To say that most people in the UK want illegal immigration to stop

1000 replies

Sleepysleepycoffeecoffee · 06/12/2025 10:12

I recently commented on a Facebook post to say the majority of British people are against illegal immigration. I was asked by several other users what survey I based that opinion on. I responded with the question ‘do you think most people want illegal immigration to continue then? Because if not, then surely they want it to stop?’ I didn’t receive any responses to that.
Without getting into any political arguments or name calling and giving no ifs, buts or reasons for your view, please vote as follows.

YABU - I want illegal immigration to continue.
YANBU - I don’t want illegal immigration to continue.

No, I haven't minimised those tragedies.

You want to put all male asylum seekers in prison.

I'd rather they not be here and be in their home country.

Farage never played a part in the negotiations. As a sovereign nation we have ever right to control our borders.

But he drove public opinion

How does this follow from acknowledging that some of us just got lucky by being born in rich countries? And what do you know about my ethnicity?

Because it’s such a tired cliche and I’m sick of hearing and reading about this supposed ‘privilege’. There’s no one more filled with angst than a rich white person. If it’s all so difficult to come to terms with then free yourself from the disgusting privilege and go elsewhere.

Brexit ended the Dublin agreement. So no legal requirement to claim asylum in the first safe country. Conservatives decimated the processing capacity for those seeking asylum. So we firstly got rid of our ability to weed out chancers. And then we destroyed the mechanisms to investigate and expel those coming for the wrong reasons. The UK had, all on its own, created this perfect storm of there being no ‘legal’ route into the UK to claim asylum. Unsurprisingly that doesn’t stop the stream of people wishing to come here. It’s just played into the hands of criminals willing to exploit the situation. Arguably.perhaps if the West stopped fucking things up in other countries, and we focused on the fair distribution of resources, we might find fewer desperate to flee war, persecution and famine.

Edited

There is no legal requirement to claim asylum in the first safe country. That first line isn’t correct.

To be killed then lovely no empathy whatsoever.

I suppose the level of sexual harassment you are likely to receive depends heavily on age and appearance. The videos online of girls being followed and harassed by migrants show it is young women and teenage girls who are suffering. Ask them if they’d feel safe rather than middle aged (like myself) and older women who are usually the ones stood counter protesting against the people who don’t want migrant hotels in their towns

I am probably too old to be sexually harassed in the way you are suggesting.

However my daughter is probably in the right age group. She comes home right by a hotel housing people who are here seeking a better life. I dont fear for her safety and nor does she.

What I worry about for her is the casual racism that seems to be acceptable nowadays.

We are white British, irish heritage by the way.

I thank my lucky stars everyday we live in London.

I am sure they want the same. Nobody is risking their life on a dangerous journey to safety for fun. Nobody becomes a refugee out of choice.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 06/12/2025 21:53

Oh stop. We’re just at risk from men full stop and are currently importing boat loads of them. I wonder if we collected data on ratios of men to women currently if the usual 52% to 48% gender split would now be skewed.

If we take the premise that men are a big scary risk ... Why import men from the third world?

You want to put all male asylum seekers in prison.

Why do you want them all to be able to wander and associate freely even though we know that among their number are rapists murderers, terrorists and convicted criminals? What’s wrong with detaining unknown men who enter our country until we establish the fact that they are not very bad people who aim to kill us?

We seem to be going round in circles here. Do you want any other criminals to be able to wander around freely (for avoidance of doubt I’ll repeat Not All Asylum Seekers but some are convicted terrorists/rapists/murderers, we just don’t know which)? Are you one of these prison abolitionists? I can’t fathom your thinking. I can only assume it comes from a place of extreme privilege or naivety.

hididdlyho · 06/12/2025 22:12

'Illegal' immigration is the key term here. Plenty will also be in favour of 'the rich' not 'illegally' opting out of paying their fair share of taxes.

Out of genuine interest, if you are white British, why does casual racism make you 'worried for your daughter'? Like how, in what way?

There is nothing ‘supposed’ about the privilege of being born in a Western democracy. As you’re the one throwing ‘supposed’ around, perhaps you’re the one who needs a taste of how women in Afghanistan, Sudan, etc live

Tens of thousands of voluntary returns by ‘asylum seekers’ for purposes of holiday, family weddings, business etc says otherwise.

We can probably find a way to get them there. I think it's very limited what countries have banned commercial flights (just Ukraine and Sudan). But I think even Sudan has some flights to there.

They can't refuse to take their own people, and if they can refuse to take them, why can't we refuse to take them in the first place?

Yes wouldn’t that be good for a change

Women can barely get here. The number will plummet given the new rules.

Of course people should pay their full share of taxes. How are these concepts related?

Because the elderly are a) hoarding all the housing, and b) burning through most of our tax revenue on health and social care.

Aging demographics is the real problem, but as the UK is a gerontocracy, we’re not allowed to say it.

So we’re told to blame immigrants instead, like gullible little walking lobotomies.

I just had to scroll back to refind this comment that’s been allowed to stand. This is blatant ageism isn’t it? The elderly are to blame because they are hoarding all the housing’. The temerity to be living in the family home and be aging. Surely if we’re going after the elderly for hoarding housing we need to be going after those pesky single people too? If it’s one rule for one, it’s one rule for all. Anyone with spare rooms should be forced to leave their houses. Yes?

Lord only knows. Because no one can get around the juggernaut of the human rights industry in this country? There is a HUGE industry in stopping the government from being able to deport anyone. I’ll be amazed if Farage manages it.

I don’t want to bring my daughter up in a society that is xenophobic.

I want my daughter to experience different cultures, go travelling, have friends with different backgrounds.

My daughter might end up as a refugee herself one day. Who knows.

The values for my daughter are not to fear people who are different from her. To treat people with kindness. Do unto others etc.

People do bad things - regardless of nationality or immigration status. That includes indigenous white men.
