Do you believe the pyramids or The sphinx were built by the ancient Egyptians?
I’m just watching Egypt’s Secret code and Bradley Walsh isn’t accepting this theory, my husband believes it was Aliens.
I don’t know what I think really, please discuss, Share your thoughts.

Everybody knows that it was Douglas Adams mice. The ones of 42 fame.

I get it is light-hearted but it still makes no sense, there is no proof it is aliens but he beleives there is somewhere out there with creatures with enough brains to arrive on earth and decide to buid pyramids and we dont know where they are now?

People believe the earth is flat doesn't make it flat

But why not??

We truly don't know so why can't we have speculation and open minds?

Right so I spent around an hour this afternoon reading about all things Egyptian. I agree with your responses and am married to a lunatic.
He isn’t a total bastard though and has a lot of lovely traits so I’ll just ignore this alien nonsense.

Humour him if you want to, fuck the neysayrs here..... There are so many things out there to question.... It's just a bit of light hearted fun as you said.

Fuck everyone else; you and hubby do you and hubby

I am also the proud owner of an alien conspiracy believing man, who is otherwise thoroughly nice, so I humour him.
What I don’t understand about the persistent belief that ancient humans couldn’t possibly have engineered anything big or complicated and therefore it must have been aliens - but by that logic how did the aliens learn to do it either? Humans can do lots of crazy clever stuff, because we are a clever resourceful species. Because in modern times we use machines to achieve stuff we assume that ancient people couldn’t have achieved stuff without machines. But in order to get to a point of creating machines we had to go through the stage of doing stuff without them to help us understand what machines we needed to create to enable us to do stuff quicker/easier etc.
The aliens would have had to pass through the non-machine stage too. What makes them somehow magically superior that they can manage stuff and we can’t? It’s illogical. I’m probs not expressing it well though.

You expressed that as well as I have ever heard it :-)

I think it's getting quite close to the Fermi Paradox.

For aliens to have gone through all the industrial revolution, tech and physics etc, and to be zooming around the galaxy, there should be evidence.

But we do know how the pyramids were built. The archaeological record provides overwhelming evidence.

There's plenty of stuff we don't actually know about that we can e njoy speculating about.

too late. 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1 about 25 years ago got their first - not to mention the film in the 90s

Jeeez, was it as much as 10 seasons. I didn’t think it was running for that long. I’m more shocked and intrigued by that to be honest😂

Brefugee · 07/12/2025 14:23

yeah - it went about 4 seasons past it's sell-by date and by then they had killed all the Goa'uld and the new villans were ... urgh. I am not over it.

Yes, logical. The universe should statistically be teeming with life so we’re poss either the first or AI type developments cause our demise. Although what are the odds other life carbon based in our image? On your Fermi comment, where are the probes?

Jesus Christ you make it sound like I’m married to Peter Sutcliffe.

How do you know you're not? Maybe both were abducted by aliens and switched. Ask him and watch his reaction closely.

I think with the Fermi thing, I lean towards the why bother aspect.

Say there is a life form a couple of million years more advanced than up, totally possible and probably likely. Might be 2 million light years away, and any day we might pick up their first radio wave broadcasts.

But if this life form had mastered faster than light travel, or even star trek level tech, why would they even bother jumping into their hyper ship to come here ? What would they learn from us ?

Although I would expect us to find some rubbish they throw out their window in passing. Bottles of spaceman pee and suchlike.

I think Earth is unusually resourced/unusual from what we can tell/do know but any interest assumes ‘they’re’ wired like us.

Some think we’re in a sort of nested simulation & ‘space travel’ really involves hacking the ‘code’ like a giant game of Grand Theft Auto. We’re therefore missing point about ‘space travel’.

I think the ‘Wow signal’ now debunked but that could have been ‘another civilisation’ they thought.

I think for aliens to be capable of faster than light space travel, they would have to have the same evolutionary traits as us. Or it should be, for us to be looking for them via SETI etc, we need to have the same evolutionary traits as them.

I would not say the wow signal has been debunked. It's more a case of us being closer to understanding what it is.

Fascinating ‘Wow’ update, thank you. A chance for ‘citizen science’ involvement too.

It's all very well talking about "aliens" as if we know what life is.

We don't.

I just looked it up when I saw it mentioned. It was somewhere in my dim memory that there was an update.

I used to do the SETI screen saver thing, back in the days of windows 98. But I think it was stopped a while ago ?

As a anecdote, I visited the Arecibo observatory back in the late 90's when I was doing a job in Puerto Rico. And ever since then I have had a general interest in SETI, and the search in general. So yup, the whole citizen scientist thing is awesome.

Just imagine if a Pyramid conspiracist took part, and found the signal.

" Please change the batteries in our pyramid stargate".

I just googled “Wow signal’” and found this: The Wow! signal was
a powerful, narrowband radio transmission detected in 1977 by the Big Ear radio telescope in Ohio, showing characteristics of a potential extraterrestrial signal, prompting an astronomer to write "Wow!" on the printout…
and

  • Detection: On August 15, 1977, astronomer Jerry Ehman noticed the signal while reviewing computer data from the Big Ear telescope.

Check the date people. Elvis died the next day. It’s clear that (insert conspiracy of theory of choice, here)
