To say that most people in the UK want illegal immigration to stop

1000 replies

Sleepysleepycoffeecoffee · 06/12/2025 10:12

I recently commented on a Facebook post to say the majority of British people are against illegal immigration. I was asked by several other users what survey I based that opinion on. I responded with the question ‘do you think most people want illegal immigration to continue then? Because if not, then surely they want it to stop?’ I didn’t receive any responses to that.
Without getting into any political arguments or name calling and giving no ifs, buts or reasons for your view, please vote as follows.

YABU - I want illegal immigration to continue.
YANBU - I don’t want illegal immigration to continue.

Is Labour not polling well? I am shocked you haven't mentioned this before!

I’m shocked it prompted you to reply in a post.

It was a good way to move people on to ROI. People left voluntarily. Even better, voluntary movement means no cost to the taxpayer.

Fine it’s what you and others wanted. But I think Labour will struggle due to Starmer’s decision and it could be part of their defeat at the next GE.

I still wanted some form of deterrence. At least the Labour party are now being stricter with their rule changes.

Dmsandfloatydress · 07/12/2025 17:49

Um, unfortunately this isn't true. Some have the right to work but still live in hotels once they claim asylum but the vast majority work illegally in within their ethnic communities. They cannot afford to wait to pay back smugglers or to send money home. A great deal work in restaurants for half minimum wage, sell drugs, deliver food. The single men hotels are pretty empty during the day time, even with three meals laid on.

Sure, whatever; farmers don’t “feed us”.

A complicated globalised industry with deep supply chains does, into which farmers deliver raw materials.

Unless you’re putting whole sugar beets into your cake mix ?

I buy as much of our family’s food direct from the farm as I can. Saves packaging and I get beautiful quality fresh food. You should try it.

Yes and a lot of them do have health problems

somehow I’m sure they will manage to bring in other elderly relatives in as well who will be a drain.

They have to checked for TB because there’s been an increase in cases & it’s coming from migrants coming from high risk countries. And yes it is illegal immigrants bringing it in. A quick google search will confirm

Whywhywhyyyy · 07/12/2025 18:30

OmNomShiva · 07/12/2025 15:32

No you didn’t. Please read my longer post above. They create raw materials.

Your assumption that farmers “feed us” is like saying oilworkers heat us and drive us around.

Lol I dont understand how people can try to intellectualise everything

I am cooking a roast right now.

A potato is not a raw material it is quite simply a potato.

And of course oil workers heat us. And no the driving is not an equal analogy. That would be like farmers cook our dinner.

I will never get back the minutes of confusion it took to process this comment in my brain 🫠

I would love to, the farms here mainly grow sugar beet and rapeseeds.

From the supermarket I can also buy washing detergent, toilet paper, limes, avocados, etc etc, and I just do not have time to be buying little bits here and there.

MyTrivia · 07/12/2025 18:45

People who support Reform want ‘forrrrinerrrs’ out of the UK, regardless of whether they are here legally or otherwise.

That is why we left the EU and are now all poorer as a result. Although almost nobody will admit how thick it was to vote leave and that there are still Forrrrrinerrrs coming here, now just not Polish ones.

Thick people don’t learn from their mistakes.

A potato is a raw material too. Look at the thousands of potato derived products available, and those indirectly using starches extracted from potatoes.

In Switzerland they used to check Brits for TB. It makes sense, and isn’t something to judge migrants for, if you’re trying to paint them as dirty.

I'm not going to read a thread full of veiled racist comments, and I hope someone has already said it - they are not illegal.

I eat potatoes. Mashed some today and ate them. I thank British farmers for this

UK exports still have been rising overall and there's still an upward trend on UK exports.

So you’re saying we’re doing really well despite having a few asylum seekers here ?

Cool. Where’s the problem ?

I mean you talk about EU nationals leaving because of the racism, yet it’s quite well known that some (particularly) Eastern Europeans aren’t particularly welcoming to ethnicity minorities and racism is rife within that community.

Err what?? So a Pole here, in the UK, experiences racism, so thinks "F this, going home...." he/she then wont be a victim of racism.

Its not really a difficult thing to understand surely?

Aside, the Polish couple i met in Newport, who become friends, were victims of vile abuse, so bad they stopped using public transport and they returned home, they had been here over 10 years.

No you are just chatting nonsense. Just because you can make glass from sand doesn’t mean that sand isn’t sand.

Wallywobbles · 07/12/2025 19:13

I don’t think the majority of the uk wants any kind of immigration. I don’t live in the UK but the vitriolic racist shite I hear every time I come over blows my mind.

poetryandwine · 07/12/2025 19:14

Papyrophile · 07/12/2025 17:42

On the other hand, we could pay farmers a sensible price to produce the food we all need to eat. I do try to do this, by buying direct and by using my local butcher rather than a supermarket.

Like you, @OmNomShiva and others, I prefer this system of shopping.

But not everyone can afford it, a big problem at present. Also we import about 40% of our food so this is not fully scalable

Alexandra2001 · 07/12/2025 19:14

@Samrutha UK exports by volume have very much decreased since Brexit, thats according to Parliamentary committees and the LSE, plus a few others.

Key Trends:

  • Goods Exports: Fell sharply post-Brexit, struggling to recover to 2019 levels, with total goods exports to the EU down significantly by 2024 compared to 2019, according to the House of Commons Library and LSE research.
  • Services Exports: Also hit by new barriers like licensing and residency rules, with a significant decline in EU markets, notes the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC).
  • Sectoral Impacts:
  • Food & Drink: Volumes down substantially (e.g., 34% lower by 2024 compared to 2019), say the Food and Drink Federation (FDF).
  • Aerospace: Saw a complex impact, with initial pandemic-related drops followed by temporary spikes above pre-Brexit highs in 2023, linked to specific large orders like engines for Air India, as per the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).
  • SMEs: Smaller businesses have been particularly affected by increased red tape and market access issues, leading some to scale back European operations, notes Enterprise Nation.

The services sector represents 80% of UK output, but LSE research indicates a 16% drop in services exports to key EU markets affected by Brexit trade barriers.

You can do those farm box orders.

Your posts are a bit muddled though. On one hand you say we should get food from farms but the other you don’t like farmers and it’s not food it’s all silver beet or whatever.

It’s an odd mix of things. Overall though keeping food security higher is better than the opposite.
