To think it is not at all sad that the Women's Institute is now only for actual women?

“Incredibly sadly, we will have to restrict our membership on the basis of biological sex from April next year,” Green said. “But the message we really want to get across is that it remains our firm belief that transgender women are women, and that doesn’t change.”

Tellingly - they still think women can have a penis.

Women’s Institute will no longer accept trans women as members from April

when is @S1ngS1ng going to copy and paste the hate of which they speak? Oh that’s right, they can’t, because it’s all in their head.

Theworldisbig · 07/12/2025 18:15

I felt exactly the same when I got an email from Girl guides!
'From today, 2 December, it is with a heavy heart that we are announcing trans girls and young women will no longer be able to join Girlguiding. This is a decision we would have preferred not to make, and we know that this may be upsetting for members of our community.'

Explain to me how males are marginalized please

And do you not see the irony here?

the fact that you first try and belittle people by calling them men. But just in case you’re asking in good faith, and not just punching down like most of the people on here, I’ll provide some statistics below.

According to a major survey by Stonewall, among trans people in Britain: 12% had been physically attacked by a colleague or customer in the last year; 51% hide their identity at work for fear of discrimination; and 25% had experienced homelessness at some point. Stonewall
A more recent survey by the trans-led group TransActual found deeper systemic issues: 40% of respondents had experienced transphobia while seeking housing; 63% had experienced transphobia when seeking employment (rising to 73% for trans people who are BPOC — Black or People of Colour); and those accessing general healthcare often faced prejudice (70% reported being impacted by transphobia, and 57% said they avoided going to the doctor even when unwell).

LGBT in Britain - Trans Report (2018)

The LGBT in Britain - Trans Report highlights the profound levels of discrimination and hate crime faced by trans people in Britain today.

"hide their identity at work"???
How?

Chersfrozenface · 07/12/2025 18:27

the fact that you first try and belittle people by calling them men.

Transwomen are men. It's the only way to be a transwoman - be a natal, biological male and claim to be a woman.

And those figures about "transphobia" include people telling the truth - that transwomen are in fact men.

Throckmorton · 07/12/2025 18:28

I'm not belittling anyone by calling them male - I'm stating biological fact

Hoppinggreen · 07/12/2025 18:30

In order to be TW they do have to be men, you cannot be born a TW
You have to be born a man and then say you are a TW, only way it can happen

Justthethingsthatyoudointhisgarden · 07/12/2025 18:31

What a surprise, another Trans hate thread on Mumsnet.

Throckmorton · 07/12/2025 18:33

According to stonewall I fall under at least one of their definitions of trans (I assure you I am just a bog-standard gender non conforming woman), so frankly I don't trust their statistics one bit.

That stonewall survey you cite is from 2017 and has a sample size of 871 (Though also over five thousand respondents, which begs the question of what happened to the other 4,200 plus responses …. Maybe they didn’t quite fit the agenda of the survey)

Oh good. Another trans bashing thread! We hadn’t had one in at least a few hours.

It’s nothing to do with trans people and everything to do with males in female spaces.

why don’t you think women can say no to men?

But does that mean you think trans people have a easy ride of it in the uk?

What has the one got to do with the other?
Easy or hard ride, ether way single-sex spaces are there for a reason and people should not go into a single sex space if they are not that sex. That applies to all people, trans or otherwise.

I do. I actually believe that if people wanted to create some TERF friendly women’s institute they should be allowed to.

the sadness in the article is that they had the choice taken from them and exclude members they wished to include.

But they could have changed their charter and articles and become mixed sex if they’d wanted to. Changed their name to something without woman in it and accepted males. Why didn’t they do that?

The WI was created to be single sex. The members had that taken away from them by people who wanted to admit transwomen. Do you not think it should have been the tranwomen who should have set up their own space, not taken someone else's?

You don’t get to speak for all females. If you want to go make a Both sexes space you can do but you have to allow everyone. You cannot just have women and men in dresses.

WIs can't allow one kind of men to be members but not another kind of men. That is illegal discrimination.

I think you mean set up a woman friendly Women’s Institute?

Oh wait, that was already set up BY women exclusively FOR women, decades ago.

Surprising enough it was even called The Women’s Institute.
