Do people not realise that for those who welcome them into the family they are part of the family. And if you have a dog and say it's just a dog, I'm not sure you should have one.

Where are the parents?

Who would you save in a similar situation - your very elderly grandmother, or a stranger's baby?

A stranger's baby, and my elderly grandmother would be demanding I saved the stranger's baby too!

My dog saved my life. I live with MH illness, and she has been the reason I have accepted treatment when in hospital so I can get back home to her.

That's lovely but realistically your dog could not perform open heart surgery.

No, but dogs can save lives. Just not in obvious ways. The vast vast majority of human beings can not perform open heart surgery either.

What if she was begging you to save her?

I'd still save the baby.

I'd save a baby over pretty much anyone save my own children.

Peachii · 06/12/2025 17:48

My dog is just a dog, and an annoying one at that. Not very loyal or loving either.

Still, Hes treated well and eats like a king haha

According to OP, he should be returned, because i don’t think he’s sole sacred being. Im sure he’ll be thrilled to be returned to living outdoors im the freezing cold again.

It’s a ridiculous sentiment, OP.

What next? “If your hamster is just a hamster to you, then you shouldn’t own one” either?

Onleemoi · 06/12/2025 17:49

Sorry your dog is shit. Most aren’t.

I’d choose my beloved animal over a human yes.

When my wonderful dog was alive, I’d have chosen you in this slightly strange scenario. I’d choose every single person here who would rather my children die than their dogs. But I guess if we’re all content with our outlooks there’s no point in arguing! No one is actually listening and the thread has just descended into chaos!

LiftAndCoast · 06/12/2025 16:26

I hope the people arguing that animals are equal to humans never eat meat. By their logic it would be morally equivalent to cannibalism.

And their dogs and cats are all vegan too - otherwise you are basically just discriminating against less cute animal species.

🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️I don't know🤣Not the same. They are two people...not an animal.

If we are doing stupid hypothetical questions, then it is the same.

In any case, the parents should be rescuing their own kid.

But it's not the same saying a dog is equal to a child. Right well parent have died in the said fire so your still rescuing a dog over the child?no one with a sane mind can think that's the answer!

PollyBell · 05/12/2025 22:31

A dog is not a human yes a dog can be part of a family but they are not and never will be a baby or in anyway the same as a human, I worry for people who cant tell the difference

And no they don't have to be taken everywhere

I do not think you understand dog owners that well.

I might want treat my dog as though she is a person, but I do not belive that she is a person.

I have never come accross anyone who does not know that humans and dogs are different.

The fur baby nonsense is always projection by non-dog people. I don't know any dog people that think their dog is human or treat it as such. It's only ever the dog-haters who spout that condescending rubbish.

There are plenty of people on this thread who have said they view their dog as equal to humans.

Lifeneedsaresetagain · 05/12/2025 22:50

I think they are very much on par with the humans in my family, it's how I was raised, it's how we raised our daughter. They're not a commodity or accessory.

You have a daughter, so if you were given a sophies choice type of scenario, which would you choose? Your dog or your daughter? If you even have to give that a split second of thought I feel sorry for your daughter! If you would rightly choose your daughter immediately without question then you must realise that yes, in fact, it's 'just a dog'.

Equal to humans as far as being an important family member, yes. But that does not equate to believing they actually are human. That is purely an accusation levelled at us by dog haters.

I wont know there is a kid there. Why would I? If there is a fire, you leave. My dog would be with me.

As a human, I am also incapable of performing open heart surgery. I have my own place though.

No, they have said they view them as equal to humans. Hence the loons who say they would choose the life of their dog over the life of a human baby. I suggest you read the thread as it's there in black and white.

I have. I said early on that the dog haters come out with insults, and you are just proving my point. "Loons", and all the arm chair psychiatry going on, diagnosing people with psychopathy for choosing their own pet that they have an emotional attachment to, over a child who should be with their parents anyway. And the name calling over a hypothetical situation is silly. Even MNHQ have even commented abut the insults on here.
And this happens every time with dog thread. It is tiresome. I honestly think some people could do with getting a dog. They can help lower your blood pressure.
