/12/2025 10:22

This is the sort of thing I dream of! Wow!!!!

One of my recurrent dreams is finding a secret room in a new place - attic, extension, cellar ...

Me too.

I thought it was about s simple longing for a bigger house: Oh hey, look, we’ve got this enormous gorgeous room too. That’s how my dreams are.

In my dreams of this nature I immediately start planning which clutter can go there, so I agree - this is my mind in practical housekeeping mode.

Mine too! I find fabulous bathrooms usually.

Me too. Houses that I know well, suddenly have doors, corridors and rooms that I’ve never seen before.

Acalmintent · 07/12/2025 10:26

Given there is no door and it’s just at the back of the attic
i am still baffled how your husband has been up to the attic lots of times and never noticed

freakingscared · 07/12/2025 10:32

Here is what I would do , get AI to grind that background online , it will probably be porn related , the spot lights mean it won’t be to old . My biggest question would be what sort of porn .
But as someone who gets “ feelings “ from photos I can tell you it made me unsettled so I would want to find out . What do you know about the previous owners ? Check for convictions , neighbours might have info

rainbowstardrops · 07/12/2025 10:32

Ooh! Do you know the previous owners? Could you ask them @Ohwhatswrong?

Me too. Either I dream about finding a new floor in our house (who has it is a three bed semi is a bit silly) or we’ve bought a house and discover it is much bigger than we realised - ridiculously huge in fact. But neither type of dream is particularly pleasant - I don’t want to go up to the new floor, something about it scares me, and in the huge new house, there is always a room that, although it is beautiful and often overlooking the sea, gives me a bad feeling. Aspects of my personality I don’t want to confront?

Obimumkinobi · 07/12/2025 10:33

Yeah, I'd have loved a secret room like that when DC were small.

Sitting down uninterupted with a good book for 5 minutes, having a little nap or drinking a full cup of hot tea (that's what the socket is for). Is there any plumbing up there, OP because an uninterrupted poo would have truly made it my own little paradise?

Radiator981 · 07/12/2025 10:34

It has spotlights it can’t be that old

Outside9 · 07/12/2025 10:35

YABU if its on the floor plan

Mysticmaud · 07/12/2025 10:35

Ask on the paranormal threads.

ThatWildMintSloth · 07/12/2025 10:36

This is creepy.. I'm so intrigued, I need to know more👀

LotzofLurve · 07/12/2025 10:37

Some comments here are totally bonkers.

Creepy?

No, it's just a space that someone used for some peace and quiet, they weren't the best at decorating or finishing decor off neatly, or maybe the started a project and didn't complete it.

Still cannot understand why @Ohwhatswrong didn't have a full survey that included the loft, which would have found this.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/12/2025 10:38

So no door - just an enclosed space then

yes spotlights means not that old

I would def measure width of floor below and see if it’s actually in your side of house

It's a man thing.

The 'look' but don't really see past the end of their nose.

TwilightAb · 07/12/2025 10:45

I have frequent dreams of finding a secret room in my house.

Bumcake · 07/12/2025 10:51

Ooh, I don’t like that. It’s like the sacrificial yellow hut in Midsomar.

FestiveFruitloop · 07/12/2025 10:55

Wow, that's cool! As a child I used to dream about finding a secret room (in our 1960s bungalow, err OK then. 😂)

I get that it feels creepy to you though. Do you think putting your own 'stamp' on it (change of decor, get some of your belongings in there) might take care of that?

ABeerInTheSunshineMakesMeHappy · 07/12/2025 10:56

LlynTegid · 07/12/2025 09:02

How was this not found out during the survey or other information before you bought the house?

It’s just part of the loft that had a half level wall in front though. Noting that would have needed to come up separately. It’s not actually another room.

I was going to say that are you sure you aren’t in next doors house?

We could gain access to our neighbours via the loft before we sorted it. Our houses are Victorian though.

Jasmin71 · 07/12/2025 11:01

Could it have been a priest hole. How old is the house?

Oftenaddled · 07/12/2025 11:08

People put things like folding chairs in attic spaces because they are light and easy to get up there.

Even if the previous owners did something creepy in it, porn etc, that's not going to have the slightest effect on the OP.

Why should it? If it has only a half wall, it wouldn't be on floor plans and mentioned on survey because it's not a separate room. It's just a recess really. Probably left over wallpaper covering a rough boarding job in someone's cosy little den - child or adult.
