To say that most people in the UK want illegal immigration to stop

1000 replies

Sleepysleepycoffeecoffee · 06/12/2025 10:12

I recently commented on a Facebook post to say the majority of British people are against illegal immigration. I was asked by several other users what survey I based that opinion on. I responded with the question ‘do you think most people want illegal immigration to continue then? Because if not, then surely they want it to stop?’ I didn’t receive any responses to that.
Without getting into any political arguments or name calling and giving no ifs, buts or reasons for your view, please vote as follows.

YABU - I want illegal immigration to continue.
YANBU - I don’t want illegal immigration to continue.

We can probably find a way to get them there. I think it's very limited what countries have banned commercial flights (just Ukraine and Sudan). But I think even Sudan has some flights to there.

They can't refuse to take their own people, and if they can refuse to take them, why can't we refuse to take them in the first place?

What if they have no papers?

People claiming asylum when they have passed through at least one other safe country to get here (in some cases having asylum claims rejected in other countries - got to question why). People overstaying visas and playing the visa system, eg coming on a student visa with no intention of studying and then disappearing underground.

They don't have to apply for asylum in the first country they come to

They don't have to but it's sensible to isn't it? Otherwise it's asylum shopping?

You seriously think eg Turkey should take ALL asylum seekers from Syria? They already take a huge amount as it is but you genuinely think that if a country happens to be adjacent to one where there is a war then they should be solely responsible for taking all refugees. I bet you’d change your tune if there was a war in RoI or the Netherlands or France. And how did you feel about Ukrainian refugees coming to the UK? Should they all have gone to Poland? Or was it okay cos they were white?

I believe what they do in America is hold them in detention till they ascertain their country of origin. And then they deport.

I personally want the hate to stop. It's disgusting how hateful this country has become towards anyone who is "other" be that brown or disabled.

This government are to blame for this.

TheSmallAssassin · 06/12/2025 10:15

I don't think it's as easy as that. I would like us to take our fair share of refugees and have some safe, legal routes to asylum in place again.

How are you defining illegal immigration? Anywhere from 45 - 70% of people who arrive irregularly are granted asylum.

Edited

They are not refugees though are they, they was when they got to France but France isn’t at war, so them then coming onto us just makes them illegal migrants

So many people are undocumented how on earth is anyone able to prove where anyone has come from?

rachelhere · 06/12/2025 20:29

Well I'm sure if detained, people would fess up eventually, start speaking a recognisable language. And then you know where they are from, don't you? No-one is saying they hate them all and it's nothing to do with the disabled, no idea why they are being put in the same sentence there.

They don’t have to apply for asylum in the first safe country they arrive in. They aren’t illegal unless their application for the right to remain is rejected and they refuse to leave.

In the USA, ICE at least has ways.

They may have friends and family in the uk and speak English so obviously the uk would be where they would want to apply to.

They can refuse to allow planes to land and it would be a breach of international law if their application hadn’t been processed and either accepted or rejected.

That was fine when the country had a healthy economy and housing was cheap. We can't afford it anymore. We don't have the money, public services or housing stock.

I think in the UK we have something similar. We have Immigration Detention as well.

The can't hold all the asylum seekers, so where are you detaining them all?

This is what we’re paying the government to sort out. There are too many people coming here. The government needs to work out how to stop them and how to get rid of those we don’t want here.

Removing the terrorists, rapists and murderers that have already entered would be a start.

rachelhere · 06/12/2025 20:51

Yes, other countries seem to manage it. None of these things are beyond the realms of human capability, thats just what our government would like us to think.

OmNomShiva · 06/12/2025 20:54

Because the elderly are a) hoarding all the housing, and b) burning through most of our tax revenue on health and social care.

Aging demographics is the real problem, but as the UK is a gerontocracy, we’re not allowed to say it.

So we’re told to blame immigrants instead, like gullible little walking lobotomies.

Catladywithoutacat · 06/12/2025 20:55

Tbh people say illegal immigration but I think they mean immigration in general and this is the issue especially as so many Brits live abroad in Dubai/spain ext

Samrutha · 06/12/2025 20:20

A country is not obliged to receive someone without papers. The US and the EU have bigger sticks than the UK with which to incentivise cooperation.

This is also for @rachelhere

rachelhere · 06/12/2025 20:57

Hoarding it? Don't they already live in it? Still you don't think the problem is too many people? Just put 'the elderly' into a big mincer like in Logans Run and give all their houses to migrants eh?

Ah right.

Would you mind a detention camp in your town?

poetryandwine · 06/12/2025 20:59

PS @Samrutha , @rachelhere : Becoming known as a country that jails failed asylum seekers without papers might start to act as a disincentive when the word got out. But haven’t you noticed that our prisons are already overcrowded?
